2027 can't come soon enough. Cranberry Wegmans opens. On a business trip, put in a bakery order several days ahead of time. Being able to pick up my (large) bakery order and not leaving someone disappointed at home makes me happy. Had my list of must haves. I meandered through all the departments. Wasn't on a time schedule. I spent 2 hours in the store. Found beautiful baby lamb chops. Filets were $6/lb cheaper than my grocery store. Bought beautiful endive. Had to bring home the red wine peppered salami. Coming home, opening the cooler, and handing out foodie presents is like Christmas morning. The oohs and aahs were heard at multiple houses. The staff were very helpful finding my treasures. Wegmans trips make traveling for business worth it. read more

I have heard my family talk about Wegman's for years but this was the first time I was in town and went for myself. I found it to be quite a good store, with everything you could want: my weird health-food desires like coconut flour and buckwheat groats (that I usually have to visit specialty stores for); pharmacy supplies; lots of pre-made food; diverse international offerings; plenty of organic and pre-cut produce; flowers, etc. Despite it being my first time, I was able to navigate it without too much difficulty. When they were out of green onions, a friendly worker was able to refill the bin quickly for me (and direct me to the spacious, clean bathrooms). They have tons of checkout lines, only a couple were open with humans; and they have lots of self-checkout too. I mean, it's just a grocery store, but it's a pretty good one! read more

Wagmans make some excellent desserts but their donuts are horrible. They are always dried up and cheaply made. They should be less than half their price and made daily. All regular supermarkets sell their donuts daily or throw them out. Wagmans don't even offer cream filled donuts which most people like. read more

How this Wegmans location has sunken... Back before they dedicated a significant chunk of store to alcohol, they had a pretty nice tea nook and natural section. It used to be somewhat "fun" to shop here, and the international corner had more variety. Parts of the latter have been gutted and somethings dispersed back into the regular aisles. Everytime you walk by the alcohol section, whatever dutiful lady theu have standing guard of the section, has to eyeball me like surely that's surely where I must be heading. Should not feel the need to mention, but I could not care less about drinking, and even if I did, I wouldn't come here for that. When I was younger and working grocery for peanuts at a mediocre grocery chain that wasn't known for such above average employee benefits and environments than precious Wegmans, our crews had good attitudes while still being human. Somehow, the employees at Wegmans have a general blend of apathy, misery, and barely tolerance. I remember one instance I had to go in there soon after a family tragedy, two days without sleep,stress, through the roof and a chronic medical condition dragging me down worse than usual, and I still did my best to be pleasant and polite to a cashier who was literally talking to me like she hated my guts, like I had just wronged her entire family for years, while moving my items like it took every fiber of her being to not slam each one down in the bag. No idea what that was about, as the people in front of me got no such treatment. It's not as if i was wearing my own feelings in my sleeve. I would've been let go on the spot for displaying a fraction of the attitude while I was making a fraction of their wage, this young woman was flat out being abusive. I've never even seen a teenager act out in such a way to a complete stranger. It was so bizarre. We used to have such pleasant interactions with the employees here, and we'd even sometimes plan our hour away trips to thr area around coming to this store. Now it's tacked when it's absolutely neccesary, and we see it as a chore to even run in for a couple things, a mild dread usually reserved for Walmart. The level of the self importance vibe of the people who still shop here who act like they're in some high end metropolis in a hurry and everyone else is just cattle in their way is so thick. The thing is, it doesn't even make sense. Wegmans (at least this location) has very few things that make it exclusive anymore. It is reduced to a status symbol store in so many ways, without the goods and services to back it up. Because they still have people playing chef for Safeway deli / mall caliber food? We drive 1 1/2 hours to shop here because the seafood and fruit are so fresh and delicious. The quality is extremely high. My husband has developed a love of sushi after trying it here. The variety of food is such a difference from what we can get at home. Can't recommend it enough. read more

I love Wegmans!! Any time my wife and I are in State College, we usually stop here to pick up a few things. Does it have pricey, quality food? Yes, it does! Does it have lots of store brand items that are better quality and typically cheaper than its competitors, such as Giant, et al? Yes, it does! Does the average person understand how much they could save at Wegmans if they shop there regularly? No, they don't! Ok, lesson over, folks. Seriously, Wegmans is awesome! I don't typically buy the pricey gourmet cheeses and meats, unless it's for a special reason. To me, Wegmans is quality and they employ decent, customer-friendly employees. At this location we buy smaller sized cans of store brand vegetables that our local Wegmans in central PA only sells in the larger family size. Oh well. If you've never shopped at Wegmans, you are missing out on a real treat. read more

