Good : I came here to buy singles for magic and found alot. The store is a mess but own has most on the computer to know what she has. Okey : This is a gaming store like most say and on the outside it is small and inside it is a mess. The warhammer and others are Retail (this is a retail store). So most of the retail stuff are fair price for retail but you will find alot of stuff other stores dont have here. BAD : They have a good setup for touraments and on those days it does get a little buzy. So cant really come to buy. Over all : good place for gamers and people looking for those single magic, warhammer, and other boardgames. read more

My local card shop. It might be a disorganized mess, but there are 2 kids living there, hello! I go there mostly for magic, and so do my friends. Nobody cheats or steals. Everyone has fun at the FNM's and the owners are a hoot. Get over your need for bombastic prizes and organized paradise, come for fun and good gaming atmosphere. read more

While they had a nice selection of games and miniatures, the staff member that I encountered was rather gruff / rude. She kept giving me the evil eye like I didn't belong in there at all. I know I don't look like the typical nerd but still. I was there as an interested customer and I found her glares to be a major turn-off. read more

This is a great place to get all sorts of great stuff for your kids. Especially Magic the Gathering stuff, but they also have a great assortment of board games, family games, card games, jigsaw puzzles, hero games, etc. The owners, Lori and Brant, are very nice, good people. They sincerely care about running an honest business and are extremely helpful. If you just ask for what you need, they can point you in the right direction and are happy to do so. Just give them a chance! For those with negative reviews, I honestly think that some of you are making assumptions about what people are thinking...try not to take things so personally...maybe a look is just a look and not a judgment. And is it really hurting people if they have their children in the store with them? They seem like very, very good parents (I have seen their children working on homework on more than one occasion) and since there are no electronic toys/games in this store their children (and customers) won't be over-exposed to blue LED lighting, which is good. I highly recommend this store. read more

Excellent Store. Exactly the kind of place I WANT to buy Magic cards from. It's cluttered, sure, but the lady behind the counter is always willing to help and has been nothing but gracious for my business. I come in, ask for exactly what card I want, then she gets them for me...I DARE you to find a place that has that kind of service! Most other comic stores force you to wade through thousands and thousands of cards, in hopes of finding what you're actually looking for. This place makes it way convenient. I have made it my go-to MTG store in LA. Don't listen to the other negative reviews of this place - it's not bad in the least. It's family owned, so it's a wonderful business to support too. read more

I'm not an avid gamer, but I grew up with friends who were and adapted to that world. I've recently found myself reemerged into the world of games, and Knight Ware is my go to store. Thats not to say I wont go to any other stores to shop, but I'll make this my first stop if i'm looking for something specific. The stores run by a husband and wife team. Lori is pretty knowledgeable on games and cards. Brent is too, but he's the friendly employee who interacts and handles customer relations. They have 2 kids who take after their dad, and will entertain you even if you're the tag along who is embarrassed to be in a game shop like this. I read a review stating that the store was a mess and prices were steep. Now I agree that the store is disorganized, but by no means is it a "mess" like described. They own thousands upon thousands of magic the gathering cards, miniature/board game pieces, and other games. The board games are all organized on shelves on the walls. The loose items are what this reviewer was talking about, and he is out of his mind if he thinks theres any way to handle something like that with 2 employees. Despite everything, Lori can look up and pull any card for you if she has it in stock in a matter of seconds, without you having to go through a bin of cards. You go to any other store and they'll point you to a commons/uncommons box and the rares they'll put in some bulletproof case for 10 times the price they should be charging. Knight Ware also has the lowest prices on most (not I say most and not all) items. The reason theres a crib in the corner is because, like i said, they have 2 kids. Sometimes you'll see them in the store and being that they are both below the kindergarden age, they take naps. I mostly wrote this review in response to a very exaggerated view stated by another user. If the store was so unorganized, messy, cluttered, it would be gone by now. They wouldn't be able to do business like they should to survive in studio city of all places. But knight wares been around for years and years. And they hold tournaments there, accommodating a lot of people. Take my advice people...go check it out for yourself if you're a gamer. The parking sucks but its made up for by excellent friendly service, low prices, and a great selection! read more

