I bought the ultracraft apex melamine cabinets for my kitchen remodel. I got a faulty quality. They started totally shredding in 6 mos. They are supposed to be lifetime guarantee but they are not. Gary has been extremely unresponsive to me. He just doesn't return any calls or emails. I had a friend interested in working with him and they had an appointment with Gary and they brought up my situation. He said he would make good. He finally emailed me back after they brought it up. 6 months go by and I sent him the photos of the faulty quality and after checking in weekly I get this email today from Gary. "I talked with my factory rep and he talked with the factory to come up with this offer. They agreed to send replacement doors/drawer fronts for anything you want at a 50% discount off of my cost. I did the math and that comes out to aprox $ 525.00 your cost for the kitchen fronts and $ 265.00 for the bath doors/drawer fronts based on the drawings that you sent. Had a good experience with Gary at Kitchensync - at a time when I had all but given up on getting a nice quartz vanity top installed in my bathroom. Years ago, I had a job interview for a consulting firm that put me up in a Sofitel with a gorgeous marble vanity top in the bathroom. Ever since, I'd dreamed that someday, I would own or rent a house with something so nice. After buying a home that desperately needed bathroom repair, I decided to implement the dream. But I soon learned that marble is not the easiest thing to maintain. Quartz is a more expensive but low maintenance high durability option, but it's notoriously difficult to find quartz that looks convincingly like marble. I Googled the heck out of it and visited several stores that sell countertops, and obtained a dozen samples. Of these, easily one of them looked the most like marble: Athena by Vadara. (Vadara also makes a Carrara and Statuario Venato which have less and more veining, respectively. Caesarstone makes some marble lookalikes that were good second place options.) Anyway, I got quotes to do my vanity top in Vadara from two places I found that carried it, and they were about the same price and... ridiculously high, because they demand that you pay the full installed cost of a massive slab of the stuff (well over $3000!) even if you just need 8 square feet of it. Not sure what to do, I called Vadara's local distributor, who told me "no problem, call Gary at Kitchensync." I did, and Gary gave me a reasonable quote (including a special seasonal discount on an installed sink) for what I needed. After seeing the positive Yelp reviews, it was an easy decision to go with him. A crew came out to measure my space, Gary sent me a drawing and some sink options to confirm, and a week or so later another crew came by to do the installation. One thing could have gone better. My particular bathroom does not have space for a perfectly rectangular vanity, because it fits into a 109 year old house whose bathroom vanity cabinet was not perfectly rectangular - in my case, a bit trapezoidal: the sink could be even with the front edge of the vanity or the three walls - but not both. The diagram I approved didn't show a sink and I assumed, incorrectly, that it would be even with the three walls. When the installers showed up with the finished piece, the sink looked "off." I panicked a bit and asked if they could shave all four edges to fix it... they said no because it would change all the dimensions which would be too risky. Rather than stop the whole project for an expensive redo (for Gary or me), I let it be. My friends and fiance all thought it looked good enough as it was, so I decided not to fight it. I strategically located a soap dispenser which obscures the disagreement of the sink with the walls, and over time, I've decided the vanity looks pretty great. But next time, I would definitely want to see that sink on the diagram before I approve it. So I would still work with Gary at Kitchensync. He was very polite and responsive when booking the job, and his crews were very diligent and professional. read more

