Delicious and well priced, im sad this place is not close to me at all. I've enjoyed the lentils, the shawarma, kabob plate, and kobideh. I really loved the rice and salad that come with the plate- such good rice and not greasy/buttery like some places. And the shawarma- not crazy garlicky but the soft thin pita is the best part! Next time I'm going to have to ask for the chili red sauce at the table to go :)! read more

I stopped in quickly to get a chicken shawarma wrap, which they referred to as a "sandwich", but it's more like a fried chimichanga. There were no surprises; just good, decent middle-eastern fare. The interior of the place desperately needs a facelift. The service was very prompt. read more

Very delicious kabobs at this restaurant. It is a small business with a lot of delicious foods here. I loved their rice because it was flavorful and very good with their kabobs. Their filet kabobs were my favorite along with their chicken kabobs. All the meat pieces that we ordered for the birthday party were tender and flavorful with every bite. They are really good with seasonings their meat because it was right on the spot with taste and smell. Service was excellent because they provided all the foods that we ordered ahead of time for the party. The staff were friendly and welcoming. But not a lot of parking space in front of the restaurant. But it was worth a visit if you are ever near in Van Nuys area. Highly recommend their kebabs! read more

The flavor of the beef kabob and hummus is solid, but the value for the price is disappointing. I was surprised to find only a quarter of a tomato and a tiny piece of pepper instead of the full roasted vegetables you get at almost any other Mediterranean or Middle Eastern spot. Additionally, the Syrian Salad was nearly $9 and arrived in an incredibly small container. While the food tastes okay, the portion sizes for the sides and garnishes feel like a rip-off. Hard to justify ordering again when other places in the area are much more generous. read more

Don't judge a book by its cover. From the outside, it does not look so inviting. When we walked in for a very late lunch, they were making the Kobee, I think. Our first time there and drawn in by the reviews. This is far from fancy. I had the best falafel I have ever had, crisp and not at all greasy. The salad was so delicious, it was the dressing that made it. We enjoyed our lunch, The portion was generous; we could have shared one plate. I ordered fried kobbe The food was authentic and delicious. The service: Was great. The owner and her family were very nice, attentive and friendly. The parking lot: Is very very limited, it is only for 4 cars maximum in front of the restaurant and when you backup you will find yourself in the main street. Good food in a little hole-in-the-wall with a lot of history! Not only is this highly-rated place very near the Van Nuys courthouse (jury duty, ugh!!!!), but a friend who recently had jury duty also recommended I check it out. As others have said, the parking is super limited in front of the place and, unless you can back in, you will be backing out onto busy Oxnard. I drove down Hazeltine and found free parking on the street (there was also quite a dirty shanty set up that made me a bit nervous being there by myself, but I made it out safely!). About 4 or 5 tables inside, very low-key, with a cooler for canned and bottled beverages. Ordered the Fried Koobe plate, which comes with salad, hummus, and a couple slices of pickled beets and traditional pickles. I also ordered one falafel on the side (which is one of my measuring sticks for a place). The Koobe was pretty good and surprisingly filling! The order comes with 4, but I was full after 2 (and the other stuff, of course). The falafel was moist and pretty delicious. With the 4% cash discount, my food was just under $20 (which seems to be the going rate with inflation these days). It definitely feels more like a takeout/delivery spot, but it was good for lunch in my break from listening to the lawyers argue with the judge, lol. If you're nearby, check it out! read more

