I've been completely surrounded by great ice cream and custard spots lately -- probably thanks to all the nearby dairy farms -- and each place somehow keeps getting better. We tried Bruster's Real Ice Cream today, and it did not disappoint. I ordered the strawberry matcha, and it was one of the best combinations I've had. The matcha was smooth and well-balanced, while the strawberry both blended in nicely and still stood out in flavor. Overall, a really solid experience and easily a 10/10 for me. I'll definitely be back to try more flavors. read more

We were craving some dessert after dinner, so we made our way to Brusters for the first time. We each ordered a blizzard (it isn't called that but I can't remember the name). I got Reese's with extra candy and my bf got m&m. She put a LOT of candy in mine. I loved it. Haha. The ice cream was definitely real. It melts fast in this heat! Delicious though - we'll be back again read more

chain ice cream location There is a good selection of ice cream flavors, very creamy with no traces of frost burn. The staff was helpful and would recommend their favorite flavors. I typically would just take the ice cream and go, but I would see some people eating the ice cream directly outside. read more

Best service ever!! Ice cream is great but nothing tops the amazing hospitality and welcoming atmosphere from the Brucrew!!

Great ice cream joint! Portions are VERY generous and the ice cream was delicious. Highly recommend Bruster's.

Wow. A quick google search for ice cream walking distance of our hotel scored us a GEM! Probably the best mint chocolate chip I've ever had in my life. Free pup cups. The messiest chocolate cone for a six year old with a wiggy tooth. The smell of the waffle cone hits hard as you walk up and the taste doesn't disappoint. I wish this place was local to me but my waistband thanks you for just being a road trip amazing memory. A must stop! read more

Great flavors and options. Big fan of the "wedding cake" special: almond cake batter with raspberry swirl. Service was kind of disoriented and some of our order took way longer than others read more

I like ice cream. You like ice cream. Who doesn't? I prefer Brusters over Klines. This is more like ice cream than Klines' drippy soft cream. I like how there is a lot of flavors all the time. The staff is really nice. The portions are huge. I go on Thursdays for 1/2 off banana split. It ends up being like $2.50 or less if I remember correctly. Whenever I tell the person I don't want whipped cream, she gives me like a ton of it... Mmmm doing a review on ice cream makes me crave some. read more

Awesome soft serve ice cream really rich can taste the freshness. We ordered two blasts one with Oreo and Reese's peanut butter cups. Easily the best blizzard type ice cream, I have had, if you would have told me this is custard, I would have believed it. I gave a point off for there premium ice cream pistachio, it was good, but not as good as Hagen Daz or Ben n Jerry's. It had the fake light green color you commonly see in the supermarket, but it did have actual pistachio's better than average. read more

Awesome ice cream! Great flavors, well made ice cream and great service! Came here for the first time with my hubby and such a happy clam afterwards! Hubby ordered a waffle cone with white turtle (which had gobs of caramel), chocolate almond coconut ice cream, and black raspberry. I had a waffle cone with Oreo ice cream and New York cheesecake. My hubby and I agreed I had the best flavors. (Hey, I am the foodie!) But my husband's flavors were delish as well, especially the black raspberry. My New York cheesecake tasted wonderful and had gobs of pie crust, which was delish! My Oreo ice cream had huge chunks of Oreo in it. I would come across like half a cookie in a bite, which was amazing. I don't know if Bruster's make the ice cream themselves, but I'm impressed with the quality. Their staff are nice and helpful. Our clerk gave us some free samples, which totally helped us make a decision. Their menu is legible and easy to read. Just a note- they're no longer serving Oreo ice cream sandwiches individually. It sounds like they're only making them if you order more than 1. But it looks like you can ask for any flavor ice cream as the filling. They also have frozen yogurt, smoothies, and Italian ices in case you're in the mood for something sweet but not entirely ice cream. Final Answer Great flavors, great quality, and nice service. Definite must try! read more

Delicious ice cream! I had strawberry cheesecake and my husband had key lime pie. We both got the waffle cone. They were very busy but we didn't have to wait long. So nice they're open until 10 PM. read more

This place has the feel of an old fashioned ice cream drive-up, where everyone gets their ice cream and hangs in the parking lot to enjoy. The employees were patient and offered samples as i questioned the silly named flavors that left me wondering what exactly they were. There are many flavors with a ton of items mixed in, but I went for a simple black raspberry- smooth, creamy, and just what I expected. There is frozen yogurt and dairy-free ices and sorbets as well. Bring your own banana on Thursday and get a deal on a banana split. read more

Was visiting Harrisonburg and happen to want some ice cream...Bruster's came up with good reviews and let me say the reviews were all great and Bruster's didn't disappoint! The staff is friendly and offered plenty answers to our questions as well as offered some other flavors off the menu and omg they were soooo good! I tried to Key Lime Pie and the Nutty Coconut (not on menu) and my sister Nutty Coconut & Pistachio! All flavors are delicious! Not only that, they have a DOGGY CUP for your pups! I say if you are visiting the area or are in the area try this place out! It's down the street from the James Madison University. read more

Great place to stop after a day at the park. This place had cute ice cream sundaes for my toddlers, a good sized milkshake for my teen and a heavenly brownie sundae for me. they even carry sodas for those not hungry enough for ice cream. The ice cream is really good, no corners cut here. Only down side is a lack of shady spots to eat. We ended up sitting in the car with the AC on. read more

