I came to Blondie's after a mishap with my former stylist. My hair is naturally dark brown, and I…read morehave been getting it colored with ashy blonde highlights for nearly two decades. My last stylist stripped my hair of its brown low lights, the highlights were nowhere near ashy, it was just a mess. I love the balayage/lived-in look, but because my hair is so dark, I need foils rather than balayage to lift it. This is something I always have to explain to stylists and they typically tell me I'm wrong, proceed to do it anyway, and then I hate it. Not Linh! I showed him a picture of exactly what I was looking for, and he immediately said "okay, we're going to need to do foils, not balayage, because of your hair type and then will do a root smudge." I could have cried. I didn't even have to tell him and he knew; he's simply an expert who speaks the language of hair. Linh was able to restore the ashy blonde highlights AND my natural brown lowlights, which helps so much with dimension and looking more natural. He did such a fantastic job and I will go to him again and again.

One bad thing about moving from SF to DC for work was having to give up my elderly barber of…read moredecades who cut my hair for cheap out of his own apartment. I resent overpaying for haircuts because my needs are very simple (clipper #4 on the top, #1.5 on the sides), so I looked to find a cheap (but good) place in DC. Diego's Hair Salon was buzzing with customers when I stopped by after work tonight. They take credit cards now, so ignore all the old reviews that say they don't. A very kind stylist named Esmi gave me my usual cut quickly and competently, and it only cost $40. When I told her I'd just moved to DC, she said she hoped I found my new salon. "I think I have!"

I've been to Diegos four times. The first time was a while back when they didn't take charge cards,…read morebut the cut was great and much cheaper than the unisex salons I had been to. Diego's specializes in men's haircuts and I ask for it short and they do a bang up job every time. The last two times I went, Maria cut my hair and she was extremely thorough, attentive, and was very detailed! I always walk out of there with zero regrets and feeling like a million bucks! I've had some bad hair experiences at both hifalootin' salons as well as "treat 'em like cattle" places like the Hair Cuttery (really, really botched*) I've found my barbershop: Diego's! *the stylist at The Hair Cuttery chopped my hair so that a tuft stuck out to the side. In a panic, she grabbed a tube of gel, dabbed it on the rogue hair, and said "maybe some glue...?" Needless to say, Diego's operates on a completely different planet of skill and professionalism. And, "maybe some glue...?" has become a kind of catch-all fiasco meme among my friends.