Knight Ware is a great little gaming hovel in LA! As most people have commented about, the place is filthy, but the owner Lori is really nice and always helpful. I played a Magic tournament here, and Lori keeps a stack of leftover promo cards from previous sets to give away as extra prizes, beyond the regular tournament prizes. If you don't mind the clutter and messiness of a family-owned card shop, then I highly recommend Knight Ware. read more

The other reviews complaining about "hoarders" and lack of fresh air are so LA. Stop shopping at The Grove and see reality people. This store is not dirty or "hoarder"-ish, they just have a lot of product in a small space. The prices on boardgames are MSRP which is higher than online stores but that's true everywhere. I found a brand new copy of Runebound which is now out of print and hard to find so I snatched that up. I was also asked if I needed help within a few minutes of entering. read more

I would have to say this is a great place to go to. Not only do they have quite a few games but the owner have made it into a cool place to just hang out. There have some of the store's games in the front you can try out to see how you like it. They have a calender up with several things that interest anyone with even a slight interest in games. For example they have board game day every Saturday with a great group of people making a place to gather for the love of games. read more

What Chris P says! This place is amazing and they have EVERYTHING. I make a point to buy from them as much as possible.

Recently they guys at work decided to start a Dungeons and Dragons club at the office, and though I am a bit of a n00b at the game as I have only played it a few times before. I was tasked with the role of Dungeon Master so before starting our first game with the guys I figured I would scout a few places ahead of time to find somethings we will need. Before coming here, I read many mixed reviews here on Yelp with half being really good and the other half very poor. I decided to come check it out for myself and find out what the deal is. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon and found no street parking outside so drove in the back alley and found a in the rear parking lot. There was no back door so we took the little alley way on the side which was pretty dirty, and smelled pretty gnarly. We walked in and I saw there was quite a lot of stuff right away. Though most of this stuff are games, it did seemed a bit bit too much right away. I walked a few of the isles searching for some DnD items but didn't find to much, though they did have quite a bit of Pathfinder items. There was also quite a bit of Warhammer items, and a bunch of Mini figures that one can paint for their RPG games as well as a bunch other other board games. I did also noticed there were some boxes near the front counter with some products such as Star Wars miniatures and a few other games as well as some paper work near that table by the front counter to go along with some other stuff cluttered there and by the other half of the store...which is were I could guess is what most people have said this place is a mess (almost hoarder like). As I mentioned before there are plenty of games and such in the front half of the store, though the the other half did seem a bit open with some other boxes and supplies. My guess is this area is used for in store gaming when they hold some events. There was also a back office area with some more boxes and supplies. The lady working there (who I think is Lori) did see me walk in and noticed me walking around the isles looking around, but didn't ask if I needed some assistance for a few minutes. She was a bit helpful after I asked for some D&D stuff, though she mentioned their selection for Dungeons and Dragons was fairly small (mostly just the books in the back of the side shelf). I do have faith in this store, and do see myself coming back. I think maybe if the store were to be remodeled a little bit and move some of the shelves a bit further to give the isles a bit more space the front have of the store won't seem so busy and almost claustrophobic as well as a little cleaning this store would be pretty awesome. read more

This is a great place to go if you need recommendations. I don't know anything about board games, and I wanted gift recommendations. The owner was super helpful and showed me dozens of games that were great fits for what I was looking for. They also had some demos that were really helpful, and they were more than willing to show me the ropes of every different game. They also had a huge selection, and the prices were really reasonable. read more