The short version: Gary did an excellent job helping us with our kitchen design, and the products are great! I'd use him for another project again in a heartbeat. The long version: We were doing an entire house remodel, and went to KitchenSync for advice on how to arrange our kitchen to maximize the space while keeping a very clean, modern feel. Gary put together a great design right after the first meeting. We tweaked it several times over the next couple of weeks. Gary was always friendly and helpful, even when we called with more changes. In the end, we selected Ultracraft Thermofoil cabinets in wenge pattern (a dark color) with two different tones of Caesarstone (blizzard and nougat). We love the design, and have found our kitchen to be the most functional we've ever lived in. Gary also helped us with cabinets for our master and guest bathrooms, giving us a semi-custom product that looks custom built. While we had a minor issue with some of the hinges from the manufacturer (we didn't like how they functioned even though they worked as planned), Gary went to bat for us, and got us what we needed. We'd highly recommend him to anyone. My dad was our General Contractor and he also had a wonderful experience working with Gary. Gary had wonderful ideas, helped with the layout and helped us visualize the design with his renderings. Everything came out better than we could have imagined. Gary was responsive, answered all of our questions and called us back quickly when we had more questions (I always had questions). He also came to our house several times to either help with measurements, help answer assembly questions for my dad or drop off items to help in our installation process. We also ordered all our hardware and countertops from Gary. The countertop fabricator he uses is also wonderful!! We got several cabinet and countertop estimates and we found Gary's prices to be extremely fair, the cabinet and countertop quality to be solid and his customer service exceptional. Gary at Kitchensync on Church St is a meticulous and creative problem solver! That is what we learned when we hired him to design and install new kitchen cabinets and counters in a small kitchen in a very old house. When he came to the house to look at the space he had a number of ideas, some of which involved moving walls which would have really opened up the space, but more of a time and money commitment than we wanted. The idea we picked was to move the refrigerator to a place in the room it had never been before! (much cheaper!) That simple move opened up the kitchen, and allowed the cabinetry to follow. He listened to us, helped us with colors, referred us to a great tile place for backsplash-(Ceramic Tile design on 13th St) -and arranged a visit to the warehouse in Hayward to look at slab colors for the Quartz counters. He came up with an interesting design idea to have a different color counter at the bar area (we used a remnant), which looks simply fantastic! The layout was meticulous, and there were no measurement issues when the cabinets were installed. The contractor had a few questions along the way- Gary was very responsive, and he and the contractor communited with mutual respect. My kitchen is a dream-not fancy, but so functional which is what we were going for! Gary is in the neighborhood which was also fantastic. His showroom is small but mighty. We are currently in the process of picking out kitchen & bathroom cabinets for our remodel & I was recommended to Kitchensync by a friend. I called & was able to set an appointment up w/Gary at the Noe location no problem. We then met with Gary & had a very pleasant talk about what we were looking for & what type of dimensions we're working with. He said he would draw up some plans & provide us with a few estimates and email them to us within a week. This was in the middle of Sept. We never heard back from him. I even sent him an email about 2 weeks after our meeting to check & see how things were going and no response. Needless to say, we had to find a new cabinet designer to work with on our project. I was very disappointed by this experience; I was very envious of all the people who raved about Gary and Kitchensync, I guess our kitchen just wasn't in sync with him. :( read more

We bought our Ultracraft kitchen cabinets and Caesarstone quartz countertop from Jeff and he was awesome! Our cabinets are beautiful, we are so happy with them. When they first arrived, some of them were damaged (Ultracraft's fault, not Jeffs) and Jeff was on vacation but Gary (owner and manager at the SF location) was sooo helpful. He exchanged all of them out immediately and took care of it. The prices were extremely reasonable and competitive with other places we shopped at (especially the quartz countertops). We would definitely recommend them and use them again in the future. read more

