Pictures of our car after it was washed.

Terrible. Watered down cokes, we interacted with one employee who was nice. The building is dirty. Cockroaches crawling around on the floor. The best part were the patrons. They were fun. Of course there are fun patrons all over Austin. The main upset was we were there on New Year's Eve, and realized the owner of the bar, Miguel Jimenez, was spraying a foamy substance all over our car in the parking lot right after midnight. Fireworks were being shot off the back of our car. When my husband asked him to stop, he began to curse at my husband. It was a shameful display of disrespectful behavior towards your patrons. Our car wasn't the only one that was trashed out. We had to leave to try to find a place to wash our car. After inspecting our car we found chips in the paint. Not a good way to start off the New Year.

    TABC policy from their website.

Extremely rude staff that gave me a hard time after checking my ID (I'm 40ish with a grey beard) which is expired, so I ordered a water. I literally brought 15 people to this show, all of whom purchased drinks without being carded. Some of us were actually interested in booking there. Sad to say that's not the case. I ordered water and didn't take a sip from anyone's drinks. When I walked up to show the TABC website, the bartender wouldn't let me finish a sentence, and got the seemingly coked up bar back (other bartender?) in a "Twilight" shirt to yell at me about how I had harassed her 8 times (utterly untrue, with many witnesses). I walked away to "play by the rules", didn't want to mess with trying to get more water to avoid causing more of a scene after they escalated, and quietly had a conversation with someone else while the twilight guy fumed, said audibly "that's it" and had the bouncer forcibly kick me out. Most of the crowd I had brought followed me after their experience was also soured. I've seen cops with more respect.

    Pappy's rare whiskey!

I really liked this bar. No thrills, no frills, just a good hole in the wall bar. They've got a nice covered patio and a large smoking section. Lots of tables and a friendly bartender. As of today, they have Pappys whiskey! It's competitively priced, too! Nice spot for any refreshments. I'll be back to see them for sure. Small game room has darts and pinball. There's also Touchtunes box for the patron DJs...

FIVE STAR DIVE BAR!! About two weeks ago, I checked out Surf by Surf East, which is an annual surf rock music fest, at Nomad Bar. King Pelican was the headliner. I saw them in San Antonio the last time I went to Texas, and knew this would be a great show. Because I was staying downtown, I took a Fasten to the club. Nomad Bar is in a mini strip mall near the Target by I-35. I saw a bus stop station nearby, but I went with ride share since I wasn't familiar with the area. Nomad Bar has an outdoor patio area that's accessible only from the inside of the bar. I checked it out for a bit because it was such a nice night out, but went back indoors. The stage where the bands played is inside. Behind the stage is a projection screen. Most of the acts that night had YouTube videos looping in the background. The sound in Nomad is good for acts. Got some really good recordings inside. I sat mostly at the high tables towards the front by the entrance. I split a pizza pie, which was tasty (an independent business does the food at Nomad). Drink prices were pretty good here; I stuck mostly to Dos XX. In between acts, I checked out the game room, where there are darts and an arcade game. The game room is well-lit, which is in contrast to the main bar/indoor area that's dark and dive-y (in a good way). King Pelican were awesome that night (as expected). I would come back to Nomad the next time I'm in Austin. You should check it out.

I've been coming to Knomad now for a few years, and while it's location may be deceiving, the inability to find parking outside should be a good indicator! It's definitely our "go-to" local bar, and we pop in and out usually at least once a week, even it's for just for a quick drink. The management is the NICEST, most gracious bunch you could ask for, and they are almost always present, making sure everyone is happy and tended to. The bar staff is all phenomenal, no matter what time you go in. The have a game room, several TV's/projectors, and even have live music on certain nights. They have a great Sunday brunch deal that really can't be beat. They pour a great drink, and have a nice pizza menu to order from as well! They have an awesome, very large, dog-friendly patio with tv's, heaters, and misters. They have plenty of dog bowls for your pup, and a water cooler inside for you to use. They have a great sense of community too, and often have events going on that are open to everyone. Huge thanks to Miguel, Tammy, Jordan, and Audrey for always being the best bar staff in town!

So here's the thing, we were coming to Knomad back when it was Nomad. We lived walking distance away in the Windsor Park neighborhood about 3 years ago before moving further north. This was before kids, a mortgage, and all the other amazing perks of adulthood. We were just 2 kids in love hanging out at the bar with friends. But then we thought we'd get married and the very next day had brunch at Nomad. When we got our first pup together we brought him to Nomad. Even when I was pregnant Nomad owner stopped by to congratulate us. So see, Nomad is more than a bar to us. It's where where our roads crossed, it's where we made friends and created a family. We don't get to make it there often these days, but Nomad will always be home!