If I had to chose one word to describe Wegmans, it would be 'expensive'. I come from the south and just recently moved to Wegmans-land so I wasn't sure what to expect. It turns out it's very similar to a Whole Foods or Fresh Market- they have a lot of organic and obscure products. They all seem to be of high quality, so I guess you do get what you pay for. With our current budget, we will likely only go to Wegmans rarely and for very specific items. They have quite a few food options for those with dietary restrictions so I really appreciate that. Their cheeses are beautiful (I love cheese), and they have a nice bakery and butcher area. There's also a little cafe in the building but I haven't tried it. The food looks delicious I'm just dreading the check if I decide to eat there. One thing that stood out to me is their bulk loose leaf tea. I'm a tea-lover and constantly looking for delicious and environmentally friendly tea options (no bags or eco-friendly bags, no excessive packaging). I haven't tried the teas yet but it looks like you pay by the ounce and fill up a paper bag from one of their larger containers. I'm really looking forward to trying those one of these days. The staff are friendly and the bathrooms are clean. Unfortunately, the clientele can be rude and the store is often busy so watch out for grumpy rich Pennsylvanians when browsing the aisles. 1st time in Wegmans. I know right. This was another stressed last minute errand for graduation as family came hours earlier to the apartment as opposed to meeting at the ceremony place. So of course I had to feed them. I was in the middle of getting dressed and doing my hair but no time for being embarrassed I ran out looking all kinds of crazy. I've never had anything from here but I've heard good things. Everyone in EVERY single department from bakery to the prepared foods to the wine to customer service was super nice and went out of their way to help me. Not sure if they could sense or see how frazzled I was and felt bad for me or if this is just normal for them. Either way I'm thankful. I got 2 rotisserie chickens. They were cheap and delicious. Can never go wrong with that. Prepated meatballs. Flavorful and reasonably priced. A pound of prepacked macaroni salad ( not bad not great). They were all out of the potato salad. A fruit platter. Very fresh and averaged priced. This was a wonderful visit (hope no one snapped a pic of me lol) and I'm jelly of those that live close to these establishments. Makes Stop n Shop and those chains feel like childs play. However, I must say that it was night to day going from one end of the store to the other. A disconnect. Perhaps partially due to the lighting. The gourmet area/prepared foods just feels like you're in a completely different store. Ijs. With that said it would be awesome to live closer to one. The new price increases are out of control!!! I paid $1.68 for two tiny, little chicken wings. I paid almost 4 dollars for one slice of pizza. There's no reason for the prices to be increasing all over and no one's pay is going up - so this was enlightening. I probably won't shop Wegmans much anymore. This review is specifically geared toward the coffee shop: it is average coffee at best, often staffed by rude people, and the prices are inconsistent. My go-to order of a small double-shot cappuccino costs a different amount almost every time. Today it cost over $5! This positions it at a higher cost than Elixr, Rothrock, Bonfatto's AND Webster's, while suffering in comparison taste-wise. The only benefit is that there is no cost to park (free at Rothrock too) and plenty of seating. Long and short - get your coffee elsewhere. read more

The most meh Wegman's I've been to, including the Wilkes-Barre store (see my review). Cons: * Store isn't well laid out & isn't the most organized or clean market. I wandered around for a long time to find things. In most of the Wegman's I've visited, the layout is the same... deli/hot foods/coffee bar to the right... here, it's on the left. Why is it a big deal? Cuz even as a tall person, I couldn't see signs or over tall isles & wandered around longer than necessary looking for lunch foods. * Produce wasn't plentiful or very fresh the day I visited... same as the W-B store. That's disappointing. * Their hot/salad bars aren't filled with very appetizing food... some looks like it's been there far too long (1 piece of dried out, stray, breaded fish), some smells like frozen TV dinner type food (Asian offerings), sushi has far too much rice & is way too expensive (you need some Japanese sushi chefs, imho). Pros: * Nothing, really. I got a bit of sandwich meat (which I never eat), cuz nothing else was appealing. I'm only in the area overnight, but wouldn't bother returning. 2* out of 5. The employees are very FRIENDLY, HELPFUL and when you're tired and need to do grocery shopping at the end of the day it makes shopping even easier. The variety of products and wide selection of NEW FOODS TO TRY will BLOW YOUR MIND!!!! This store is well organized you don't spend extra time looking for stuff. Plenty of parking available. I love the fresh bakery muffins made here, but I am disappointed at the fact that I can no longer buy them due to the new pistachio muffins. I have a severe allergy to pistachios, and since the pistachios muffins are made with the same equipment as the others, it is a health risk for me to eat any of the muffins. I would hope to see more inclusive bakery display, that maybe has a section for nut free items. read more

