Gord and I had lunch on the patio of The Beach House in Port Dover Monday afternoon. Fun view!…read more Gord had Knechtel's Battered Perch Dinner (4 pieces of Lake Erie's finest fish, hand-dipped in our famous batter. Served with housemade coleslaw and rice). He liked it so much he said he'd get it again. I had chicken parm and it was okay. It was cheesy but the chicken was overcooked and the pasta was kind of cold. Jordan was friendly and took good care of us.

We've been coming to Port Dover every few weeks for over ten years now, and yet it was only…read morerecently that we finally checked out The Beach House. It was a hot August day so the place was packed, but we managed to snag a table inside (which was better anyway, given the temperature outside). I'd heard that the perch is the thing to get, so I ordered the Panko Breaded Perch Dinner ("Hand-dipped in panko breadcrumbs and fried to perfection. Served with house made coleslaw and French Fries"). It arrived quite a while later and it's fine. The perch had obviously been sitting around a while, as it wasn't hot and kind of soggy. It's also weird that they're such small pieces, given the cost of the platter. But the fries were good, at least. It's obvious that the main draw at The Beach House is the ambiance and the view of the water. And yeah, that view was pretty great.

The restaurant is fairly large with comfortable booth seating and warm atmosphere. The wait staff were friendly and efficient. I ordered the chicken souvlaki with a side of onion rings. Souvlaki was well seasoned and was served with onion, tomato, feta cheese, and Tzatziki. The onion rings were typical frozen out of a bag but were well prepared. All in all quite a good lunch. I recommend. Just a note, the restaurant doesn't appear with a yep search, found it listed on night life.

It's just a quick exit off I-90 and practically on the lake -- super convenient whether you're heading to Niagara Falls or traveling back toward Pennsylvania or Ohio. The food was excellent and you can really taste the care they put into it. They source as locally as possible, with their perch and other fresh fish coming straight from the fish market across the street. I had a hand-patted juicy beef burger topped with their homemade chili -- delicious. The curly fries are made in-house: they take a whole potato, spiralize it on the spot, and fry it fresh. They were outstanding! The owner also makes all the pies in-house, and everything we tried was super fresh. Prices were fair for the area, the service was genuinely friendly, and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the welcoming atmosphere. If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and stop here -- you won't be disappointed!
