Was trying to figure out what to pick up for dinner and we had never been to Kobe so we decided to order it to-go. We couldn't find a menu for the Sylva location but for one for another location in the area and that seemed to work. I ordered the Jumbo Shrimp & Steak Hibachi with no broccoli and subbed rice for Soba Noodles. I was a little odd that they didn't ask how I wanted my steak cooked since that in normally with most hibachi restaurants. Once our food was picked up I will say it was a pretty big serving. My shrimp were bigger then the normal shrimp but not by much. But the shrimp and steak had good flavor and I was a fan of the mushrooms it came with. I will say the serving of the Soba Noodles was on the smaller side though. The carrots seemed like they were just boiled and chopped up. Most likely were not cooked on a flat top and have never little flavor. Thank god for Shrimp Sauce right. Prices were similar wo what you get from most hibachi restaurants but did think the quality holds up to others. They also didn't have any Soy Sauce to go which was also odd. Would maybe come back if I was really craving Hibachi but most likely would not be my first pick. read more

A group of friends and I visited Kobe Express while in Sylva. The prices on the menu are great! I ordered the egg rolls and the steak and mushroom hibachi with mushrooms and broccoli. When I first ordered the egg rolls, they came out frozen on the inside. So glad I didn't bite into it. The waitress was super friendly to get the egg rolls right and fried fresh ones for us. The portion sizes here are pretty large, and the food comes out fast. read more

Love you Kobe. Been eating there for years since I started college in 2017. Just one thing I'd like to see improve, maybe it was just the night I went, but I got the hibachi chicken and it was really overcooked. Super hard and kinda dry. Taste was great tho! I eat at Kobe's a couple times a month. The food is always good. I love the shrimp tempura roll and the California roll but sometimes skip the sushi and grab a plate of hibachi chicken. 9 times out of 10 the service is great there have been a few times I have visited that I haven't been sat a clean table or our drinks haven't been refilled other than that I enjoy eating at Kobe's. read more

Dog shit, dude. I asked for 4 rolls and 2 plates. I tried my best to be respectful as I know that was a lot as early as it was (11:15am). I even tipped 20% ($13.65) before picking up my food. While ordering I specifically requested a roll that does not come with avocado and no avocado in another that does normally have it. Upon receiving my order, both rolls contained avocado. My go to restaurant to fill my need for Japanese food. Waynesville is too far. So far the only thing I really order is the Teriyaki Chicken and experiment on the sushi. So far I've tried every sushi and can only recommend the Americanized California Roll and the Kobe Roll. It feels like that's the one roll they have down, it's also the fastest to come to your table. The iconic shrimp sauce/ white sauce is excellent despite having the mayo being a bit more overpowering in the balance of the taste. Soups are fine, but I suggest the clear broth over Miso. I can definitely tell how long veggies have been sitting or if they're coming from the old batch. Broccoli is often overlooked to where they have a chewy texture as if it's been boiling for hours. Carrots can be mushy if coming from an old batch that's about to be replaced. I must also acknowledge the big inconsistencies of portion size. This is both an advantage and disadvantage for the customers. Your portion sizes are correlated to the amount of customers. The less customers, the bigger the portions, and vice versa. As for atmosphere, it's acceptable, but the dark wooden panels paintwork is rather rushed so not flattering with the overall look. Love the sit anywhere system, but don't like how long it takes to get refills. My biggest gripe is the constant price increase. I go here so often that I notice the price increase. I remember paying exactly $12.01 for a Teriyaki Chicken and other stuff, but now it averages around $14+. I will definitely find other places to eat if the food entree alone goes up to $8.50 or $9.00. I'm already dumping $8.01 for Teriyaki Chicken and a cup of Water (as of 2017) I would also appreciate transparency with your customers and to your employees of the price increase. I asked and they don't know why. Overall, I like this place, but I only go because it's the closest to my school. Overall Kobe Express was pretty good. The fried chicken dumplings were very tasty. My husband and daughter had sushi. The portions were large and the fish quite fresh. He also enjoyed the crab salad. I had the teriyaki salmon and mixed vegetables. Not being a fan of fried rice, I changed it for "soba" noodles. The salmon was over cooked for my liking. The texture of the sushi rice wasn't quite right, and there was a funny taste to some of the tempura, like it had been burned. 40% of the rolls we got were decent- I would consider them average as far as sushi places go. I was desperate for sushi, so we came here. It was almost good. The only issue with the sushi is that they didn't de-vein the shrimp, and that struck me as kind of amateur hour. Aside from that, the crunch roll was quite good. The hibachi was uninspired. The carrots were cooked to the point of being utter mush, and the chicken was meh. The soba noodles were pretty good. I've been to many, MANY sushi restaurants. It's my favorite. But, when you advertise hibachi, make sure you don't drive the meat out, by over cooking, season accordingly and put just enough hibachi sauce! And, make sure it doesn't closely resemble teriyaki. I ordered the hibachi chicken, hubby ordered teriyaki. Of course, bought the unagi roll and dragon roll for later (both were great! Sauce, roll and all!) My hibachi chicken was dry, not seasoned and very, very minimal hibachi sauce. Hubby's teriyaki chicken was dry too, with a tad bit more sauce than I had (which was still very little). If the chicken wasn't dry and seasoned correctly, or at all in this case, I would have completely overlooked the lack of sauce. This place gets pretty busy but there wasn't much of a wait at all. The staff was friendly enough, customer service was so-so, but they were attentive even with as busy as it became. Price was definitely fair. The place was neat and clean, including the bathrooms. But when we went, the light in the women's bathroom was out. Overall, it was an ok experience but not something that would make me wanna go back soon. I love my sushi and that was the only good thing that came out of this. But I did have a question. What's with that condiment on every table? It tasted like mayo and something else, I couldn't quite make out. Definitely doesnt belong there. Completely out of character for the restaurant and it wasn't even good with that food type. I live in sylva and have ate at kobe several times. I have eaten at other hibachi restaurants and find kobe to be mediocre. The quality seems to be falling off the past couple of times I've ate there. Whatever you do don't order a salad(iceberg lettuce only) by far the worst I've ever ate. read more

We were passing through town and stopped in this restaurant after seeing the sign from the Walmart next door. The service was excellent. Very fast and affordable. I drank water with my meal and got out for under $7. My two sons were about the same price. The bottle of white sauce at the table was enough to bring me back next time I'm in the area.