I loved Wegmans, especially the Wegmans bakery. However, they recently came out with new pistachio muffins and I was very excited to try them! BIG mistake. These muffins are probably the worst thing I've ever tasted. I spit it out as soon as I took my first bite and threw up a minute later. Now even thinking of these awful muffins makes me gag and I can barely go in the store it's so bad. I've been having to shop at Giant because knowing the other bakery equipment is shared with these muffins is very upsetting n and heavily grosses me out. read more

I was not expecting to find a Wegmans in State College, but I was glad to be proven wrong. Everything was exactly as I expected in terms of quality, prices, and service. I was not able to check out the dining area at this particular one, though I'm sure it's just as good as elsewhere. One thing I was surprised to see was a large amount of dairy - a variety of milk and chocolate milk, for example, on display in refrigerated "bins" in the front of the store. That's not a preferred way to refrigerate something like dairy, and I'd always opt for getting it from the refrigerated cases in the back. This was the first Wegmans at which I got to try their self-checkout as well. I found it easier to use than those of other grocery and department stores. I'll probably never get a Wegman's near where I live, so it's always nice to visit them when I travel. read more

Wegmans used to be a great supermarket; now it's mostly a poor beer & wine store The State College Wegmans was (past tense) an excellent supermarket & grocery store. But they recently decided to devote at least 20% of its surface to wine & beet. As a result, the State College Wegmans does not carry anymore a long list of items it used to carry until recently. Moreover, the stuff they still sell has far less shelf space, so they are constantly running out of essential supplies. We have been exceptional customers of Wegmans for 17 years, spending over $1,000 a month at their store. But since they started selling beer & wine, every trip to our local Wegmans triggers a subsequent stop at Walmart or Giant to try to find what Wegmans does not sell anymore or they just ran out of. It's aggravating and disappointing, and ultimately quite dumb: the wine & beer section has hardly any customers as to justify this wrong-headed more. read more

For a quick lunch the market cafe section of this supermarket is great. Salad bar, hot food bar, soups, pizza,... The other day, I enjoyed a nice prepped sandwich ($6.50), Italian meats with spring mix, roasted peppers, dressing... on baguette. It was deliciousness washed down with a bottle of Honest Tea. No sweets that day but I am a fan of their bakery, the fruit tart is delicious. yummmm! Also a fan of the supermarket in general. They have a nice fruit and vegetable selection. Great grocery store that has just about everything. However, they don't carry everything that you would come to expect. They've shifted over the years to carrying more store brand items and less name brand items. Because of that, some things they don't carry anymore (i.e. lemon-pepper marinade). Their produce is very good and I do love their bread. The deli team is very quick compared to any other grocery store in the area. The meat department can be hit or miss. It seems the butchers are only friendly to the people they know and are very short with everyone else. The prepared food section is quite pricey for what you get. However, the made to order food is reasonably priced and good for a quick meal. I haven't tried the buffet bar style food yet as I can't bring myself to try something from those bars with so many people touching and walking by the food. It also looks dried out every time I walk by it. The bakery has gone downhill in the last few years offering fewer items and the taste isn't the same. The cake frosting just isn't good anymore since they changed it. I also don't care for their coffee as it lacks flavor to me, but others seem to enjoy it as they offer many different types (I only drink regular). Overall, I go there about once a week to at least get my produce and bulk meat. Many of their other items are much cheaper elsewhere. read more

