Adopted Oso (now Grizzly) in October 2024 and he has been the most incredibly addition to our family. I found my cute boy on petfinder which lead me to Kitten Rescue. After applying, we were reached out and did a FaceTime interview and showed around our apartment. We went to the Atwater village location and met our sweet boy (and so many other wonderful babies!) Kitten Rescue knows what they are doing with care and socialization, and is running a well oiled machine. The adoption fee was well worth it since they are all fixed, chipped, and vaccinated. I read a lot of people complaining about their kittens in pairs policy and adoption process which is honestly frustrating. Their policies and procedures are super fair and ensure the kitties go to quality homes. A denied application is not a good reason for a 1 star review... maybe do some cat care research before applying again. read more

They seem great at first until you meet with yhe foster kittens and get strung along for 2 weeks. Watched a woman chase around a terrified kitten and trying to drag it out of its hiding spot yowling. She later admitted to not trying to socialize them. Another strung me along for 2 weeks saying the kittens were very sick they said I was unsafe because I have a lego shelf. I have raised over a dozen kittens, some from 3 weeks because their mom was killed, and kept them healthy to the old age of 19. But it honestly just sounds like excuses. I would trust the shelter over them. read more

I first want to commend this org for their work and mission. My review is for Lindsay. I came today with an older, obviously sick cat my neighbors and I found on our street. I was just looking for help, guidance and support. A friend who volunteers there told me I could go there and that they were waiting for me. This woman Lindsay (in front of other people) was mean, rude and unkind!! She kept talking to me in an awful way telling me they could do nothing. No kindness, no real guidance. Just a horrible mean attitude. Thank God I'm a person who keeps their composure and I was already so worried about what was going on w this poor street cat and chose not to give this awful woman my energy so I remained calm. But she really was horrible and I know they are understaffed and overworked but I came to them because a trusted friend told me they could help. And if they couldn't, some support and kindness would've gone a long way. I hope someone gets to read this and let this woman know she can't speak to people with so much disrespect and mean attitude. EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL AND MISLEADING!! PLEASE BE AWARE BEFORE ADOPTING FROM KITTEN RESCUE!! I currently have a two-year-old cat at home and wanted to adopt another kitten/cat to add to the family. I went to visit one of Kitten Rescue's cat lounges: Tail Town in Pasedena. Read online and in-person on the kitten's profile at Tail Town that this kitten was a "preferred bonding." Meaning it would be preferred/ideally adopted with another sibiling at the cat lounge, but can/should be adopted to a home with a young kitten/cat. NOTE: the cat lounge and Kitten Rescue also had "bonded pairs" that require you to purchase both cats. After spending an hour with one of the kitten's I was interested in, I filled out an application later that day. Returned the next day to see the kitten again and was told that one of Kitten Adoption Coordinators, Chris Evans, was there and could answer any questions. Chris asked about my current cat's personality and explained that there were a few applications for the other sibling kitten but I was the first to apply for this kitten. However, would prefer adoption of both but was open to adoption of just the one kitten if there was no adoptees for both. Got an email from Chris the next day about proceeding to the next step of the application process, and we coordinated a time to do a virtual tour of my residence to make sure it's suitible for the kitten. After agreeing on a date and time, she emails me 10 minutes later saying: "The executive director at Tail Town just reminded me that both kittens should be adopted together and have an application for the two of them." I was heartbroken and felt so mislead by Tail Town and Kitten Rescue. I couldn't afford adopt two sibiling kittens at this time and unfortunately had to rescind my application. I was even more livid because this is the SECOND TIME I applied for a cat/kitten from Kitten Rescue, only to receive an email from Kitten Rescue's fosters that the cat I was interested in needed to be bonded with another. There was NO CLEAR DESCRIPTION that the cat/kitten I wanted to adopt was a "bonded pair," only "preferred." I emailed Chris back that saying that I would like to speak with Tail Town's director regarding this matter, but did not receive a reply back from her. I felt so cheated by this adoption service for a second time. I will never apply for a cat from Kitten Rescue again read more