Kobee Factory is a Syrian kitchen that specializes in kobee, or kibbeh, which are fried pockets of dough containing various fillings. They also have other Middle Eastern fare such as kebabs, falafel, and shawarma. Kobee Barbecue: Bulgur (cracked wheat) grains are formed into a ball and filled with ground beef, pine nuts, and spices. KF's kobee resembles a muffin top, very different from the typical overgrown almond shape found elsewhere. It's also "barbecued" in a grill for some nice grill marks, instead of deep fried. When you bite into the crispy smoky shell, the juicy herbs and spices immediately befriend your tastebuds. It comes with a cool and creamy yogurt cucumber salad with a great garlic and dill flavor. There's also smooth hummus topped with olive oil and red Aleppo pepper. The textures bounce from soft to crispy to crunchy and back, so dip the bits of kobee in everything. You also get tart flavor boosts from the pink pickled turnips and pepperoncini. Parking: There are a few spots on the southwest corner of Oxnard and Hazeltine. The restaurant had traditional syrian costumes displayed, along with, a picture of the owner with Jonathan Gold, and posted articles of being a top restaurant in LA. Service was quick and courteous. After browsing a few shops in the area, we found ourselves hungry. Kobee Factory & Syrian Kitchen popped up on Yelp, so we decided to give it a try. We had heard about this place via Jonathan Gold (ranked #67 on his last 101 best restaurants list in 2017), so expectations were high. Upon entry, we were kindly greeted and shown the menu, which had quite a few tempting options. I opted for the beef kabob, as I wasn't feeling too adventurous. Indoor dining is unfortunately still closed, so we took our orders to go and ate in our car. Overall, I thought the food all tasted great. The ingredients were fresh, and the beef was cooked well. There are 21 countries which border the Mediterranean Sea: Spain, France, Monaco, Italy, Malta, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco.  So the word Mediterranean is too broad of a term to describe one type of cuisine, let alone a culture, tradition, language. The food at Kobee is Middle Eastern, specifically Syrian which is located in the Eastern Mediterranean known to the ancients as the Levant. For us former Spanish students, we may remember "Levantar" which means to rise since the the sun is first seen to rise over the eastern Mediterranean.  More aptly, if one has to generalize, the food at Kobee is Middle Eastern Mediterranean. Since I was supporting my previously reviewed neighbourhood mom-pop establishments for take outs, Kobee Factory is the first new restaurant review since the Pandemic. Super Yelper Isobel L. was kind in delivering the Syrian feast. 1) Kobee's spelling is more familiar to me as Kibbeh which means "to form into a ball". The outside crust is made of mostly bulgar wheat, sautéed  onion, finely ground beef. The interior is filled w/ spiced beef of possIbly cinnamon and/or allspice. We ordered the grilled, golden brown Kobee w/ blackened, horizontal sear marks. The crust is not crispy, but firm. The filling seems similar to the crust w/ more finely ground beef & addition of creamy, buttery pinenuts. Carb lovers' delight, but for me, a bit heavy, starchy. There is a thick tahini w/ a toasty nuttiness, yogurt, thyme scented spread to add flavour to this relatively bland dish. 2) To add bright, green herbal, "diesel" scented refreshing gastrique in between bites of the Kobee, we ordered Taboulè made of fresh, verdant frilly textured parsley, onion, tomato, touch of lemon juice, olive oil, salt, pepper. Perfect foil to the heaviness of the Kobee. 3) Beef Shawarma: I'm used to seeing Shawarma as layers of thin, herbed meat slices piled together and shaped like a cylinder rotating & roasting  on a vertical spit. The drier meat may be lamb and/or beef. The Beef Shawarma at Kobee seems like chunks of fatty sirloin in onion & cinnamon scented bouillon slow braised until the bouillon becomes a thIckened brown sauce, and the meat is soft yet chewy w/ a distinctive fatty beefiness. This pot roast version of beef Shawarma is excellent for the discriminating carnivore. The accompanying rice is short grain, soft, more starchy, infused w/ a satisfying light broth Umami. Torshi/pickles of somewhat mushy cucumber and fibrous red beet provides refreshing relief to the fatty meatiness. 4) Khiyar bi Laban/Cucumber Yogurt, that we ordered, has high quality, higher cream content to give it dairy sweetness. Tiny, diced, crispy Persian cucumber adds not only snappy texture but an earthy melon scent. Another richer pairing compared to the Tabboulè. 5&6) Both main dishes had an absolutely fabulous Hummus tasting of naturally fresh, sweet chickpeas. Hint of acidic lemon juice, funky garlic. Huge addition of Tahine/white sesame paste created a rich, nutty, toastiness throughout the pasty Hummus.   Chopped green salad of crisp heart of what may be romaine, tomato, parsley, vinegar-olive oil marinated bell pepper. 7) M Saren/Musareen is lamb intestines stuffed w/ subtly spiced rice & finely ground beef. The stuffed intestIne seems slow boiled in what may be cinnamon-bayleaf broth so the smooth intestine is ultra soft. The rice mixture soaks in the broth so it too is soft & plush. The snake-like look may be disconcerting to some. There is a subtle, almost nondiscernable internal organ scent that vaguely resembles Menudo. I like eating Musareen cold. For some reason the spices meld and become more prominent vibrating on the palate like the finish of a fine wine.  This is the exciting animal version of Dolma/stuffed grape leaf. A spicy, dark fruit rich Cabernet Sauvignon should do this dish justice. 8) Kanafè pastry looks like a nest of Kadaïf/ sharp, crunchy wheat based angel hair topped w/  crushed pistacchio & pine nuts. Inside is a slice of Akawi cheese that tastes like cream cheese, Samneh/clarified butter. It is drizzled w/ a viscous sugar sauce. For me a drizzling of Amaretto di Saronno, Grand Marinier, or Saint Germain would be a great enhancer. 4 stars read more