    Keep it classy.

Really rad spot with great drinks and spectacular service. Jukebox was on point with a gnarly set of oldies/punk.

Ask the Community - Knomad Bar

Are under 21 year olds admitted for concerts?

It depends on the time, but mostly, yes! Late night there is an age requirement!

Do they have bottomless mimosa's for brunch?

Not anymore, no. But they are still super cheap!

It is definitely a classic Austin location that I hope will be around forever! I don't drink beer but they had some great drink specials for those who do. One of my friends was able to get a non-alcoholic beer, the other had a beer, and I had a couple of topo chicos. I think you can also order food there, but we didn't order anything. They also have decent parking options if not in their lot, on the street so we didn't have to walk too far. And I appreciated that Jane was playing at an earlier time. Her band's songs were oldies but goodies and they got several people out on the dance floor! I hope to find myself at Carousel Lounge again soon!

Shouldn't be overlooked! Not sure anything has changed in 50 years! One man was bartender, cook, bubbles blower, popcorn maker, and friendly welcomer to all who entered or wanted to chat. Very spacious inside. Drink prices are of a bygone era- they only sell beer and wine for alcohol options. Sound equipment was good I'm told. A classic spot.

Tucked away on a random neighborhood street, HMSL featured not only divine and innovative cocktails but a great New Orleans-inspired menu as well. I saw many similarities from my years in the Big Easy so it was a nice nostalgic moment. We went on a Sunday and sat underneath their covered patio deck and the service was so good. It was fun to see the opulence of their bar and all the use of mixed fabrics and decor to create something dark and sultry. It felt like you were whisked into a completely different aesthetic. The food menu was so good and we shared a few plates including their heirloom tomatoes & burrata, biscuits & gravy, stuffed french toast, and shakshuka. We came in yesterday about an hour and a half before a dinner reservation nearby to meet friends for a couple of drinks. I was very upfront with the host that we were a group of six, only planning to have drinks, and had a specific timeframe. She seated us on a couch and chairs right behind the host stand. We waited about 30 minutes before our server came over, which we were okay with. He took our drink order (didn't write anything down, but repeated it back), and the cocktails sounded great, so we were excited. However, after placing the order, we waited nearly another 30 minutes with no drinks. At that point, we were getting close to our dinner reservation and hadn't seen our server at all. I went up to another host (not the one who seated us) to ask about the status. She said she would check, but when she came back, she just smiled and didn't give us any update. Another 10 minutes passed, and my mother-in-law went up to her again and said we would need to cancel the drinks if they hadn't been made, since it had now been over an hour and we had reservations elsewhere. Still, no clear response or communication. At that point, we had to leave and were already running late. As we were walking out, the server finally came over and told us he had been planning to comp the drinks because of the delay, but that someone bumped into him and spilled all of them. Honestly, that explanation didn't feel believable. He was completely dry, and both my husband and I have worked in food and beverage. We understand mistakes happen, but this didn't add up. It felt much more likely that the order was forgotten and no one wanted to be honest about it. The space itself is beautiful, but the lack of communication and accountability was frustrating. Experiences like this make it hard to want to return. That said, if the situation had been handled differently, with honesty or even a simple acknowledgment it would have gone a long way. Unfortunately, as it stands, this visit left a pretty negative impression.

Since it was new, it wasn't ever too crowded so getting (and keeping!) the attention of the bartender wasn't ever an issue. They have so many cute specials that I hope make a comeback when they do, like... Pass the Porrón everyday at 6pm! As is tradition in Spain (or so they tell me), the porrón (a drinking vessel created long ago as a way to share wine with friends) is passed around with a little white wine for everyone to indulge in (so you don't stain yourself trying to get it in your mouth!). Weekday Happy Hour from 4-6pm, where you can save yourself $2 on all wines by the glass. There's also $5 specialty cocktails that rotate every day of the week and then $5 select tapas. On Mondays, they offer half off wines by the glass after 6pm and on Tuesdays, half off all tapas starting at 6pm. There's a little balcony that wraps around the outside on the 3rd floor (I believe), so you can catch a beautiful sunset or just hang out inside with the velvet accents and library-esque vibe.
