valet parking is located right at the entrance

I stayed at this hotel during a recent business trip. I was originally a bit nervous because one hears so many bad things about Oakland. However, my stay at this hotel was delightful. The hotel was beautiful and modern. My room was also trendy modern and had a very relaxing vibe. It had a mini bar, a coffee machine and nice quality toiletries. There is also a gym where you can also find a purified water fountain where you can refill your bottle. The hotel is located close to restaurants where you can walk to. The street where the hotel is located is safe and very clean. They also have Valet parking, at $66 per day (with taxes) and In-N-Out privileges. However, once I had my car parked by the valet, I never drove while I was staying at this hotel because I was concerned about break-ins. Since I was part of a larger group and we would go out dining in the evenings, for transportation we would use Uber because there are many locations in Oakland, where it is not safe to park your car because it might get broken into. We also have some nice group dinners at Drake's and at Nido's garden. This was a nice change from our usual stays at San Francisco hotels. The staff at the Kissel was also very attentive. I enjoyed meeting the older gentleman who helps with the luggage storage, he cracks very funny jokes! I would definitely come back to this hotel, overall a very good experience.

I was in the neighborhood and stopped by this spot for a drink. The ambiance was amazing, definitely a place to take cute photos. The bartender and server were super friendly and attentive. My cocktail was good but 30 bucks for a margarita was not something I would do on a regular.

I had higher hopes for this hotel. It is in a prime area which is great. I called about valet before hand and its around $55 car $75 bigger thats crazy knowing the risk of parking in that area. I will say the lobby and restaurant/bar is nice. The front desk was really nice as welll. My reservation needed to be changed and they assisted quickly. They do charge you a resort fee i believe its $17 but $10 you get to spend on drinks or snacks my one iced tea was $10. But still makes sense to use it. The room was pretty small for a king. I did like the shower. I get using colored makeup towels but mines did look like they had bleach on them. Some of the furniture looked dated. They do provide water in the room since they have a refillable station thats a plus.OMG the refrigerator was so small i couldnt fit my apple juice in there. I just wish the rooms were as upscale as the lobby.

Somewhat mini city view lol nighttime

I stayed here for 2 days. Overall it was a nice experience. The front desk staff were very friendly and accommodating especially when I was asked to extend my stay for another day. If it is your first time ever at the hotel they give you these coupon cards for a certain percentage off the drinks. Also another coupon was for a bag next door. Unfortunately I did not go get a drink since I was alone (social drinker here), so I'm not sure if the drinks are good or not. The room was spacious since it was just me and neat. Now the AC did take awhile to kick in, so you may want to crack a window open. It wasn't much helpful to do that since it's summertime in the bay. You need your key card to work the elevator. Also they require a deposit so if you booked with a third party you would still need to pay a deposit. I believe the deposit was around 150-165 if I'm not mistaken. I admit I'm not too much familiar with the bay but this hotel was around some eateries. I do suggest maybe having a car for more conveniency opposed to walking. I'll stay here again, the only downfall was how long it took the AC to kick in because I was baking like a baked potato in the room for some time. I'm not sure if it was because it was hot overall and everyone had the AC running at the same time or what. I would stay here again. I like the location and also the room overall I had a "mini city view somewhat", for the price it wasn't bad to me.

    Beautiful night from my patio!

Exceptional hotel in Oakland. Maybe I'm biased, but I was upgraded to a lovely room (I booked a king) with what I would call a patio on the 3rd floor. The fitness center is on this floor and if I was to be disappointed with anything it would be that for hotel of this size and location there were only 2 treadmills. Otherwise, the staff were super. The restaurant had really good food. The rooms were very clean and the bed was really comfy! The hotel also has water refill stations throughout! Loved that! I Lyft so I can't speak for parking! I have to come back here regularly and will definitely stay here again.

Went to see a show at the paramount, which is a quick walk from the Kissel. We found the hotel to be nice and clean and the people were nice. We didn't have drinks or food so can't touch on that. I would stay there again if I'm Oakland. Parking was pricey but convenient.

With the limited time that I stayed at Kissel I only needed to interact with the lobby employees and valet a few times. I will say this, the hotel is aesthetically pleasing and a hit for those that want a place so close to the heart of Oakland but the service was only subpar. During check in, I can see the difference in service because I was next to an older gentlemen that was possibly staying a few nights. The employee went through everything, the "rooftop bar" and their hours, the breakfast in the lobby (Otto's), and other amenities that the hotel had to offer. The lady that checked me in rarely spoke to me. In fact, when she handed me the door cards she didn't even tell me what room I was in or even told me anything about their wifi. When I inquired about the room number she said that it was written on the sleeve of the cards. Never did she tell me where the elevators were, nor did she say what time check out was, and I was a bit in disbelief with how little effort she put into her service. The room was clean, I'll give you that. The bathroom was large and spacious. I sure did love the shower. But I still couldn't shake the lack of courtesy from the front staff. The valet was great. The guys were very friendly and we were able to get our vehicle within a timely matter during check out. Would I stay again? Maybe if I shelled out $800/night I'll get better service. However, even if I did spent $300/night I should receive just the same hospitality during check in as anyone else because the industry is HOSPITALITY. Also, the "Rooftop bar" isn't on top of the Kissel. It's actually around the corner on the second floor. I didn't realize this until I spoke with another visitor and was a little disappointed with the lackluster view.