Dearest Wegmans, I know you hail from the land of Rochester, NY but the east coast folks who know and love you on the west coast could use your amazingness. For reals. I have been a shopper at Wegmans ever since I was a poor little freshman college student at Gannon University in Erie. I'm pretty sure it took an entire month's worth of work study pay to afford my bougie groceries but I didn't care. My bougie blood runs deep when it comes to groceries. Fast forward to present times... anytime I'm back home I've gotta get me some Wegmans. I don't care if I don't even eat/drink it. Imma buy it and share it! You want some craft beer? Okay, I got you! And now they sell wine? In the grocery store?!? When did State College get so modern with the times?!?!? Last time I was there (couple weeks ago) they had a wine tasting... I about died! Was I teleported back west? It was so nice to see a wine rep in a grocery store in PA! I was super surprised at the transformation of the hot and cold bars! Wow! I'm not really a fan of buffet types of settings... but everything is right there if you are! Besides their amazing bakery... the sushi... and cheese... and fish... and antipasto... everything is so affordable. It really, really is. Wegmans, I really and truly love you. I've always liked going grocery shopping, but when I visit you, it's almost therapeutic. Also I almost always go after 10pm, so thank god you're open 24 hours. Wegmans is what my aunt calls "adventure shopping" - they offer your typical produce and selection, but also some more exotic and locally sourced goods (as well as things prepped fresh that day, like cut and prepared veggies, fresh squeezed juice, etc). Also, they offer family sizes for a lot of their stuff (veggies, cheese, meat, etc) so it surprisingly makes buying better quality stuff not that much more expensive (I've actually found that buying meat here tends to be cheaper overall than shopping at Weiss or Giants, but YMMV). Also Wegman's brand tends to be affordable and really great quality, no matter what it is. While you're there, might as well check out the ample food section (esp if you're there during normal work hours). Snag a fresh loaf of bread or a baguette for me - you won't regret it. Bonus: there's an app with weekly coupons if you're into that (usually for the prepared produce or marinated meats), and also their reusable shopping bags are well worth the small investment (you get a free one if you sign up for a rewards card). I love Wegmans and always stop if I find one. Naturally I was delighted to see one in State College. I couldn't get the buffet line as it was after 9:00 P.M. and closing for the night. Still I got some sesame chicken and rice and also purchased some egg rolls. Even though I had to eat it cold the chicken and rice were excellent and the egg roll was great as well (even the next day without being heated) However the store lacked a seating area with TVs. I've been to several Wegmans and never saw one without a seating area. So my car became my dinner table. It's OK because the pre prepared meals are good enough to make up for it. read more

I think Wegman's does so well because there is no comparable alternativde to Wegman's. It really can't compare to whole foods, but there is no whole foods around. In general, I find Wegman's to be annoying. People here are so in love with it, I see it as nothing more than a means to an end. I need fresh brussel sprouts when they are in season, a non-standard ingredient or two on a daily basis, so I shop at Wegman's. The employees in the little chef hats are annoying-- especially the big guy that gives the samples of the meats. He's obnoxious. One of the other things I'd like to mention is the difference in treatment I get from other customers and employees when I come in here alone vs. with my boyfriend. When I come in here in sweat clothes to grab a few things in the middle of the day, I am looked at like I don't belong. NOTEABLY. ONE MORE THAN ONE OCCASION. I honest to god am looked at, stared at, really, like I can't afford to be here. Its the strangest thing. I'm sorry that people at Wegman's aren't reason enough for me to change from my comfy clothes. But when I come in with my boyfriend, who is a well known in the community, people stop and ask me if they can assist me in a variety of ways. Strange. Moving to State College was quite a change. In a world where there's a lack of diverse food, and supermarkets, I was very surprised with what is Wegmans. Being that there are no Whole Foods nor Trader Joes around, Wegmans is the closest thing to it. It's spot on pretty clean, and their selection is pretty incredible for State College's standards. Great food court area, beer selection, and organic foods. If ethnic foods is your cup of tea, then they also have a section for that. Granted it's pretty small, but you can find a thing or two such as Indian curry. Being that I incredibly miss my beloved Whole Foods, I felt at home at Wegmans. Sure, its more expensive than Giant, Walmart, and Weis, but you get what you pay for? Do you like an incredible selection of quality food? Do you like a variety of microbrewery beers? I moved to the West Coast, to one of the foodie captials of the country (wine country) and the food stores simply suck when compared to Wegmans. Here is what you all can still enjoy: 1) selection: both organic, high end stuff and conventional. excellent international food section. 2) fresh: what i miss the most is the seafood section. I threw a Sushi Party not long ago and wanted to share some info: The dried seaweed (nori) and bamboo rolling mats are the same price here at Wegman's in the Sushi section as it is at Far Corners. AND, you can only get Inari (deep fried, marinated tofu for stuffing with sushi rice) here; Far Corners does not supply this vegetarian-must have. Finally, Wegman's fish counter will accept orders for sushi-grade tuna that is delivered on Thursdays. read more

