The lighting nor the signage inside was very good, which made the first time going here a bit confusing/overwhelming. They have fresh sliced and freshly grounded meats (pork and beef). They do have some chicken products, deli meats and frozen fish. It looked like there is a case for fresh fish, but there wasn't any fish in the case when I was there (which was weird since it was the week before Christmas). The staff was very friendly and almost too fast. I haven't tried the ground beef and pork I purchased just yet. But if it's good, I may consider going out there every now and then.

The tiramisu was solid, light and airy and very pretty plating. Service was a little apathetic, but the food was good enough to offset. Reasonable prices too. It would be such a shame if this legendary local treasure ever closed up for good. There is a restaurant, craft shop, and grocery/deli. I visited the latter two on my recent trip to central PA. You will still find the same types of products as before, but quantity and selection are reduced due to the size of the space. In particular, the meat case and bulk goods are a small proportion of their former glories. The good news is that the bakery still sells chocolate whoopie pies and apple moon pies--the only kinds that there should be. Weirdo versions such as peanut butter whoopie pies and peach moon pies are offered as well, but why bother when you can get the real thing. The craft store is a bit smaller than previously, but still stocks a great range of, um, crafts. Things like tea towels and trivets and table runners, Christmas tree ornaments, candle holders, various porch decorations, and all sorts of other knick-knacks. There are even some locally produced goods such as aromatic soy candles by Brick Arch and gorgeous-smelling soaps from Shade Mountain Naturals. It's important to buy local, especially in small towns. We happened to be there on "Black Friday" (such as it is in Big Valley), and the craft shop was sampling cookies and dips from the deli. And by "sampling" I mean that there were two large trays put out in just the time that I was there. Mmm, generous and delicious. That said...we've seen the ups and downs. The live music is always great, fantastic, really, with small but nationally noted acts. The beer is outstanding (and I write about drinks for a living), though you will NOT find anything fruited, or sour, or trendy; OTOH, the standards are finely-honed perfection. The service is... eccentric, but loving. The food has had some rough patches, but the current chef is great. The menu has been revamped, with solid regular items, and inventive specials.