They actually had a room ready and let us check in one hour early. To keep this review brief, I decided to just give the pros and cons and add informative photos. Pros: comfy king bed, big closet, large safe, microwave, fridge, keurig, quiet room, open balcony, San Francisco Bay Trail below our balcony, large bath with separate shower, Exercise room with no free weights, Quench water machine, EV chargers, snack/drink machines, morning breakfast/coffee served (worth skipping). Cons: No USB ports in the room?! Hotel is fairly close to the sketchy side of town (homeless camp 200 ft from hotel). No cold bottled water for rewards members, no pool, no airport shuttle, carpeting instead of laminate flooring, paid parking, our thermostat was really glitchy and would not work. Added benefit: your hotel key gains you access to the Executive Inn and Suites next door. There you will find a small pool/hot tub. There's also a small bar that opens at 5pm (happy hour 5:30-7:30) and you can order food as well. A Monday night stay was $325 and they charge $17 a day to park in their lot next to Hwy 880, not in a garage. I thought the rate was fairly high considering it's not the closest hotel to the airport and it's in the sketchy part of town. Check out the photos.

Super close to walk to all the things there, so which we loved. -Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Rooms had a mini fridge and ours had somewhat of a living room situation. -Free breakfast that had quite a bit to offer. Negatives -Bed was extremely firm. I actually woke up sore the next day. -Wall's are very thin. We had some loud neighbors going on late into the night on a Wednesday. -Our room was SO warm. It was really cold out yet no matter how low we turned the thermostat the temperature never got below 74. We are people who like it cool when we sleep so between the firm bed and warm temp we didn't get much sleep. Extra note parking was available on site for $40 or you could parking in the Bay Street garage for $25. Given the positives I think we would give this place another try especially if the thermostat was working.

One con for some people might be that you can hear the music from the event from the lobby to the second floor. I didn't mind it though. I'd stay here again. The most concerning aspect of the situation is the apparent lack of security measures. There are no visible security presence or cameras in the parking area. This leaves guests feeling completely vulnerable. While filing a police report, I was told incidents like this are not uncommon in the area, which makes the absence of basic safety precautions even more absurd. Despite the severity of the situation, the hotel did not provide any meaningful support or reassurance afterward. Safety should be a top priority for any hotel. My checkin experience however proved underwhelming due to visibly unmotivated staff -- including the security guard -- tighten up folks (she was nicer than the receptionist at least)! Past the grandiose & masterfully-designed lobby, navigation gets really complex & unintuitive thanks to the maze-like corridors ‍. Elevators were also slower than drip-coffee but extra roomy which was nice! Tap payment accepted. ROOM [King, City View, Fridge Microwave] -- https://youtu.be/xEqX_8QmGHs The layout was inviting & homey, comfortably accommodating multiple guests in seating & storage. It looked clean, felt clean, & the lighting was excellent -- as were many of the amenities. My biggest complaint with this room was its workspace. The tabletop dimensions were inadequate & the chair lacked good ergonomics. The AC system was also a nightmare; partly on the wall & partly controlled on the terminal unit. ‍ They're still using the flimsy, dirty, paper DnD signs here which is a pet-peeve... BED [King] -- good A recharging sleep experience. This mattress had the perfect balance of firmness & support. Comfortable in every sleep position. Sheets, covers & pillows were not on the same levels of quality, however... A very underwhelming set of dressings for such a fine mattress. Bed-side utility was a notable highlight, featuring generous power access with multiple outlets and USB ports within easy reach. BATH -- great High cleaning standards were on display, illuminating a perfect vanity install in this huge bathroom. The towel staging was also a really nice touch. Sink & shower water pressure were surprisingly weak. Otherwise it was a magnificent shower experience: Zero Degree bath products were provided, temperatures were consistently HOT, & the exhaust system was in peak condition. TV SOLUTION/ACTIVITIES -- ok The room featured an impressive 55" Samsung TV with reliable cable service. Its mount was respectable for the easily accessible ports. Yet, the overall TV solution could be much simpler, particularly regarding the dual-remote system, which was as cumbersome as the AC controls... Audio performance was also subpar, making it a struggle to hear movies at a reasonable volume. Consider packing a Chromecast/GoogleTV. WI-FI & CELL RECEPTION -- bad Free & unencrypted WiFi providing dismal speeds. The wireless infrastructure was awful, with cellular dead zones in places like the bathroom. I wouldn't plan on getting much web surfing/work done in the rooms. --Performance-- Video streaming - average Online gaming - average Video chatting - average --Nerd Stats-- 2-5 Mbps download 10-22 Mbps upload 0% packet loss 15 ms latency 7 ms jitter FOOD & DRINK -- good Not DoorDash friendly. BIGLY Breakfast buffet in the morning Snacks for purchase in-room: microwave (mini) mini-fridge (small) coffee/tea NOISE -- great Perfect sound proofing. LOCATION -- good Smack dab downtown with phenomenal walkability to transit, stores, & eateries. I particularly enjoyed touring the Black Panther party museum & utilizing the nearby WeWork! There's an active security presence, but they were mostly on their mobile . Still the space & surrounding areas felt safe. Valet is $30/day;$50/overnight, while the garage a block away is $24/day. RECOMMENDATION Final Price: $119.98/night Was it worth it? Yes Best part: food & drink Minus the DREADFUL WiFi & apathetic customer service, this was a perfect stay. I seriously hope the wireless infrastructure can be tuned up (along with their training program...). I'd love to return & explore more room types. The rep who checked me out was definitely not very friendly. Pros - Check in and check out were easy and quick. The location to my company was convenient.

We stayed at the Marriott at 988 Broadway in Chinatown. We were greeted by Kenya who was very…read moreaccomodating. She even showed concern that our room might be too far from the elevator (we're in our 70s). I assured her that the walking was good for us. The door man, Biz, was super attentive. Justin who worked at the Bistro really knows customer service. And those are just to name a few. Every single staff person we met greeeted us with a friendly hello. The hotel is very clean, in a great location and even offered a canteen where you could purchase snacks and some frozen meals. We will definitely be back.
