The women working here are so cold and unwelcoming. As a new knitter, I feel so uncomfortable asking questions and for help. They lost a sweater I worked so hard on that I brought in to be put together. I left it there a while, but they still just can't find it. It's expensive too. Super friendly staff and an amazing selection of yarn! It took me a few minutes to realize the store is located around back, on the lower level of a cluster of retail shops. Once I found the entrance and walked through their doors I was transported to yarn heaven...astonished at the wall-to-wall shelves and baskets of yarn. They had my favorites; Malabrigo, Misti Alpaca, Madeline Tosh (the list goes on.) After browsing their stock and chatting with everyone I quickly realized I had been in there for an hour...time flies by when having fun! I still feel like I could have stayed longer and discovered more inspirational store samples and lovely yarns to fondle. ;-) Next time I'll bring something to work on and stay for a while to get to know the girls and sample some of their tasty treats that were laying about the "knitting table"! read more

I absolutely love this store. They have the most incredible selection to pick from. The entire staff is extremely nice and super helpful. They are all so talented and can help you with almost anything! I took a class with Michelle and it was amazing. She is so sweet and patient, I can't wait to go back to learn more. I was told to place a special order on hand dyed yarns so they would match . When I started the second skein it was apparent the dye lots were different. Called and was told that always happens with hand dyed yarns. Then why did I wait for the yarn ? Paid close to $200 . They would not refund even though they were WORNG Never going there again! read more

Not only is the store fully stocked with all sorts of yarn and accessories for knitting and crocheting, but the friendly staff can help you out with just about anything related to knitting. If you don't know how to knit, they will teach you. They even have a crochet expert! If you do know how to knit, but want some company while you finish a project, or are not sure about the next step, you can go in and sit at one of two big tables, enjoy the company of others, and receive the help or encouragement you need. They have some great yarns available, and the staff's interactions with the regular clients were super cute! To be honest, I had no idea who was staff and who the clients were when I first walked in, and saw some ladies knitting. They all looked like they were having loads of fun, chatting about their lives, nephews, grandkids... I found this be one of the snootiest yarn stores that I have ever encountered. I found the product to be lackluster and in addition, nothing in the store was priced. The staff had no idea of the cost of their needles. They only carry three brands and could not recall basic pricing. I found a pair of needles that I liked and went to purchase. After my transaction, I was not even offered a bag for my needles and receipt. It just seemed very unprofessional and far too clique-y for my tastes. Also, they hassled me because I wanted to use a credit card despite having no sign and a visual credit card reader. Bad customer service! read more

I didn't find the selection to be all that wonderful, I went to touch a yarn that was in a plastic bag, the owner had the sales clerk run over to tell me no touching. I was like it's yarn, are you serious? That wasn't my first time shopping there either but it was definitely my last and I haven't returned in months. I like the selection at Knit in Roslyn. They have all of the colors and types of yarn that anyone might want from the gentlest of baby cottons to thick, bulky wools. They are friendly and helpful when I visit in person. However upon calling them to find out if they had a specific type needle and the price, they would not tell me the price over the phone. This was a negative experience for me, as I like to a) shop around and b) know what I am getting into before making the trip. read more

It can be a little tricky to find the store on your first visit if you're not expecting it to be down a flight of stairs, but once you step inside you are surrounded by over 100 different yarns, an incredible selection for a yarn store. With the exception of a young girl who is very helpful, the two women in charge have no concept of what it is a good customer service. They are very friendly if you go and buy but that is all they care about. Oh and watch out if you have a foreign accent. They discriminate. Typical snobs. Good quality of yarns but unfriendly people... a shame. Probably when they started they were cordial. Either the people that were good left or these two are burdened with a lot of stress. You reap what you saw. Maybe they do not know that there are other stores that might give the same quality in yarns with kindness and a good heart. Or maybe they do not know there is a recession and that small stores like theirs are closing every day... Garden City Stitches closed because of bad customer service among other things and those situations were reported by unhappy customers. read more