The people in this organization deeply care about the cats and place cat happiness and health at the highest priority, and that's what matters. The volunteers and staff are skilled and work tirelessly for the sake of the kittens they rescue. I've worked with several animal shelters and organizations and often see animals at other orgs/shelters being adopted out to those who aren't fully educated on how to raise kittens or cats. Kitten Rescue does none of that--they ensure the highest quality of care for all cats that they take in, which is why their application process is more stringent than a shelter's. I think Kitten Rescue can do a better job with gently educating unaware people or fresh volunteers about the intricacies that even semi-experienced cat owners may not know about: the dangers of single kitten syndrome, how to introduce and acclimate cats, ideal cat housing for maximum lifespans, the kitten vaccine schedule, etc. but I've also seen how hard it is to manage everything as a small rescue. I highly recommend Kitten Rescue to potential adopters who are willing to provide an excellent quality of care for their cat. I believe that a standard cat from this organization is likelier to be well-socialized than a cat from a shelter (though shelter cats are still great!). You can even stop by their site/one of their partner cat cafes to interact with their cats before adoption. Kitten Rescue is an amazing kitten and cat rescue. They run an organization that takes good care of the felines in their shelter and ensures the cats go to good homes. (Note- my parents adopted a cat through the Pasadena Humane society. I assumed PHS would medically check out the cats prior to adoption as KR does but no! You sign the papers with PHS, you take your neutered/spayed and microchipped cat home with a coupon for a free VCA vet visit. Their kitten had a tapeworm) I've observed KR for the past year and their facilities are clean. Their cats are fed a raw diet which keeps down odors from poop. The cats' coats are healthy and glossy, and the cats are fully checked out by vets prior to adoption. There is a requirement of a video walkthrough to ensure your home is safe, and you must have someone who will take on your cat should you become incapacitated. In the worst case scenario KR will take back your cat. There are several cats at KR who are unlikely to be adopted and KR is willing to house them for life. If you like cats, come and volunteer for a 2 hr shift. You'll be trained in how to wipe cots and surfaces, sweep and mop, change linens etc, and guided in reading cat body language so you can help socialize them. read more

They could solve a lot of problems by renaming the organization "KittenS Rescue." Or maybe "Kitten x2 Rescue." Or perhaps "Just Kitten, If You Thought We'd Actually Let You Adopt From Us." There are major problems at this organization. The biggest one is that they truly don't believe they have any problems at all, so I have no illusions that they'll give any real consideration to anything I have to say. But to potential adopters, I ask... Are you single? Do you have a job? Are you not wealthy? Are you a minority? If yes to any of these, don't waste your time, you will be discriminated against and have your adoption options limited. But wait, there's more... Do you want to adopt only one cat? Have you had past success raising a solo cat from when they were young? Were you devastated when you lost your soul mate, who you loved unconditionally, after providing a happy, caring, meaningful life for 15-20+ years? Are you ready to begin this journey again with a new cat? Well first of all, you're a monster in the eyes of Kitten Rescue for subjecting your cat to the horrible lonely existence of being a solo cat, and 95%+ of their available cats are off the table. There are a handful of cats they are willing to adopt out as solo cats, but obviously for them to consider that, the cat's situation must be pretty dire. So expect advanced age, health conditions, body mutilations, etc. Not that these things prevent a cat from being a great cat! But you should know that these are your only options. Not the cute kittens running around the various cat cafes all over town, all exclusively provided by Kitten Rescue. Those are reserved for upper middle class families with large homes and very few hours spent at work and no limits on what they'll spend on lifetime vet bills (if you think I must be exaggerating here, I encourage you to take a look at their adoption questionnaires) But wait. What if you argue your case to them? Surely they'll consider your individual experience, take into account testimonials from your family, friends, vet and landlord, won't they? There's no harm in at least asking them to consider making an exemption to their (poorly-disclosed) policies, isn't there? Reason must sometimes prevail, right? Well... you'll get closure at least. When they tell you to seek adoption services elsewhere. No cat for you. Not from them. I respect that they believe they care about their cats. I wish they could extend some of that empathy to all the humans that walk through their doors. Not just the ones they happen to personally like. Until that day never comes, avoid this rescue like the plague. You will have your time wasted. You will have your money wasted (if they send you to the cat cafes to view the cats you're interested in; yes you have to pay to meet the available cats). You will be shamed. You will be heartbroken. You will be discriminated against (and unfortunately, you won't have much recourse as they are very good at CYA, plus the nature of what they do gives them leeway to legally discriminate and just say its for other reasons). After this experience, I no longer judge people who go to breeders. Compared to Kitten Rescue, it's the more humane option. read more