Our architect sent us here for our kitchen remodel. We showed up at 10am, their posted open hours, to a post-it note saying they'd open at 10:30. So we waited. At 10:40, a guy showed up to post a new note saying they would open at 11, and that he couldn't see us until 4:30pm that day. I said that didn't work, and he told us he was super busy, and he sent me away. No exchanging contact info or offer to set up a future appointment. This review is about 10 months late but Yelpers need to know that Gary is awesome. We bought a new house last year which needed a complete kitchen redo ripping out everything back to the studs. I had read the reviews in Yelp and we headed down to see Gary. Not really knowing at all what we wanted to do - we were really just looking for ideas - but Gary was immediately helpful throwing some great suggestions out at us. We arranged for him to come up to the house to measure up the kitchen. The kitchen space wasn't exactly large and we were planning to knock out a wall through to the dining room but Gary took it all in his stride and within a couple of days he had come up some great plans for the kitchen. He was then very patient with us while we decided on cabinet finishes and countertop. He steered us towards some great cabinets which had maximum flexibility for sizing and that had a great discount on them. Once we'd decided on the kitchen cabinet finish he let us borrow one of his show room doors to go and compare against countertops and tiles so we could make sure everything matched. Anyway, to cut a long story short, our kitchen is awesome. The pricing I felt was very competitive and the service far superior to what you would get at Home Depot, etc. I think Gary put together a design which maximized countertop space, put the appliances in the best places and minimized dead space. Very disappointing service from a very nice man. I paid "rush" charge (and an extra $300) so that my cabinets would arrive before my vacation. Alas, they arrived with no shelves, many holes drilled in the wrong places, and mismatched shades of white (oddly, white is not simply white when it comes to kitchen cabinets). This was over 2 months ago. I finally got some shelves, but the wrong size - again, a mismatch with the existing cabinets I was trying to "match." Basically, the whole process has been an expensive (nearly $3000) nightmare. I will seek out one of the many other kitchen-cabinet dealers in the future to complete this project. I would advise other potential customers to do the same. read more

We are currently in the process of using these guys for two kitchen redo's. Dawna at the Noe location has been fantastic as we changed our design about 10 times. They were able to provide great advice. I do think their prices are a little high, but their store is right by our house and it's been super convenient to just be able to pop in and get questions answered, etc. I'd rather pay more than be ignored at the Home Despot. I'll update if things change through the install process, but so far so good. I will say we went to the Richmond location to look at cabinets once and they were not nearly as friendly or helpful. This is a very good local store. I received excellent design service from Dawna and great follow-up service from everyone. Gary even came to my house after installation to look into a drawer that wasn't sliding smoothly. Many of my neighbors have used this store and were happy with the results. For those who compare the cabinetry here to Home Depot, ask any good contractor -- Home Depot offers some of the same brand names, but the quality is far inferior (Lowes is supposedly better if you're going for cheap). If you want cheap (and service to match, in my experience), go to Home Depot. I price compared for similar quality to what Kitchen Sync offers and was delighted that Kitchen Sync offered better prices. For good quality, mid-range, reasonably priced cabinets, this is a great place to go. read more

The design was pure genius. We were on a really low budget and he went out of his way to find us the best deals possible for cabinets, appliances and contractor recommendation, and you would never know it was low budget when you look at it, in fact, it is stunningly beautiful. Called Gary in S.F. who said the first step was to come in for an appointment. I came in and fortunately, he had designs from my neighbor's kitchen, which is the exact same layout as mine. It seemed everything was well -- he was helpful there. 2 weeks later I had received nothing. I e-mailed him to check back and there was no response. Warning to yelpers that follow up may be spotty at this space. I'd like to give one star, but to be (probably excessively fair) he was helpful in his design studio, even though it turned out to be a total waste of my time, since he failed to follow up. read more

After putting it off for years, we finally embarked on a remodel of our kitchen, which was last remodeled in the '70's. (Think formica and parquet.) Friends had recently gone through a very painful, very expensive remodel of their kitchen that had lasted 6 months. We were determined not to endure that kind of experience. We talked to 2 contractors, an architect and a kitchen designer before we found Gary at KitchenSync. What a great find! Gary did all the design work, revising as we requested, often, on-the-fly while we watched and talked. He had better ideas for the kitchen than the very expensive architect and designers. And he stayed in our budget. I can't imagine getting this done without him. Even as we made changes well into the project, Gary was supportive and helpful. It is probably not unusual among his customers that we see Gary more as a friend now than as the guy we got cabinets and counters from. We are mid-way now in the work. The cabinets look great.
