Neat spot nearby for Mediterranean / Egyptian-style food. Similar enough to Greek, if that's what you're after, but slightly different if you've had enough of these styles of food to tell the difference. Not bad, just different. Guys inside seem nice enough, food was flavorful and fresh. My lamb kabobs and lamb "chunks" were good quality meat (even if the chunks were a tad overcooked). The tzatziki was cool and refreshing, the rice was plentiful, and the tabbouleh was palate cleansing between each bite. Not bad for a local, non-chain joint! read more

We wanted a mix so we had beef shawerma sandwich, hummus & bread, grape leaves and a chicken kabob. The beef shawerma was mildly seasoned but it was good. This place is located in a strip mall and doesn't look like much, but wow, don't be deceived by its exterior. At Koftaky grill, you will get some succulent grilled meats and well-seasoned vegetables in a delicious wrap. I was intrigued by this place because I'd never had Egyptian food before. The food tastes very similar to Mediterranean foods with hummus, and grilled meats, but with new and intriguing spices. I enjoyed the grilled lamb and vegetables. I hate giving a local business a bad review but I didn't go to one of the chains purposely because I wanted some authentic Mediterranean. Maybe we were there on a bad day, in the middle of the week but there were so many issues with our plate- the salad was undressed and I had one cucumber slice in it, the chicken was over and dry, the pita was hard, and we asked for hummus side and what we got was something watery and almost had a hint of peanut? I ate all the rice because that was the only good thing. I will always give it another shot because like I said it might have been an off day but I hope it's better next time. read more

I had read in several reviews that the hawawasi was really good, so I decided to branch out from my norm and give it a shot. It wasn't as exciting as I had anticipated, but still more flavorful than it appears to the eye, and spicy (in flavor, not heat). I was confused why it was served with ketchup, but after dipping some pieces, it makes sense now. It's good either way, but I like it better with ketchup. The falafel was delicious. Lots of flavor and fried perfectly. The falafel side was served with pita and some sauce. But even with the sauce it seemed all a bit too dry? Anyway, I would eat a whole platter of that falafel by itself! Very good. I think the price is a little steep for this side though. The food item I was most surprised about? The grape leaves. They were incredibly flavorful and not swimming in oil as I often find them served by others. Just absolutely amazing - the unexpected star of the show! I definitely recommend giving this grill a try. All of our food seemed prepared when ordered with fresh ingredients, and I'd love to try some other items on their menu. read more

I am in Nashville this week and wanted to find something good to eat close to my Airbnb. The traffic is horrific here and I really didn't want to have to drive all over the place. I checked an app and found several possibilities but decided to try the Koftaky Grill Mediterranean and Egyptian restaurant. It is located in Oakwood Commons shopping center in Hermitage, TN. The restaurant is clean and bright and inviting. There were only a couple of people in there besides me but it was the middle of the afternoon so who's eating lunch at that hour right? Me. I ordered the shrimp plate because I really like shrimp. The photos looked very good, too. I'm happy when restaurants show photos on their menus. Sometimes I just don't know what things are. I ordered dinner and asked for Coke Zero but they don't have it. They carry Diet Coke and I don't like Diet Coke. I opted for a bottle of water. I usually drink water with my meals anyway because, I don't know, I just like it. It didn't take long for my shrimp plate to come up and he called me over to the counter. He asked if I wanted cucumber or ranch dressing and since I don't really like ranch so much I opted for the cucumber . I don't remember having it before but I liked it. I got my plate, grabbed my bottle of water from the cooler and went to sit down to enjoy it. I was pleasantly surprised when I open the container. There was a great green salad and some kind of bread. I'm sure it has a name but I don't know what it is. There were plenty of good size shrimp and they were cooked perfectly. I used to cook at a seafood restaurant so I know what to expect. The shrimp were on a bed of rice that was filled with cooked onions and peppers. It was all very, very delicious and I'm really glad I went there for lunch. When I finished my meal and was getting ready to go the gentleman at the counter asked me how I enjoyed my food. I told him I loved it and I would definitely be back. I really appreciate when an owner takes an interest in his customers that way. It tells me that he cares about what he's serving and wants everyone to be satisfied. I was very pleased with the quality of the food, the amount of food and the service. I usually stay in the Hermitage area when I come to Nashville so I will definitely be back to this place for lunch. It's one of my new favorites in Nashville. I found this place while visiting my in-laws on my way to the grocery store. I'm so happy I stopped in! The excellent service started the moment I walked in the door, I was greeted with a warm welcome and because it was my first time eating here, I asked about the menu and they took the time to answer questions and offer suggestions. I chose the beef shawarma and it was delicious! They even suggested a combination of sauces that really complemented the dish. Horrible! Popped in to grab a falafel sandwich & I was VERY disappointed. Falafel was way overcooked & exterior was crunchy...like if you took rice grains & deep fried them, that crunchy. Flavor was odd, not like it was bad just weird seasoning not typical in falafel. Very over-cooked, I think they might've been made days prior & re-cooked. I'm vegan so when adding toppings, I asked for a spoonful of hummus (extra protein) & they looked at me like I asked for their first born child. They conversed in native language back & forth then one of them finally nods before they add it. They were very friendly & I my wait was only about 10 minutes. Place was very clean! Used to really like this place for the standard mix plate. Last time tho, I went in the restaurant & placed a to go order. Paid for my food & had a sit down in one of the booth tables. As I waited, I heard the distinct sounds of at least one mouse scurrying & squeaking about the place, either in the walls, or around the parameters of the floor, out of sight, but definitely unmistakable squeaky sounds of mice. They've raised their prices too, and there was no prices posted on anything. Not as fresh as they used to be. Really too high for what you get, on top of the eh-ehm, squeaky atmosphere. The owner is super super nice, over the top and was willing to answer our questions. They are also taking COVID seriously and have the tables very spread out and the interior was very clean. Got their chicken kebab, it was very good and had a nice flavor to it and a side of hummus and their hummus is very good despite it looking dark and chunky. The biggest downside I will say is they did not have actual garlic sauce and gave me ranch instead, which at least to me is not even similar, not sure if this is COVID thing as take out is now way more popular than ever and they come heat sealed. Also the salad was not dressed, which I used the ranch dressing for, but usually it's some type of vinegar based dressing. Next time I'll ask for their tahini sauce or taziki sauce, as other reviews have said good things about it. read more