Happy one-year anniversary to our lovely little black kitten, Ringo!! We are so grateful for Kitten Rescue LA for this little guy and we have absolutely fallen in love with him with each passing day. The fact that we let the rescue basically choose our cat out of several we were open to adopt, and bringing him home was really a wonderful way of letting the kitten pick us. By not choosing a cat based on outward appearances or superficial differences, we got a scrawny little black kitty who really has never grown much -- but is the best behaved, most confident, sweetest, smartest cat I've ever owned. Ringo doesn't know how small he is. He's definitely the leader of my two cats, even though my older cat outweighs him by at least 8 or 9 pounds. These two have really bonded so beautifully, and my older cat Peanut has become more affectionate and relaxed. This companionship was exactly what he needed. I highly recommend that you always adopt two cats together-- I have never realized the importance of cats needing each other until I've seen this bond between them grow.I added a video of them grooming and sleeping together, it warms my heart to see how quickly they took to each other. If you introduce cats the right way, I believe there is no cat that can't get along with another. They simply need some time, understanding and patience. Kitten rescue does a fantastic job at making sure each kitty is adopted into a family that fits. The manager Kelly is an absolute gem! She was understanding, more than willing to help, and educational throughout the entire process. My partner and I live in an apartment and she helped find a solution to ensure our windows were safe enough to bring our little guy home. I cannot recommend Kitten Rescue enough, the process is a bit lengthy but necessary to make sure both parties are a perfect fit. We could not be happier with the kitty we adopted formerly named Herbert (now named Winston)! He is a our dream cat. Just FYI rescue cats usually take some time to adjust into their new homes but it is so worth it watching them get more and more comfortable and their personalities blossoming. The staff and volunteers were all very kind and helpful as well. We got introduced to many of the kitties at the sanctuary and fell in love with our sweet boy. Rescued a kitten that they claimed to to be 8 months. Took kitten to the vet, and they said she actually might be between 8 months and a year and half old. Asked the foster if said kitten has any medical issues, and foster said no medical issues. Bought kitten home, and she has explosive diarrhea for three days. Found blood in her watery poop on the third day, and took her to the vet. Vet told us she has a Giardia infection. ~$200 vet bill for the test, test for our resident cat to make sure he didn't get infected (thank god he didn't), medication, and retest. Vet also informed us that she has pretty severe gingivitis, which is surprising since she's supposedly 8 months old. Another ~$350 for x-rays, treatment, and dental cleaning. I pray this kitten doesn't have any other surprise health issues that Kitten Rescue did not informed us about. Emailed them, and their excuse is that they didn't know about the Giardia. Well, a little advice for potential adopters: ask the rescue if the pets you're adopting has a negative full fecal exam, not just for worms. And always separate your new pet from you resident pets until you can take the new one to the vet. Learned the hard way that you can never be too careful when bringing home a new pet and introducing animals. Gave them back one star since they refunded our adoption fee. Another star cuz we love our new kitty and she's the sweetest. We couldn't bear to let her go and would rather just take care of her ourselves. But as adopters, it would be nice to be able to make an informed choice, instead of going through the stress of surprise medical issues and bills right off the bat. And we were so scared that our resident cat would be infected. Good thing we separated them. read more

Kept getting the run around with cats that are good with dogs, felt like they were stringing us along and they got slightly passive aggressive when we kept asking and following up on THEIR suggestions. Very confused as why we were denied so many times while they had other cats repeatedly returned. Maybe some fosters are homophobic? This place is more than a rescue. My roommate and I foster kittens through KR and I cannot say enough positive things. 1. They are extremely helpful to their foster families. They provide us with guidance, donated items, and support. 2. The sanctuary and nursery are awesome! The sanctuary (where they have most of their cats) is SUPER clean, aesthetically pleasing, and organized. The cats are HAPPY. It is so different from any shelter I have seen. In the nursery they have their "CH Cats" (from what I understand it is like the kitty version of CP) who are so well taken care of. 3. My husband and I had a fantastic experience adopting our kitty from Kitten Rescue! One day my boss sent me a link to the profile of a cat at Kitten Rescue and told me, "I found your cat!" I had been talking about the type of cat we wanted and the one she sent, named Georgie, was perfect. His profile indicated that he was an 11-year-old FIV+ (but otherwise healthy) kitty who was very relaxed and ready for a calm home. We've had our hearts set on bringing home a senior kitty both because their demeanor is far more predictable and because no one else seems to want to bring a senior home. I showed the profile to my husband and we completed the application, which is really detailed to ensure your home and lifestyle are suitable for a cat in general and the one you're interested in. We heard back from Georgie's foster mom Joan within 24 hours, letting us know she received our application and wanted to have a preliminary chat. We discussed what he needed, our home situation, etc, and she happily answered all my questions about him. I mentioned that my husband may be allergic but that we still loved him so we wanted to put some measures in place to keep the allergies in check, and Joan was on board. After chatting with Joan, she went back to KR to let them know about our conversation and we scheduled a FaceTime with her and Georgie. In an ideal world I know we'd arrange an in-person meetup, but alas, I respect that KR has put measures in place to keep foster parents and potential adoptees safe from COVID-19. We were able to see Georgie living his life, and we showed Joan our living space so she could assess if it would be suitable for his needs. Joan mentioned that KR waives the adoption fee for senior kitties, and that if the adoption didn't work out, we were always welcome to bring him back to KR, no questions asked, to ensure that he gets rehomed appropriately instead of ending up on the street or in an otherwise bad situation. I appreciate that the rescue is committed to the cat for the duration of their life! From there, Joan sent us the adoption agreement; once we signed it she had his profile pulled from the website. She was very patient with our timing for welcoming him home and when the day came she not only brought him, she allowed us to keep the carrier and gave us a bag of food she just bought for him plus some of his favorite toys. She also came with all his medical records, which was so helpful to bring to the vet. She was so sweet and kind in her goodbye to him and even followed up with us a few days later with some info from KR on vaccinations and overall to see how he was doing. I can tell she was really committed to making sure he found the right home! I really love that Kitten Rescue involves foster parents in the adoption process--after all, the foster spends so much time with the cat and is heavily invested in them, so they have a great idea of what would be a good home. Georgie is adapting fantastically in our home and is behaving just as described in his profile: he is generally quiet and calm, is incredibly well-behaved in the carrier, loves playtime, and is sweet without being overly needy. We are so glad that KR gave him another chance at a good life, found him a great foster, and allowed us to take him in as our forever kitty! I noticed that some negative reviews of KR are related to the experience with foster parents. KR, please do your best to hang on to foster parents like Joan so more experiences sound like mine than others'! read more

