Four years later updating as my neighbor and I have been forced out of our apartments by the DOB due to a slew of violations on the property- the most important ones being the illegal construction of backyard doors and conversion of a storage cellar into dwelling spaces- our bedrooms. Nice clause on the bottom of the broker agreement releasing these folks of any liability after happily telling me I could easily fit a queen sized bed in a death trap. These "expert advisors" are in cahoots with some of the filthiest slumlords in BK. Always check the DOB website for violations certificates of occupancy and landlord watchlists before proceeding.

Thank you, Mr. Hill for following up. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- At first BAB seemed like a professional, prompt establishment. However, the agent I worked with, Melissa, basically lied about many details of the apartment I ended up renting and was only out to make her part of the commission. The apartment was being "renovated" when I saw it. Melissa said the landlord would replace everything, put screens in the window and that the apartment came with a ceiling fan in the kitchen. Melissa stated that the landlord is great and the "super" does excellent work. She was very persistent when it came to collecting the deposits and fees, but her dedication fell off shortly afterwards. I requested to see the apartment again before the move in date to ensure all repairs had been made. BAB was unable to make that happen and began diverting my questions to the agent representing the landlord. On my move-in date, the "super" was still repairing the bathroom, there were no refrigerator or stove, the ceiling fan had been replaced with a used light fixture, the windows did not have any screens, and a filthy stove hood was in the kitchen. (The appliances were delivered after 6 PM that evening. Therefore, I didn't have any heat because National Grid could not turn on the gas without a stove.) Over the last month, I have made several requests to have BAB do something about all these issues, but nothing has been done. When I began my complaint to Melissa, she tried to say that she didn't say everything would be "new" or "replaced". She basically just stopped responding to me. At that time, Ernest became the contact person, and he assured that everything would be taken care of. He claimed to have contacted the landlord's agent and more useless promises were made. I was told that the super would replace the hood and install the screens "when the weather got warmer". I recently followed up with the super and he told me that he doesn't install screens. Communication has been horrible. They haven't even been able to supply a contact number for management...just the address to mail monthly rent checks. This has been a disappointing experience. My next step will be contacting a lawyer to see what my rights are concerning this mishap. I have a huge paper trail to document everything. It's great to see how wonderful BAB has been for everyone else...wish it could have been for me as well.

I love the communal and friendly vibe of Joynture -- you really do feel like a part of a community. Everyone is super sweet and welcoming -- Paul, the receptionists, etc. The kitchen was my favorite part -- namely the brand new cappuccino maker. They also stock the kitchen with snacks, cereal, etc. daily -- a definite perk. Great, great location -- right near the 4, 5 and the 2, which were my main lines. Also, it sounds pretty impressive to say you "work on Wall Street."

After looking at several "no-fee" apartment listings on various websites (ALL LIES/did not exist),…read moreeach time it was a trap by shady brokers from small companies who were trying to reel you in as their client. After realizing that it was almost impossible to find a "no-fee" apartment, my roommates and I decided to go for a legitimate agency and was referred to work with Ana Weisberger. Ana was fantastic!!! Always on the ball, punctual, professional, quick to respond, patient to explain everything and had a great knowledge of the Manhattan and Brooklyn market. We spent two days with her looking at apartments in both Manhattan and Brooklyn (and she even drove us around on one of those days--road trip!). Ana worked hard to accommodate our schedule and displayed her talent for scheduling viewings. We had quite a few listings to see in one day scattered all over Manhattan and Brooklyn. Ana was very organized and efficient in getting us to our spots in the allotted time, I was definitely impressed. Ana is honest, dedicated, hardworking, super nice, and has a fun personality (great sense of humor)! I never felt like she was trying to pressure us in to anything and was always on our side. She even negotiated with the building management to get our rent down by $200 per month--amazing! And, she continued to check in on us after the move to make sure everything went okay. Such a statement would be like saying a fine steak is "the best" when compared to a pile of garbage, a used diaper, and a broken limb. Rather, Ana not only shines in sharp relief to her "competition," but she also demonstrates a level of skill, attention to detail, gumption, and kindness that would put even the most demanding of clients at ease. I first worked with Ana while she was representing the landlord in a co-op building in which I hoped to rent. Although she represented the other party she was unfailingly helpful and ensured that the approval process was smooth and painless. From this experience (as well as Ana's regular check-ins and birthday wishes) I knew that when I looked for a new apartment, Ana would be my go-to source. She did not disappoint. Ana lined up roughly 10 apartments to look at in a single day, helped us find the right one, and smoothed over an otherwise stressful, chaotic, and unpleasant experience.
