I removed my purse from the stool and put it on the way too tiny hook for anyone's bag and then LITERALLY NO ONE sat there the next 40 minutes until we left. I'm always thoughtful, that if it's a crowded place, that I wouldn't take up a stool with my bag . Him, his comment and attitude were unnecessary. Whether he "built" the bar or not. Once during the week when friends brought us to some authentic Austin dive bars and then again on Sunday for bingo; which was really fun. The beer is basic domestic and imports. Drinks are more less standard cocktails and shots of "something." There was a band playing both nights we went and both were great. And, I was a winner at Bingo on Sunday when we went. Again, it was really fun and authentically Austin.

The website advertises "local musicians playing" and they basically mean a college kid playing club music from a laptop in the corner on the weekends. This place is also like two places in one? Is it Axis Bar or is it Antlers Wild Game Grill and BBQ? They seem to be trying to be both a restaurant and trendy bar and instead of focusing on one aspect of the business, they are desperately trying to balance both. As a result, neither are great. In reality, they are both pretty bad. This place is so unnecessarily segmented that ordering food and drinks meant that we had to do TWO different transactions, one for food, the other for a couple of beers...That's right, this place is so generic that they can't even synchronize your order and just have you pay for everything all at once. The simple act of ordering food and drinks at this place was an annoying hassle. The "talented chefs" that are mentioned on the website that specialize in "Wild game" are referring to the brisket/pork tacos, pizza, and beef sliders...you know...the super-duper wild stuff. The brisket tacos tasted like that cheap microwavable brisket you get at HEB and the pork tacos were more fat and pineapple than any quality meat. The price is $12 for 3 tacos...so $4 a piece for the small tacos at this place. There are much better and much better priced tacos in the area than the microwavable meat and tough/cold tortillas that they are serving up in this place. Overall, everything from the way this places is marketed on the website, the service, the food, the prices, and the beer selection is just all a big joke.

The vibe was "don't worry...be happy." Relaxing Caribbean music was playing the background, giving an island feel. There is a nearby food truck should you need to nibble. It is important to note that all drinks come with a 20% forced gratuity, which is not bad if you have one drink and the drink is inexpensive. You do not have buy a drink and can seat outside on the patio and converse. I used to work in the next block, so our entire team would visit Charlies and staff is always friendly and helpful..

The back patio is covered by a shaded parachute. They host a variety of events. When I visited CUC, they were partnering with Nike for a 5K Pride run. After the run there was a variety of drink options to choose from. They have kombucha on tap, they serve amazing organic juice blend cocktails, local beers, biodynamic wines. I tried several of the organic juice blend cocktails and they were able to add my spirit of choice. I tried the Rosie Cheek with vodka, watermelon, rose water and raspberry, Valley Girl with tequila, pineapple, banana and coconut, and the Golden Ticket with mezcal, kombucha, ginger and lavender. They had a drag show on the patio after the run. It was a very fun and engaging experience.

The look of the place on the inside is relatively unchanged from it's prior makeups: low-slung bar curving around the downstairs to your right as you enter, stage lower level left, some sort of odd cage thing (they had chosen, strangely, to make this a "blogging station" during the Dell Lounge stuff), and a series of couches and causeways upstairs for a better look onto the stage below. We saw the Liam Finn set here, and the acoustics were certainly passable, though it's worth mentioning that as it was 92 degrees outside, the few wispy fans upstairs weren't cutting it (I'm talking about actual fans here, not rock fans). The place is a little dingy inside, the kind of joint you likely wouldn't wanna see with the lights on, and it seems to change titles more often than mojo. And while this day whatever name it chose to go by suited us just fine, it's never been a destination spot. Just an extra cobblestone on your way down the road.

The chairs on the patio really need to be replaced, they're the normal plastic white patio chairs you see everywhere but they were buckling - and I swear, my friends and I are pretty much normal sized, not hulks! The drink prices were a little odd - it was 4 dollars well whiskey and coke, but SEVEN dollars for jim beams? And they had no diet coke - I don't even think they were out of it, they just don't have it period. Some of us have to watch our girlish figures AND get drunk, thanks! I wouldn't refuse to come here, but I don't think I'd seek it out. I'd definitely not spend a whole evening here because I'd probably want to be drinking elsewhere, but it would be fun pop in for a bit to see a show/dance/etc.

This place has also been rated the third best club in Austin several years in a row. They always manage everything so well despite the number of crowds they get. I've never waited longer than five minutes to get a drink at the bar. The Security staff is always so attentive and on top of everything. The staff checking everybody in is always happy polite and very pleasant to be around. I just can't wait for them to increase the height of their screen because as an avg girl who is 5.7" I never get to see any visuals or anything that happens on the stage or the screen. I recently went to silo and Dallas and did not have that problem at all because the screen was significantly higher. Concourse however really is home to the entire rave community not just in Austin, but in all of texas. This place will forever hold a special place in all of our hearts. They have an insanely delicious food truck that operates in the space outside that always delivers the best quality food. The only thing I would say about that specific food truck is that they seems scam me by taking advantage of intoxicated people through their tip system. The last time I went to pay, my suggested tip was defaulted at 25%, the next option was 30%, and the one after that was 35%. With how poor the rave community is, it is highly unfortunate to see that specific establishment, taking advantage of people who are under the influence and cannot make coherent decisions. This is of course, not a concourse problem, but a problem of that specific food truck operating in the backyard of Concourse.

The venue is near the airport, which is a nice change of pace from fighting downtown traffic. Parking is available on-site, but note there's a fee; budget for that or factor in rideshare costs instead. The modular warehouse features varying floor plans and layouts with a large main room floor, upstairs mezzanine, two outdoor patios, and an adjacent field. The set was held inside, on the large main room floor. Two opening DJs got the crowd warmed up before Amelie Lens came on closer to midnight. The pacing felt right. I always wear hearing protection to music events. Keeping this in mind, the sound system was clean and powerful. Parallel screens running the length of the room, front to back, added a whole visual layer to the night. They clearly invested in getting the audio and visuals right. A detail worth mentioning for anyone planning to go is that there are free water dispensers set up in the back, which is a small thing that makes a big difference throughout the night. Staff were friendly and attentive all night. Service was smooth, and I never felt like the venue was understaffed or overwhelmed despite the crowd. Overall, this is a well-run venue with solid production value, thoughtful amenities, and a lineup that delivered. This is a room that respects the music. The sound and the flow of the night were perfect. Would happily come back for another set.

When I asked for the names of the drinks, I received a sigh and was spoken to as if I were an inconvenience. My tab was closed without being asked. I checked my receipt due to the lack of service and noticed a 20% automatic gratuity had been added. When I questioned it, the bartender said they have to add it because otherwise no one tips. That's not a guest problem--that's a service problem. Tips are earned based on the service provided. The Strawberry Fields and Watermelon cocktails were actually very good, which makes the attitude and forced gratuity even more unfortunate. With better service, I would have tipped more. Would not recommend.
