Tempura Rainbow Roll
Ally F.

When I read that they had a Tempura Rainbow Roll on the menu, I had to see what this place is all about. My roll and iced green tea were both delicious. While the roll was on the extra ricey side, the fillings and toppings were fresh and hearty. I was happily filled up enough with just one roll. I arrived at the restaurant at 11 when they opened, and the waitress was very kind. She went out of her way to brew my iced green tea which I appreciated. I would recommend giving this delicious sushi spot a chance if you're craving sushi in Asheville.

Shrimp hibachi, chicken hibachi, Las Vegas deep fried roll, a house salad, and a shrimp Kung Pao dish.

This is a great addition to the Asheville area. Everything is super yummy and fresh, including the soups not pictured (each hibachi dish comes with a soup or salad to start). The rolls are substantial in size and delicious every time (the Las Vegas deep fried roll is my fave)! Quick and easy with accessible prices and you don't sacrifice quality. The ambiance is very simple but everything is clean and tidy. Even if you order to-go, everything is served appropriately and packaged nicely.

No backsies

Nope. This was a vile wretched waste of money. It's cheap and you get what you pay for. Left half of it on the plate. The calamari salad was tough salt. The sushi was very suspect, greenish tint ends. There was two people who were servicing the place and they kept arguing about who knows, as they were speaking another language.

Raman Soup. Combo number one.

I had high hopes for this location of Mr. Susi, after all the raves I read about the So. Aville location. They seemed to be having some sort of problem, for which they apologized but did not identify, which caused a delay of over 30 minutes for our food to be delivered. We ordered the combo #1 and the pork ramen. Both dishes were perfectly adequate, but uninspired. The eggs in the ramen were hard cooked, rather than soft. The pork was a bit dry; it probably would have been better to have chosen the pork belly in the ramen. I love tempura shrimp, which is why I ordered the combo #1. The the tempura roll was OK, but I really had little awareness of the shrimp in it and I had trouble biting through the nori. The nigiri was good--tuna, white tuna, yellow tail and eel. The service was attentive and friendly. The prices were very reasonable. No alcohol license yet.

Shrimp Pad Thai

Shrimp Pad Thai is a must here. Finally found a place where they do a proper Pad Thai. Definitely coming back !

Tempura Rainbow Roll, Tasty Inari Roll (I already ate one lol) half tuna half imitation crab, and an Avocado Roll.

I haven't ordered from here many times & it is always fresh, delicious, and ready quickly. They always listen to my special requests and make it to order. Tender fish & avocado is always ripe. Recommend the inari & the tempura rainbow roll, and the combos!

It's Bourbon Thyme is a fantastic cocktail that paired really well with every item we ate too. We started with the wedge salad, which had. A lovely ginger dressing. The Tuna Tataki is a must, really nice rolled slices or raw tuna with the peppers and the ponzu sauce, truly amazing. The shishito peppers were wonderful and nicely charred with a great dipping sauce. The seabass may have been the tastiest item, the butter sauce and roasted lemon sauce was exceptional. We finished up with the carrots and bbq ribs, which were crispy on the outside but tender as you bit into the rib meat. Service was stellar as expected for any Michelin rated restaurant. I'm def coming back here soon, the bar looks nice and they have nice Ramen bowls and other items I want to try.

Perfection!!!

We appreciate the Yelp recommendations to try Wasabi…read more I am often skeptical of places along a main tourist area but Wasabi is the real deal...at least for the area. We were quickly seated at the sushi bar and the restaurant filled up quickly with other lunch clientele after that time. Sushi chef was efficient and our eel roll was fresh and delicious. Only 8 pieces so not that large. Would have paid more for a larger portion as we were sharing everything. Hot melt in your mouth yummy shumai were devoured. I saved some wasabi to add a little spice. Tempura appetizer included 2 large shrimp and veggie assortment. All around good meal!

I ordered a house salad and 3 sushi tolls - sweet potato, avocado, and mushroom and cream cheese (which I had never seen before). The prices were not bad for sushi. We came on Saturday night of a holiday weekend. We weren't expecting to be sat down right away because of how packed downtown was that night, but we were happy to get a table for two right away! Service did take a while, but we understood because of how full it was. Once we ordered, the food came out quickly and the add-ons we requested, like sauce, came out right away! I was let down by the house salad because it did not seem fresh. The ginger dressing was delicious, but some of the lettuce looked like it had been cut a while ago or stored for a while. The sweet potato roll was great, but I wish it had been dressed up a little bit perhaps with a drizzle of eel sauce on top. They brought me a side of the eel sauce quickly, though, when I asked, which was very appreciated. The avocado roll was top tier - fresh and a nice portion of avocado in the roll. The mushroom and cream cheese roll was interesting. It was probably my least favorite, but I just don't usually go for raw mushrooms. I wished they could have a veg combo with cream cheese, like with cucumber or another fresh veggie. Overall, we had a positive experience, but maybe knowing it had been so highly rated, I had higher expectations. I'd like to go back and try some of their non-sushi items, which looked good too.

How do I know, because I've eaten thousands of bowls of ramen from Michelin rated shops and this tonkotsu is BETTER than ALL of them. I have been studying ramen for over 30 years. I've eaten near ten thousand bowls of ramen since I had my first bowl of authentic Japanese ramen 35 years ago. Yes I'm qualified to make this statement. And no, I'm not telling you my name. I am unaffiliated, independent and unbiased. I've been a food critic for 45 years. If you're getting a 5 star review on a dish from me, you can rest assured it's legit. My top 5 bowls of Ramen as of tonight, are now as follows. 1- Heiwa Shokudo, Asheville NC, Tonkotsu, w/extra Chashu, pork belly, extra Ajitama, black garlic paste drizzle. Kaedama. 2- Ippudo, 5th Avenue, NYC- AKAMARU SHINAJI. Yes, Heiwa Shokudo's tonkotsu is BETTER than Ippudo's, (the best tonkotsu in the world.) 3- Totto- Hells Kitchen, Miso 4- Ichiran, Brooklyn. Classic Tonkotsu w/recommended toppings. 5- Ivan Ramen, Brooklyn, Tokyo Shoyu. If you love Tonkotsu as much as I do, go order a bowl from this place. It's epic! I'm done talking now.

My boyfriend ordered the miso ramen and said the broth lacked flavor, the pork was way too chewy, and even the corn wasn't good. I got the Ito Ramen Deluxe, but it was overly smoky, the noodles were rubbery, and the pork was also too chewy. I couldn't even finish it. The only thing I actually enjoyed was the seasoned egg. The gyoza was decent, but it honestly tasted like it might be store-bought. The service didn't help either. Our server, Abby, wasn't very pleasant, and the drink options were extremely limited.
