I've had such a wonderful experience living at Neptune Palace Hotel on Webster St in Alameda, and I'm so happy to leave a 5-star review
The location is perfect. Webster has a similar feel to Park Street but is more laid back and relaxed. There are so many amazing food options nearby - sushi, Cambodian, European market (great pastries and snacks), Al-Jazeera Market (really good black olives there), Colombian, pizza, fancy donuts and even farmers markets.
The beach is just a 10-minute walk (I walk fast), which makes it even more special. (Make sure to try delicious dim sum and boba next door and Alameda pizza (the gyro sandwich slaps) next next door - both amazing places with great people!) Grocery outlet is a 5 minute walk away if you need hand soap, shampoo, etc.
Discount city is also great for daily necessities, they have a lot of Pinoy groceries too which is amazing (especially if you love Ube).
Chris and Elle (and Steve too) have been incredibly attentive, kind, and caring landlords. Anytime something needs fixing, Chris and Elle are quick to take care of it. It really makes a difference living somewhere where management genuinely cares. The tenants here are respectful, quiet, and clean, which creates a peaceful living environment.
The shared bathrooms and showers are always well-maintained and in great condition - the upstairs shower was recently remodeled and is very nice. The rooms also include a sink, which makes daily routines like washing your face and brushing your teeth super convenient.
There's a great laundromat (Rags) right down the street that uses a vending card system, no dealing with heavy coins; which makes everything feel easy and efficient.
The Neptune building itself is historic with a lot of charm, which adds to the overall experience. I moved in August 2022 and have loved my time here.
One moment that really stood out to me was when I accidentally dropped my room key down the shower drain. My wonderful neighbor DeeDee immediately stepped in to help and even contacted our landlord on my behalf. Not only that, a few other neighbors came out to check on me when they heard me knocking, making sure I was okay and didn't need help.
It really showed how kind and supportive the community can be when it matters most. At the same time, everyone is very respectful of each other's space; tenants generally keep to themselves, which helps maintain a peaceful and quiet living environment.
If I ever move back to the Bay Area, Neptune will absolutely be one of the first places I check for availability. A few helpful tips: I recommend getting a small vacuum to keep your room tidy, a mini fridge to save on eating out, and a small desk heater since the rooms are about 12x12.
There's one outlet per room, so a safe extension cord is definitely useful.
Overall, this place has been amazing. I couldn't have asked for better landlords or a better living experience. Thank you so much - I will truly miss it here! read more