Love this shop so much! I've seen a few negative reviews on here that complain about it being "cluttered," but what that really means is that this store has everything you could ever want. A ton of version of Fluxx? You betcha. All kinds of new dice, because all my d20s are currently in dice jail? Absolutely. This place is a delightful treasure chest of awesome stuff. The only real danger is that while you're browsing you're bound to see some cool new thing and add it to your pile. I had a great time perusing all the figurines and the owner helped me with a ton of insider tips and advice for painting my first mini. (thanks! It turned out awesome!) Which brings me to my next point: I was new to the store and the area, and a little self-conscious being fairly new to D&D in particular, although I'm no stranger to game shops. My first impression was that the store was nice, quiet, and pleasantly cool as I stepped in off the street. I was struck by how much stuff there was, but not in a "hoarder" way, in an impressed "I'm gonna be back here in a week to get more of this stuff" kind of way. Lori was chatting with someone about Magic cards, but interrupted herself to check in with me and told me to let her know if I had any questions. Then (and I can't stress enough how much I like this) she left me the heck alone to browse. No wandering up next to me trying to sell me on things I was looking at, no sales pitch, just let me keep to myself until I was ready. And then, when I started asking her questions, man was she on top of it! I get the feeling she's really knowledgeable on all sorts of topics, but I can definitely confirm that she knows her way around tons of D&D and painting advice. As a newbie I really enjoyed getting her take on things, and I got nothing but a friendly vibe from her. The checkout counter, as another photo attests, did have some stuff on it, but that didn't slow down Lori in the slightest as I paid at the register. As an aside, as a girl I sometimes got a hostile feel in some other game shops, or the customers or employees talk down to me, but I felt completely at ease here. And yep, I did in fact return the following week, and this is my store of choice now. read more

This is a gamer's game store. It is run by a very nice family who have become my friends. They are very welcoming to everyone, but you will have a culture shock if you are not a gamer. If you don't like kids, mind shelves full of stuff and want the mall experience; not for you. If you like kids, like looking through lots of interesting stuff and want obscure collectibles; best store in all of SoCal. read more

Knight Ware is the perfect place to go if you want speedy, excellent service, good prices, and a friendly, casual environment. With an extensive selection of Magic cards and board games, Knight Ware is any gamer's dream store. Great location, great service, great all around. read more

Lori, the owner, is the best. This place is the hub of Legacy, Vintage, and Old School Magic in LA, and carries all the major board games and a lot of minis and painting stuff. She has *a bunch* of Magic decks and staples to lend out for both Legacy and Vintage events (including FNMs) and she has the best prizes for staples tournaments in LA, and it's not close. The decks are great to help people get into the format because there is Legacy FNM every week and casual games on Wednesdays. Very cool group of regulars for Magic; older, friendlier, and there to have fun and hang out more than try to ruthlessly win. Regarding board games, the customer base is loyal enough that Lori actually gets real feedback from the people she's selling to, so she knows what's good (and always does her best to have it in stock) and won't try to upsell or any of that. Other folks mention a price premium, but it's never unreasonable because to me, it's worth paying a bit more to get a game I know is good and support a local business than to throw down $50 on a game I only play once or twice because it's "meh" that had okay reviews. It's the messy basement that I, being from LA where nobody has a basement, never had. Best LGS in LA - and there are a lot of 'em - because of the people and selection. read more

Went in with just a vague idea of what I wanted and was greeted with many recommendations - after she took some time to learn what I liked and what we were already playing. I left with 4 games and we loved them all. Highly recommend. read more

Great store owers are nice and very helpful. I buy games here 3 to 4 times a year will be coming back

Pretty good place. Excellent warhammer selection. They had tons of euro games in stock. You can find a few old metal miniatures there. Prices are not discounted. When I went in the lady watched me like a hawk. She also didn't seem to friendly. However, after a few minutes in the store I asked about a few games and she was very helpful and happy to give her advice. Overall a good experience once you get to know them. The place is small, and a bit out of the way. Parking is a bit of a pain. The place is small, organized, but still looks dirty. That is because there is a bunch of junk thrown in the back, and the display cases are not lit which makes they look dirty. read more
