I cannot say enough as to how great of an experience we had at Zen Sushi! First off, the service…read morewas so welcoming and friendly. It felt more personalized than what you normally expect at a restaurant. The server was cheerful and made us laugh. We ordered the house salad, which was fresh and the ginger dressing tasty. Then, because I was so overwhelmed at the huge selection of veggie sushi (and figured them I could have lunch tomorrow), I ordered 3 rolls and some nigiri. The sweet potato roll was great - crispy with a little eel sauce on top. I added cream cheese to the avocado, asparagus, cucumber roll (which happens to be my favorite roll), and they added it with ease and for a fair cost (some places scramble when I ask for this roll). The joy roll with the tofu and crunch inside was so creative and great - probably my favorite roll. Then, I love it when places have the tofu skin nigiri, and they def had a good one. Not to mention, the presentation on our dishes was beautiful and so unique. After trying several places around Asheville, we now have a new go-to place for sushi for sure. We will be back!

Service and ambiance was successful, as usual. I gave six pieces of the Boston Roll (consisting of…read morecooked shrimp, avocado, lettuce, masago and mayo) and six pieces of the Eastern Roll (consisting of cooked shrimp, tamago [egg] and avocado) a shot. I had both with tamari, which gave them a nice salt concentrate. Overall, a respectable experience for my first Asian cuisine review.

I was looking for Thai food and everything listed was Downtown and the husband did not want to go…read morethere. We kept passing this place as we traveled around and it always had a pretty full parking lot so we decided to give it a shot. We were greeted poorly when we came in and as she was helping other people, she told us she'd be with the in a moment. She then helped us find a seat that we liked. That is when we found out. It's only been open two weeks - no wonder there's no reviews! Somebody knows how good it is though because the parking lot is always packed. The interior is absolutely beautiful. You can tell great care was taken in decorating and in the art. If you're looking for space for a big party-there is a huge room that would be absolutely stunning. I ordered Ramen and the husband ordered teriyaki ribeye. The waitress suggested the black garlic Ramen and it was amazing. The smell was heavenly, and the flavor was awesome... I could only eat half of it. Husband and I shared some spring rolls, which were awesome as well. Very fresh just right crispy and not overdone. Husband loved his teriyaki steak with the onions and vegetables. Our server Julie was attentive and helpful. We were also very fortunate to speak to the owner and he came and sat with us for a few minutes. I'm kind of sorry we didn't find this place sooner and I was sad that it had no reviews on Yelp but it has one now... If you are in the area, please check this place out. These people really care about what they're doing and it's absolutely outstanding!

Highly recommend Stoney Knob Cafe if you're in the area!

The Aloha is Excellent…read more We walked into Huli Sues without a reservation and had a phenomenal time at the bar. Christian the bar tender recommended the Mochiko chicken bowl and knew his STUFF about Mai tai's. I was concerned about Hawaiian food, having experienced the island. It tends to be mild and sometimes overly beige. This food was NOT THAT. The Mochiko bowl was a fusion dish I'd order weekly if I lived here. It reminds me of the blended culture of the islands where so many come together. We also had the burger, a solid example of the smash craft BUT the best GD sweet potato fries I've ever had. Believe me. I've had some fries. The Mai tai, while non-traditional was lovely. They do recommend reservations. Highly recommend this place.

We would have gotten in line earlier if we had known. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. If it is raining, the outdoor tables can still get wet even with the umbrellas. I got sprinkled on a bit during the light rain until I changed seats. The winner for me was the Hawaiian Combo with Huli Sue's chicken, pork katsu (breaded, fried pork), and three huge sweet chili shrimp, along with rice, Hawaiian macaroni salad, and pickled cabbage. Even my husband perked up with a "Yum!" when I gave him some of the chicken. He ordered the BBQ Sampler with prime beef brisket, pulled pork, and pork ribs, plus cornbread and coleslaw. The brisket was his favorite. The ribs had some of the white knuckle-like cartilage and connective tissue that you had to eat around, which I didn't particularly like. Several different BBQ sauces were brought to the table so you could choose the ones you liked. I would say the Hawaiian Combo was my favorite meal in Asheville--and normally, I don't even order chicken at a restaurant. That chicken was worth ordering.
