Best fast food Japanese restaurant anywhere near Asheville! Seriously, everything I have had here is fantastic! Better than most Japanese steakhouses I have been to, and half the price. This time I had the teriyaki chicken, the meat was perfectly tender and moist, not dried out like some, and broccoli was perfect cooked with just a little bit of crunch left. I should mention that i absolutely love rare stake, and this is the only fast food Japanese restaurant to ever get my order right! I normally have to pay $25 or more to get properly rare teriyaki steak, but here it is only $15, and I swear you get much more and it's better than most steakhouse. The service is excellent as well actually some of the best I have had in a long time. The staff are all very friendly and happy to accommodate requests when possible. And most importantly, for me, they are attentive and kept my drink full! A rare find indeed! The restaurant is small but very clean with a reasonable dining room. Plenty of tables for 2-6 people, but maybe check if you want to bring 10 or more. Over all it is a relaxing place with wonderful food, good prices, and great service! read more

Ordered for my first time today. Mostly Sushi and App's. They told me 15 mins and is was ready when I arrived (approx 20 mins.) The order was correct but I did ask for more Wasabi as they give very little with the Sushi, next time I will also ask for more Ginger as well. The Pot Stickers were usual pre-frozen and not made in house, nothing different but good. Anyway, the Sushi was wonderful, and the rice was perfectly cooked and just the right amount on the Sushi. The Egg rolls were a bit disappointing, small and dry. The Ginger sauce was different but good. Iceberg lettuce crisp and fresh. The fish in the Sushi was fresh and so tender. 5 stars for the Sushi! The food is excellent! Parking is a pain in peak hours. Takeout is usually easiest, but they use styrofoam. I don't think the service was bad here at all. They actually went out of their way for us. English is just their not their 1st language and I think that causes some issues. We got takeout and it was ready super fast! I thought the sweet carrots could have been just a little sweeter, but I like mine to be like candy, lol! My shrimp and scallops were cooked correctly, but seasoning was hit or miss. One piece would be perfect and the next had no flavor. The same goes for the mushrooms and broccoli. The fried rice is a little unforgivable. I make much better fried rice. It had almost no flavor and was extremely dry. For fast food Japanese it is serviceable which is unfortunate because the bones for an awesome restaurant are there. Just a few upgrades would put them in the 5 star range! read more

Kobe express is a cut above most of the fast Japanese restaurants I have been to. The service is always very prompt and the food is consistently good. They offer a variety of hibachi or teriyaki plates with your choice of meat which range from $7-9, and they also have an extensive sushi menu. It's just hard to beat a nice and hot hibachi plate for lunch for less than $10, its an outstanding value. She said that is was a rule if u don't pick up your food within a certain time we give it away. This rule has never been stated at anytime to me on any other orders nor this time either. Unassuming appearance but delicious food. We stopped in at random and were treated to a sparkling clean interior, fast and courteous service, and (most importantly) delicious food. I'm not sure if this review is just location specific, but I was fairly disappointed. We ordered the Volcano sushi roll and the flavor was good, but the presentation was lacking significantly - looking as if someone had vomited the topping onto it. With the hibachi steak dinner, it is served with canned carrots, mushrooms and your choice of rice or noodles. I was expecting zucchini, onions, or sautéed carrots. Food is pretty good but it seems like the staff struggle when it gets really busy. I think the saddest part is how this one man (I'm assuming he's the manager/owner) literally stands there and watches his staff and does nothing. Doesn't even try to help ring people up or clear off tables. I feel bad for everyone else in there busting their butts! read more

Food is good always but the waitress Judy is RUDE EVERY TIME we are in there. It's a shame that they have such a HORRIBLE waitress because it's a reflection on the whole business. We were told tonight that "the managers had cut her hours and that's why she was being that way." Umm-sorry!NOT the customers fault and perhaps if she was a half way decent waitress they wouldn't want to cut her hours! When a customer ask for food a certain way and she replies back that she understood and then it comes out wrong, don't get pissed off at the customer-get pissed off at your kitchen crew!
