-Hey! Nice lounge! I've been running through Schipol for years with Delta Status...usually fly in from the states first class, fly out in cattle car class because I have fancy status on Delta which the ground crews care about in the states (because they like their customers) so they upgrade me when there's empty first seats, but the ground crews at Schipol would rather the first class seats go empty than take care of their frequent fliers because "there are rules that must be obeyed" in (my very best Dutch butchery of accent)...
Huh? What were we talking about? Oh yeah, the lounge! So status might mean a hill of beans to the Dutch, but they do put on a pretty decent lounge. On par with most of the best ones with a shower and lots of space and fancy coffee machines and a nice lady that will make you food plates that make other lounge food feel sad and inadequate.
Pro tip: If you're doing regular round trips to Europe from the states, fly Delta in and American out. Delta in puts you at Schipol and gives you friendly ground crew and the "meh" lounges of the states. American puts you through Heathrow on British Air (hey, nice lounge!). There's a status match between American and Delta so if you have status on one you can get instant status on the other.
Or maybe I'm just switching back to American fully...the American lounges are so much nicer than Delta, and I just can't deal with the KLM ground crews anymore. But then I'm JAL to Asia instead of Korean Air which gives me the AMAZING Sakura lounge at Tokyo Narita (nicest shower on the planet...I've tested all the showers, even the one at your house, and the one in the Sakura lounge is the best) but Seoul is such a cool city with that easy train to get in instead of the stupid bus to Tokyo from freaking Chiba or the $1.7 million cab ride, plus Koreans are awesome and oh my god don't get me started on the variations of bibimbap...
Huh? What was I talking about? Oh right, the KLM lounge at Schipol 25 C. It's a nice lounge.
I've not been drinking. Nope. read more
