Immediately goes onto my list of Portland's Great Places! My…read morejourney to this store started after my brother gave me a strange gift: a jar of iru beans! "What do I do with these?" "You're a cook, you'll figure it out." Well, I did some research and found a recipe for efo riro (Nigerian stewed greens). But besides the iru, there were half a dozen other ingredients I knew Fred Meyer or New Seasons wouldn't carry. A few weeks later I saw the sign for Mama Pauline's and figured she would help. Did she ever! (She even carries iru beans, in case you want to make the dish but didn't get them from your brother.) I bought a dried smoked fish (the store has several kinds, and the owner guided me to which would work best for this dish), powdered crawfish, bitter greens (again there were several kinds, frozen), genuine Nigerian curry powder. She even carries dried cow skin (ponmo), which the recipe calls for but I decided to leave out! The dish came out fabulous. And it has interested me in the whole subject of African cuisines, something I hadn't really thought about, much less dabbled in, before. I'm getting an African cookbook from the library, and I know where to get the ingredients. Even if you don't have a specific cooking project in mind, the store is absolutely charming -- a small store packed with ingredients you've never heard of (including some fresh produce and cold beverages), with a gracious and friendly owner there to help.

I was introduced to this place thanks to yelp and they did not miss that day I wanted to make pepper soup. They are a little costly compared to what I am use to, but I understand especially with them being one of the only West African store (that I am aware of) out here. I really liked the space.

It takes a little less time if you go through the drive-thru, but still, the response times are abysmal. The problem is that this *PHARMACY* now prioritizes all the vaccine people, who take precedence over prescription pick-ups. Ridiculous. Don't go here. Get your prescriptions filled at Rite Aid if you want decent service.

She engaged with every customer with a smile and enthusiastic greeting. The gentleman before me was trying to apply points for his purchase...an annoying and tedious process...and I had a badly sprained wrist so I was slow and clumsy, but she was supportive and very helpful in moving things along. She apologized to the customers in line, greeting each with a warm smile. (She also gave me some kind advice about using horse linament for my badly sprained wrist, but I was too distracted by pain to pay attention.) She was altogether wonderful. Please give this kind-hearted, generous employee a raise! She exemplifies the best of customer service!!!! I am having a miserable weekend filled with pain and unable to use my right hand. I accepted that nothing good would happen this day. But boy, I was surprised by the kindness and consideration of this cashier for every customer waiting to check out. She has been the bright spot in my miserable day. Thank you for hiring her, and please, please give her a raise!!!

I had a passport photo taken yesterday and requested a digital copy sent to me for online renewal…read more After several hours I had not received this so I called Willow and asked when I should expect it. She said corporate says 10 minutes to 24 hours. Today, after 24 hours, I called back since Willow told me she could resend them if I do not receive them. So, three phone calls later speaking to same person named Crystal who 1) told me printer was down so emailing was impossible. 2) there was no one there matching my description of Willow obviously I called the wrong store and I was lying. She said I need to go to different store and have photo retaken!!!!!And after I found Willows name I called to prove it was that store she told me Willow was wrong, she should not have told me that and hung up on me. First, Willow was a delight. She takes customer service seriously and is easily able to multi task without compromising customers. She told me she does passport photos every day and that it is nonstop. Second Crystal (a manager for 2 years she boasted) was neither willing to actually find out if my request could be done she just shut it down. She was so quick to throw Willow under the bus and call a customer names rather than DO HER DAMN JOB. Walgreens, I feel in today's world this business model will fail.

Apparently this location gets hard hit by shoplifters since it's close to the burnside max station and the bottle drop. I love using the app to get additional discounts but the prices in the app are different than the store labels. Some employees will honor the app prices but some will not. There is also a fedex pickup at the photo counter which is convenient if you live somewhere porch pirates are prevalent