I adopted a beautiful kitten from this place after my kitty passed away... I waited and I wanted a particular kind of cat... A gray kitten. They sent me pictures of newborns and I picked the one I wanted from a photo and when I went to go visit the kittens weren't large enough to adopt at that point and I saw the one that I picked... And I had to wait still because it did not weigh enough. Then I got the kitty and what a beautiful kitty... My kitty came spayed, the spaying part of it was part of the adoption fee. I was so happy with my kitty that I recommended them for a friend for a kitty to adopt. What a cutie the second kitty was and my friend wound up not adopting it... And I said if she doesn't adopt it I'll take it...and now I have two beautiful kitties from this place and Susan was great at helping me coordinate with picking up and dropping off and especially getting them neutered My second kitty weighed enough and came neutered but the first kitty didn't weigh enough so we had to wait. Really, really appreciative of my experience at Kitten Rescue. It is very evident that this organization is dedicated to saving cats and providing a loving place for them until they are adopted or not. We told them what kind of personality in a cat we were looking for, and they were very thoughtful about pointing out certain cats that could maybe be a good fit. Toward the end of our visit my partner and I hadn't happened to feel that "perfect" feeling about any of the cats, but on our way out a cat yelled at us (complaining about having just had a bath). It was honestly so cute it stopped us in our tracks. I'm not really one to pay attention to "signs," but it felt like a moment out of a movie. I walked in one day and all the ladies who work there where immediately rude and unapproachable. I saw this one cat that I feel in love with she was deaf and has been at the rescue for 2 years because no one wanted to adopt her. I put in an application for her an was sent an email saying since I was only 18 I probably would end up getting rid of her because I'm "too young". There requirements are ridiculous. I ended up having to adopt a cat from a different rescue and that rescue did not give me as much problems as they did. Please don't adopt from here these people are rude and super intimidating for no reason. I have added an email photo that they sent me with the reasonings why they won't let me adopt the cat. The owners response to my review was really rude.!! You see how rude these people are? also who cares when I visited your rescue that does not matter?? I adopted 2 brothers who were 3 months old. I went to one of their on-site adoptions at a local pet store (PetSmart or PetCo). They had a huge zippered enclosure set up with seats and toys and over a dozen kittens inside. My philosophy is the cat chooses you. They let me know fees up front and that if you have no cats already they only allow adoptions of 2 or more at the same time so the baby isn't lonely. They did a virtual/facetime walk thru of my home with my adult son. I don't have a perfect home, it's older and cluttered, but it's good enough for us and for them. I sat playing with various kittens until one saw me, made a beeline for me, climbed up into my lap, head butted my chin, then curled up and promptly fell asleep. His brother looked around, saw what was going on, ran over and climbed into my lap whereupon he too fell fast asleep, curled up with his brother. The rescuer said, "Well! They picked you." At 3 months old they had all but 1 shot (due at 4 months), were neutered, chipped, and box-trained. Kitten Rescue wrote down what foods they were used to (important to use the same food to avoid tummy upsets) and even gave us some to take with us til we could buy it ourselves. The kitties are lovely fellows! And they still curl up on my lap after head butts! I would definitely recommend going to an on-site adoption. I adopted one of my cats here over the summer from a foster worker named Linda. We originally found a kitten on petfinder.com and contacted the person from Kitten Rescue. She wrote back right away, was super up front, and offered to have us visit and meet the kitty. Things went great and a few days later we adopted a little snowshoe Siamese. She was socialized so wonderfully.. spent a lot of time with other cats in the foster home, had lots of attention, and was very sweet despite coming from a rough start living outside. This place is legitimate and the people who volunteer really care about the animals. When we got our kitten she was already microchipped, vaccinated, de-wormed, and spayed. We already had a 5 year old cat and were given a lot of great advice about introducing the two kitties.. they get along wonderfully now so I guess we got lucky. Over the years, we have adopted 3 cats from Kitten Rescue, including one that had some minor health issues. Kitten Rescue was very professional and all 3 of our adopted cats brought us great joy over the years. We adopted our most recent during Covid, and managed to arrange the adoption with minimal contact. We did a zoom interview with Cynthia and she was great. I cannot recommend this organization enough. Every one we've dealt with from Kitten Rescue has been warm and caring and their sole concern is that the animal is going to a great home. read more