This Whole Foods-esque grocery store has a good selection of vegan items in the freezer section, including a few brands of tofu, various types of grain milks, and an assortment of vegan ice creams and yogurts. They also have a decent ethnic food section, with lots of imports from India, Vietnam, China and Korea. Oh, Wegman's. I was so utterly split over you. On one hand, as far as State College goes you have the largest section of organic goodies and "rare" items (think, truffles and exotic peanuts) but on the other hand, the quality of your overpriced hot foods is really only mediocre. The market section offered a fairly nice arrangement of products including organic and fair trade varieties as well as its own in-house brand (which was remarkably cheap) with lots of fantastic options: everything from chips to meats, sauces and veggies. I found that some of these were a hit or miss with prices varying from expensive to cheaper than Walmart. The international section was alright with a decent assortment of overpriced Asian goods (go to the Asian market up Atherton!). The bakery was a nice touch but unfortunately, they're definitely no Whole Foods only offering a few pastries and breads. Still though, good enough. However, it's the hot foods where I really think they fall short. For the most part. their offerings are most likely the best you can get in State College in terms of market-made a la carte.. but that doesn't really say much. Their Chinese takeout buffet is ridiculously, unbelievably overpriced. 10.99 for a half of what you'd get at any of the other local swigs is so not a good deal, never mind the chicken is usually tough and the eggrolls, dry as a bone. The pizza is "alright" tasting more like something from the freezer case than a takeout. I do admit however that their sandwiches were A-OK and pretty fresh. The customer service also ranges from friendly to flat. There were several occasions where I had issues with individuals but plenty of others when I was treated to a friendly smile. Overall I have serious mixed feelings. Centre County doesn't offer much in the way of large markets (something I'm used to back in New England or New York) so Wegmans is pretty much one of a few lowly selections. My favourite market has got to be the Giant Eagle in Altoona, imho, they have a better, cheaper selection of specialty goods but for those unable to make the 45 minute drive, Wegmans is the best in town. read more

The review are pretty fair. As a late reviewer, I'd like to add something to the hits and misses. First, the miss. Kathleen K. notes some bizzare experience with the loyalty card. I've been affronted twice where they have asked to see a driver's license to sell me a turkey, or, without license, for $20 more. Each time I left. They seem to want to know you in a creepy way. Second, the hits. They have great cheese, and the widest selection of meat and international food. The have broad selections in broad isles, and they get that it can be interesting to try new things. They also far too often allow me to put out of date food from the cooler section onto the floor, which I appreciate. So, a mixed bag. I go when I have to, and then both love and hate it. I also now always pay cash because they are creepy, and ask for a store card, and if they don't have it, then I leave the frozen stuff, buy what I absolutely have to, and go to Giant, which is much more open about their store card and far less creepy. Update: they are definitely more creepy now. they don't just look at your driver's license if you want to buy beer, they copy it. The have a phone app to help track your purchases, I mean, help you track your purchases, no, I mean as they say, save money! The staff remain friendly, but it does not make up for the high(er) prices for higher quality, and the raw bits (TM, from prarie home companion) approach, where they want to know if you qualify to shop there! read more

I always thought of grocery shopping as a chore. That is until I ran into Wegmans. This grocery store has redefined my shopping experience. With so many unique items, sometimes I even feel lost on what I should buy. The produce is decent but during the winter months they can be a little bruised but still better than what I can get out here. The beer selection is amazing. I was worried when I moved to SC that I would not have the same beer selection as I did in San Francisco (priorities) but I was proven wrong. Having a Wegmans in town is one of the greatest things about State College. Seriously. Any time I think of leaving, looking for work elsewhere, etc., I always come back to the thought of...but could I live without Wegmans? It seems like a terrible thing to do. Strengths: Definitely the prepared foods, but really it has great quality and selection in most food categories around the store. It also probably has the best (beer) bottle shop in town, in terms of both selection and price. Weaknesses: Not many, but sometimes the deli counter isn't particularly well-run. They never seem to use the ticketing system, for instance, and they sometimes let crowds build up by not always being super attentive/aware when people approach the counter. I also don't love some of the new aisles post summer 2014 redesign - they kind of look like a warehouse. But those complaints are relatively small compared to everything I love about Wegmans, which is...well...almost everything. I even like their phone app, which has lots of great recipes and points you to the exact products you need in-store. read more

I really like Wegmans because they cut my fruit and veggies. I think is expensive, though; I wish they low the prices to be more adjusted to the market. Sometimes I have very pleasant people attending me. I love the flowers there. I use to buy orchids there and they last long. That tells you a lot about the way they take care of orchids. read more

LOVE WEGMANS! We regularly drive 45 minutes from Podunk, PA just to spend an hour in Wegmans. Fresh bagels, build-your-own-cannoli kits, and a great selection of meats and cheeses! YUM!! I would definitely recommend this grocery store! This is the only supermarket I have been to that has a huge selection of prepared meals, whether it is sushi or grilled chicken. They also have prepared meals that you just throw into the oven. Wegmans has a designated section for gluten free and organic food products. Wegmans, however is a bit pricey (mostly their prepared food products). It is definitely a place that you should check out! read more
