Nice little ice cream place if we were going to look for some lunch we would have never known about this place. They make all there ice cream I had a chocolate milk shake that was good and a cone with vanilla ice cream, if it hadn't of been so hot out it would have been a much better experience but the ice cream melted sooo fast and dripped all over. Deliciousness - 5/5 Happiness - 5/5 I won't deny that I'm somewhat biased. This local ice cream shack is located just outside my alma mater and I have dozens of fond memories from my 20s eating there. But even without the glow of nostalgia, this place merits five stars as one of the greatest ice cream places of all time. They make their ice cream fresh. The flavors are limited but made with deep care. The mix-ins are plentiful. My son got a hot fudge sundae with oreo bits in it and it all melted together in pure bites of deliciousness. They also were selling an apple-based concoction for Fall that looked incredible. But to me, the milkshakes are the true star. Enjoyably thick, but not so solid that you can't get it through the straw. I go for either chocolate-banana or chocolate-peanut butter. Either way, both flavors shine through. They flavors compliment each other while also being distinct. Not sure how they pull it off, but they do. Klines is awesome, I love it so much! read more

I didn't even know this place existed a week ago, but it's changed my life (no lie) ever since. It was the enormous, neon ice cream sign that first caught my eye, so props to their marketing team for that one. After convincing my boyfriend to take a chance on this ice cream spot, I was surprised by some truly incredible flavor. The food: As far as I can tell, Klein's has a rotating weekly special that varies from location to location. The stop we were at happened to have caramel pecan and apple strudel, so I got one scoop of each. I'll admit -- the caramel pecan isn't the prettiest scoop in the world. Still, IT'S SO GOOD. Klein's managed to infuse all the flavors of Fall into both the caramel pecan and apple strudel. The ice cream was creamy and thick, in a way that homemade ice cream tends to be. The only downside is it was a little on the sweet end but, hey, I guess it comes with the territory. Service: Can't speak a lot to the service (there's one window that customers order at and another where they pick up their treat), but everyone I saw working there did seem to be wearing masks properly. Key takeaways: If you're ever in Harrisonburg, try and stop by Klein's. Think of it as a post-hike treat, and it'll definitely be enough to get you through that last half mile climb. read more

Last night, Wednesday June 5th, we were staying in the area. Decided we want a sundae so looked at reviews and decided to try Kline's. When we walked up all the girls were in the back on their phones. 2024 I get it, Online they said that pistachio was the flavor of the month. NOPE, no such thing as we were told. Brownie batter, vanilla and chocolate. So we both had vanilla with 2 toppings and asked for whipped cream. One of us received a lot of toppings and the other was barely a drizzle. Might as well not had any. And the whipped topping was just a few dime sized squirts. And all for $17.00. Whom ever owns this shop made a killing off of us tonight. Btw, don't know when the vanilla was mad but we had chunks of ice crystals in ours. We always try to stay away from name brand places and pay patronage to the mom and pop places. After dinner last night, the kids and I needed something sweet before heading home. My son suggested Kline's as we passed it on route 11. We live in Staunton where there is a Kline's ice cream and BBQ shop but I didn't know they had a location in Harrisonburg. They had several flavors of homemade ice cream, all of them delicious. The staff was friendly and helpful when it came to 4 kids trying to decide what flavors they wanted. I ended up going with a small bowl of black raspberry but the kids tried it all: (2) waffle cones (1) small sundae and (1) banana split. It was all very good with large portion sizes. Honestly, I wish we could have ordered smaller portions as we ended up throwing some away but it was all good. The staff was helpful in suggesting ways to jazz up a plain cone or bowl with some whip cream, sprinkles and/or a cherry. It made for a great end to the day. read more

Klines ice cream is delicious, the "dips" (what they call scoops) are generous and it's always a crowdpleaser! Klines was a stop on many a night back in my college days, and on my recent trip back to visit my alma mater it was at the top of my list of places to go! Love it! Pulled over because we were craving ice cream. Turns out this is a local frozen custard joint. It's hard to miss when you see a giant ice cream cone off of main street. They don't have a huge variety in flavors, but the vanilla and chocolate custard flavors that they do have were smooth and creamy and could satisfy any ice cream craving. The girls in the shack were very nice. They were also nice enough to direct us to a Dairy Queen for my friend who could not eat custard. My friends from Tech stops by for the treat here. They make fresh batches every day so that's nice. I wish there was more variety. Limited to 3 flavors or 4 max (on wednesday) before they run out of the past week's flavor. They always have vanilla and chocolate, but there is a weekly flavor that changes every Wednesday. You can ask for a cup and a cone on the top so it won't drip. You'll probably regret getting just a cone because this will drip unless you are a fast eater. It's a local store so go and support it. My banana shake was ok, but the cashier was more interested in slamming her window shut than bothering to ask me if I wanted a receipt, or giving me one. Went to this klines on graduation night and had a horrible experience. It began by being cut in line by a worker's group of friends, waiting until four people after us had gotten their ice cream for someone to notice that we were still waiting. The girl who was supposed to be making the ice cream was talking to friends at the other window and once she realized she still hadn't done it, she hastily made it and handed it out. A different girl who noticed what had happened offered a buy one get one card. We were about to leave but noticed the milkshake was extremely grainy and malty. It was almost undrinkable so we decided to ask to use the buy one get one we had just received to get a jr dip instead of the $5 milkshake that was bad. They seemed very confused that I wanted to change out the item and eventually made a quick jr dip and shoved it out the window, said "don't worry about it" and slammed the window closed. I was shocked at how rude they were the whole experience and at the horrible customer service. If a customer is unsatisfied with a product they paid for, you should offer to remake it immediately! First the positive...I like Klines when they have my favorite flavors of the week. It's also a fun nostalgic place to hang out; it has been in Harrisonburg for at least 75 years. Now that there is another reputable, new business to compare it to, I have some other comments. You get less (quantity) for the price at Klines. And the service is a little "chilly." The young scoopers at Klines are not very warm or accommodating. Once at the S. Main Klines, I asked for a hot-fudge sundae to go bc I could not eat right away. I requested that the hot-fudge be poured into a separate small cup just to keep the portion of ice cream from completely melting until I reached my destination and could eat it. For some odd reason, that could not be done. They explained that they couldn't sell the toppings and the ice cream separately. I clarified that I am wanting to purchase a sundae, not separate ingredients, and that I just want to keep the sauce off of the ice cream momentarily. Their answer was "No." So I asked for the sundae, a cup and a spoon. I think they then realized how silly it was for them to deny my request when they handed me the cup and spoon with the sundae. Once I got in my car I transferred the sauce to the cup with the spoon they gave me. They have also frowned upon allowing a person to buy two different scoops of flavors into one ice cream cone.