I tried to adopt a kitten from here and it's clear they don't work for the benefit of the animal. It should never be that hard to adopt a kitten that needs a home, if you're going to do so, choose a different organization that actually care about their customer and finding their kittens a great home. read more

Just visited and walked thru their whole facility and wow I've never seen a better run facility for cats all of them have space to hangout and the staff there were so nice to all the cats they def encourage adopting in pairs of two but I have my sight set on a older cat that's okay with being by herself named Finley the kitties were adorable and most over 4 months old which is a very healthy age to adopt where as most shelters push out 2 month old kitties I can tell that the staff and managers are passionate about finding the cats good forever homes and I feel to fortunate to have found this place read more

I've adopted two cats from Kitten Rescue, about 9 months apart, and I absolutely adore them. I was very impressed with how Kitten Rescue cares for their cats. With my second one, which I got from their partner Tail Town, I was really worried that she wouldn't get along with my first cat and Chris emailed me back and forth during the whole process! She answered all questions I had and followed up on a daily basis to ensure that both the cat and I were happy. They truly care for their cats and I love that. Honestly, I don't want to write a bad review for people been rescuing cats from street. But I think what they been doing is discouraging people adopting those poor kittens. Overall they are not helping those poor cats. I don't think they really caring those kittens. This is my first cat adoption. Submitted 3 applications to kittens rescue, got 2 interviews. ( maybe no one applies) one with Kristin another with Angela. Both were bad experience. First one with Kristin, everything went smoothly till she let me wait for the application ahead me responding which she been contacted with no response at all. In such case, you should pass it to next application without hesitation. Because you already contacted me and the previous one had no intention to proceed. She keep saying, we need find the best of best of best fit. Yeah, no problem, you do best for kittens. But that doesn't mean you can set up me as backup and wast my time and energy. By the way, during the FaceTime, I noticed those kittens unfamiliar or unrecognize her. It's like first time meet her. Second one with Angela, same, apparently kittens were not familiar with her or her partner. She has no idea how old was the kittens. For kittens sake, home check, and some check, no problem. But they started to ask some questions made me feel uncomfortable and unnecessary. such as where am I working. And questioning my home address made me feel like I using fake address, etc. at that point, I didn't want to adopt from them. Both experience made me reconsider adopt kittens from those so call volunteers shelter. They are not rude, but they are that type of people that insult you politely read more

I am so grateful to Kitten Rescue for bringing my beautiful new cat, Cody, into my life. The COVID-19 pandemic made my desire for a four-legged friend all the more evident. As I searched for a cat online at AdoptaPet.com, I was struck by Cody's special profile. His foster mom did a perfect job of describing his sweet, curious personality. It's clear that Kitten Rescue recruits excellent people to foster their animals. Cody's foster mom is very knowledgable about cats and she was very thorough in assessing me and my home. Initially, we had a few comprehensive conversations about Cody, as well as my own history of having pets, and then she made a home visit to assess Cody's potential future environment. (She and I were both masked and stayed socially distant, of course! Kudos to her and Kitten Rescue for following current recommended health practices.) Ultimately, I was lucky enough to be selected to provide Cody with his forever home. He's settled in quite well and enjoys belly rubs, seafood feasts, and staring out the window at the birds and squirrels in the neighborhood.
