I cannot believe this place actually exists. While eating the traditional deep dish pizza, I had to stop and confirm that Kitchen 17 is actually vegan, because dang, it tasted legit. I have never actually had deep dish pizza before, since I have lived in Hawaii my whole life, but my befriend said it was spot on. The traditional pizza had layers of meat (beef crumble and pepperoni), cheese, and sauce. Their cheese didn't have that vegan fake cheese consistency and flavor that I am personally not a fan of. This cheese was perfect and creamy. Their Mac and cheese deep dish was also amazing. A creative item that made my taste buds dance. Definitely go here for your deep dish needs....even though they are moving and may be closed for a little. read more

This place is amazing. I haven't felt as verbose lately, preferring rather to distill my experiences at any place into one sentence. I don't think that will be possible for Kitchen 17! I first heard of Kitchen 17 because my friend in the Twin Cities (Minnesota) orders the pizza to be sent to him there. I looked on the website, and they do indeed ship pizzas all the way up to us, somehow using dry ice to accomplish that feat. However, upon viewing the menu, I knew that I would need to try it in person. My partner, an avid fan of deep dish, agreed. Luckily, we were heading to Chicago the following weekend. I'm very glad that we tried the deep dish pizza here. We ordered 2, and could easily have only ordered one pizza for the three of us! They were large and very filling. I also had the house salad, which was quite delicious. The jalapeno popper pizza does use the medium spicy jalapenos, which gives it a nice kick. We also tried the traditional deep dish, which was really standard date, but absolutely delicious also. I will definitely be making the trek to see them again, hopefully before they move! We have liked the pizza, especially the fully loaded, although the wife is not a fan of the cheese, but I like the Creaminess. I think the pizza is unique and delicious. We are less fans of those sandwiches. It seems hit or miss. The several times we had it, the gyros doesn't have nearly enough meat. Also not enough vegetables, and it in the end has nothing to do with a gyros and shouldn't be called a gyros, but a pita wrap, and then not a very good one. One time the Philly cheesesteak was delicious full of meat and cheesy. Today it was very disappointing. Not nearly enough meat, all bread, no substance. Hard to believe it's the same restaurant. Y'all! If the hardest part of going dairy free is the thought of having limited, tasty pizza options...FRET NOT! I mean who doesn't love a good pizza?! I'm Chicago born and raised. I ordered a personal deep dish pizza with all the ingredients (onions, bell peppers, mushroom and black olives) I'd usually get from HRI. First bite and I was like, Home Run Inn who?! That pizza was so damn good, y'all! It was so flavorful. I didn't expect for the cheese to be as melted as it was. I was kinda expecting an off putting taste and texture I've experienced with other vegan cheeses. There was a perfect balance between the veggies, sauce and cheese. The only thing I will say is that the pizza was bit too salty. I'll ask if it can be prepared with less seasoning on the veggies, next time. Because I'm definitely going back. If I'd known the pizza was this good, I would've been getting my pizza fix on here. I'd pick Kitchen 17 over HRI, even if I weren't seeking a vegan pizza. HRI can't hold a candle to Kitchen 17 because they'd be blown out. So, so it looks like I'm a deep dish girl after all. I also got a dessert and it's so good and sooooo rich! In town from denver and stopped in here before other plans nearby. The male bartender (long hair) was so condescending and would complain about other customers at the bar where customers are sitting. Visited on my trip to Chicago and this was my first joint on our list to check out. Inside is dark and manned by literally one person. She's also the bartender as well. She's got a lot of work to do! We ordered the artichoke dip which the size was very big, love that pita bread came with it and it wasn't too bad. My wife surprisingly ordered the gyro which is out of her norm and she absolutely loved it. In fact she still can't stop talking about that gyro to this day. I believe it's the best gyro she's ever had. Cocktails and mock tails that we had weren't very good in fact I couldn't even finish it and I drink anything with alcohol. I had the deep dish pizza which was a no brainer for me. Really looked forward to it, however the consistency of it wasn't very good. Very messy, didn't hold well. I had only had a slice at the restaurant and when I let it sit in the fridge at our Airbnb it held much better and was very good as leftovers. The place was okay but it just wasn't mind blowing. Ordered frozen deep dish pizza delivered through UPS. The pizza delivered safe and sound and still frozen, which I was happy. Loved the service in providing cooking instructions that were tailored for different options of how you can cook the pizza, and wasn't just bake at 400 for 40 minutes. But more importantly, the pizza was delicious! The sauce was some of the best I have ever had, crust was tasty and the vegan cheese which usually is my least favorite thing was actually better than most. I ordered the chicken sandwich with fries and everything was cold, the bread was soggy, and honestly the food didn't even taste good. I took one bite and couldn't not take another. I tried speaking to someone on the phone to issue a refund because I was very displeased but they only offered to come back and order something else. No thank you, I loss my appetite and felt sick. I ordered pizza last night for delivery and the food was not good if I was thinking of what pizza usually tastes like. I didn't mind the taste if I threw out the idea of how pizza "should" taste. I do wonder if this had to do with me ordering delivery on an evening that was around 5° F outside. The pizza arrived pretty warm though, not hot but also not cold. I do wondering if the cold weather affected the food. I spent around $40 after delivery and tip for one 12 inch vegan pepperoni pizza with GF crust. This pizza was definitely not worth that much money, but I was so hungry and being vegan makes it hard to find many places that cater to me. I ordered here for the first time this past weekend. While everything was tasty, I was a little disappointed on both sandwiches ordered. First, the gyro had ranch on it even though I'd asked for it on the side. I'm vegetarian, so not opposed to dairy and had some super delish tzatziki to put on it, but it was already pretty full of ranch. Second, the Philly cheesesteak had no peppers or onions! It was a tasty sandwich, but it wasn't a cheesesteak. Peppers and onions are essential, and I've actually ordered a cheesesteak sans meat before just for the grilled peppers, onions, and cheese--super yum. Came in for deep dish after stopping in Chicago driving across the country. One of the more enjoyable places I've ever ate at. The pizza was probably the best vegan pizza I've ever eaten, and it's a go to in new cities being a vegan, so I've tried a lot. The vegan cheese they make in house made all the difference compared to the processed vegan cheese's out there. Jennie was so warm and welcoming and it felt like I was talking to somebody I knew for years. It was truly unique and super appreciated. It was a hard restaurant to spot as the sign was some hanging banner that did not stick out. It's a self-service place where you have to get your own utensils, and grab your own waters yourself in plastic cups but they had paper straws. My husband was practically my waiter going back and forth refilling our drinks. That place was different than most others. The food came out quick which was a positive. The forks were dirty and so I asked for some new ones. It's not a great place to bring your elderly parents to. It was unpleasant service, server didn't come out to check on us right away. She was gone in the back for a long time. my husband tipped 20% because they make you sign it right in front of them while they hold the device for you to pay.