The floor plan is very spacious and the restaurant is brightly lit. The food was very fresh and vibrant. The service was quick and the vibes were energetic. On the other hand the bathroom looked slight neglected and the seats were not very clean. However this is a fantastic family owned restaurant and I would recommend others eat here. read more

We just moved near to Koftaky and picked up takeout one night recently when we needed some yummy food before unpacking boxes for hours - everything was delicious! We shared the hummus and hawawshi (sort of dough stuffed with ground meat and then baked; the Egyptian hamburger? A hamburger stuffed pita? However you think of it, it's delicious!), which were both great. The hummus was so different from what I'm used to - most hummus I've eaten is creamy or has a whipped texture and heavy on the tahini; Koftaky's is more like crushed chickpeas - it has a lot of texture and a lot of garlic. It tasted great. The hawashi was also delicious. This dish is a crowd pleaser - if you're eating with anyone that's not very familiar with foods from the Middle East, order a hawawshi. We also got a couple of salads (mine with lamb kofta, his with beef shawarma). Both meats were good and served on top of a basic Greek-ish salad. We shared a slice of Egyptian cake, which was our least favorite thing we ordered - just basic, nothing wrong with it - just a slice of sweet cake. Overall, we really enjoyed what we tried from Koftaky. We'll be back for sure now that we're so close! read more

Let me be the first to admit that upon walking in the door of the Koftaky Grill my expectations did not come close to the quality of service and how delicious the food would be. The floors weren't finished , the tables seemed placed far apart in an effort to fill the huge space, and there were no customers, which now seems unbelievable considering the quality of service and food we received. But make no mistake, the food here is incredible and the service very friendly and helpful. I have admittedly not eaten much Egyptian food so my family and I trusted the suggestions of a very helpful young man named Kamal. He provided insightful advice on the food including a few of his favorites. He also took the time to explain the differences in a Greek Gyro and a middle eastern Shawarma. Both use a vertical roaster, and lamb is quite prevalent in their diets. The way the food is flavored and spices involved are what makes the difference. Usually I hesitate to give five stars, knowing that there is always something I can find if I look hard enough. As it pertains to Koftaky Grill it was not hard at all to give them five stars. Not only did they exceed my expectations, they greatly impressed my entire family with their friendly service and the delicious food we were served. The only complaint we had was that they advertised "Buy 3 Sandwiches, Get One Free" on a big poster on the front of the restaurant. We did not get the 4th sandwich free. And while this would usually cost them a star, we thought that given the service and food we received we were happy to pay for the fourth sandwich. "Your Dad is going to be studying Egyptian food now" said my wife, and I will certainly be at least looking further into more food from that region. Ok I came he back in 2019 and I didnt do the review justice. It was as good as some expensive places but this place is not. And how could I forget to tell people to get the friggin Lamb Chops. They were amazing. Yes it is expensive for this place like 18 bucks but you will pay at least 30 in a restaurant and chances are they wont be as good. Have I had better yeah if I payed 2 or 3 times as much. But for the price it for sure gets a 5 star. Oh did I say try the lamb chops lol read more

Stopped in after an extremely long day of work and then packing and moving. I've had an usually high number of charges from different places today from moving expenses. My card was flagged for fraud and continuously declined after many attempts. I apologized for the inconvenience and left. Beginning to cry as I walked to my car as today had already been a lot and then that added on top. I sat in my car beginning to leave and the sweetest gentleman (I'm assuming he is the owner) came outside with the food and gave it to me. Hugged me and told me not to cry. Literally one of the most genuine, kind hearted things I've ever experienced. This was the first time I've ever been in this restaurant.