I love ice cream...have since I was a kid and even worked at an ice cream store when I was a teenager and I still love it 30+ years later so whenever I travel I look for a good ice cream parlor to try. Sadly these days true ice cream places are few and far between as we see more and more frozen yogurt places popping up- sorry, but those places are just awful to me, no taste at all so you have to smother it with other stuff. Anyway, my family and I stopped at Bruster's while we were in Harrisonburg this past weekend and we enjoyed it very, very much. The service was very friendly and fast- we didn't have to repeat our order three times to the young lady that helped us, she was sharp! My wife had chocolate chip on a cone and said it was excellent, my son got some type of chocolate oreo blizzard or whatever they are called and he was really happy that they made it for him even though it didn't seem to be on the menu. I had a good old fashioned hot fudge sundae and it was excellent! Being somewhat of an ice cream expert, I look for a couple of things: Hot fudge- smooth and rich and believe it or not but a lot of places get this wrong- hot. (So many places think chocolate syrup is hot fudge!), the whipped cream was light, fluffy and tasted great and the ice cream I chose, chocolate raspberry truffle was terrific. I regret not buying a gallon of it to take home but I had a three hour drive ahead of me. Anyway, visit Bruster's and enjoy yourself....you can exercise extra hard the next day. read more

A local recommended Bruster's ice cream and we suggest you go there too. They have about 20 ice creams and a handful of other frozen treats like sorbet, yogurt and Italian ice. We had three flavors - cake batter, chocolate Oreo and Carmel crackle - which were excellent. Also saw ice cream cakes, sundaes and milk shakes on the menu. You are bound to find something that appeals to you at Bruster's. read more

Bruster's is one of my favorite ice cream places in town. They only have hard flavors (no soft serve) but they do not disappoint! Although, Sarah helped us out and had a horrible attitude. She rolled her eyes at the long line and literally said "oh my god" when more people walked up. They need to work on their customer service, also sometimes they close early. But I love this place to much to give it less then 4 stars! They also have a rewards program read more

Incredible choices. And such a friendly and helpful guy who waited on us! I found some Incredible new flavors including Salted almond Caramel with pecans!! Amazing read more

Was a big fan but they have reduced their serving size dramatically and give much less than competitors. I am through.

Guess I'm going to be the one who gives this place a three star review. I'll try to keep it simple. I ordered the smallest cup of chocolate cake batter ice cream. Half of it was melted. Cool. My husband ordered some type of sundae (looked like a sundae) that was supposed to have snickers pieces mixed in with vanilla ice cream, brownie, caramel and topped with whipped cream. They sure went heavy on the whipped cream he said. Meaning there was more whipped cream than anything else. He said the brownie tasted old and he just didn't like his dish. As for mine it was simple. Chocolate cake batter ice cream that would have been good if half of it wasn't melted. Can't say I will ever come back to this place or any of their other locations, especially when I know better ice cream exists out there. BTW service was friendly enough. read more

Good pit stop to get your ice cream fix. I prefer this place a little more than Klines because 1. It's closer to my house and 2. You get to personalize your dessert. There are a ton of options as well and outdoor seating! read more

Fabulous ice cream! Well worth the trip from the Massanutten Resort. Peanut butter sundae, M&M Blast, chocolate Oreo ice cream and cheesecake ice cream were all enjoyed by my family. Ice cream is very creamy. They had probably 20 flavors to choose from. No indoor seating, which wasn't a problem for us as the weather was great. Very reasonable prices! read more

Haven't had a bad cream in the 3 times I've been. Wouldn't recommend the split, all kinda gets piled together to creat a banana split mush. Friendly staff. Do not understand the menu though. Not organized to explain the options under each item, but the staff is always willing to answer your questions with a smile. read more

I have been here twice and gotten a vanilla milkshake both times (I know... boring, but it's what I like). The milkshake was delicious, and the service was fast and friendly. The prices are a little high for me, but comparable to other ice cream places in Harrisonburg. I look forward to trying more menu items soon! read more

I had a coupon with me and forgot to give it right away and once I gave it, the cashier said it was too late. I asked if she can cancel the order and redo it but she said no. That's bad customer service. She could have cancelled the order and redone it and given me my discount but she didn't want to. read more

If I could give Bruster 10 stars I would. They are simply the best ice cream in the nation. If you are a coconut lover their Jamaican Me Crazy will make you swoon. But any of their flavors are better than any other ice cream. Better join their cone and quart clubs so you'll qualify for free ones. I guarantee you'll be getting a lot of ice cream. read more

I loved this place. One regret of moving out of state is not having another one anywhere nearby. Everything I ever had was good to great. 5 days before I left town for last time I got a regular waffle cone, didn't know that meant 3 scoops of ice cream. But 3 scoops of Key Lime Pie ice cream was worth the surprise to say the least, it's my favorite flavor other than butter brickel. read more

WORST ICE CREAM EVER! Bitter walnuts, nasty textures, skimpy overpriced scoops, had to throw away...couldn't even eat it. I have NEVER thrown away ice cream. Who does that?! Simply gross ice cream. 3 different flavors in my sundae, horribly all bad. Mostly just whipped cream, very little ice cream. No harm, no foul, the whipped cream was the only thing edible! read more
