Outta the Shed - A pair of stained glass accent pieces for $99.

If your home is decorated in one of these styles, stop in. I enjoy browsing Outta the Shed in Plainfied because the staff is so friendly, and the items are clean, quality pieces, and booths are restocked often. The shop smells amazing from the moment you walk in. All types of candles and melts are to the left as you enter and throughout the shop. This trip, I was looking for a few new pieces to refresh my home after removing my Christmas decoration and taking back to storage. My home always feels bare and not as cozy after removing the Christmas decor. My main reason for running around in this bitter cold is to add more greenery, maybe some new artwork (looking for botanicals), and maybe some new throw pillows for additional accent colors. The prices are reasonable, so I can afford to replace smaller accent items when I tire of them. I only picked up two new candles and 3 packages of candle melts today, but I took pictures of several items I could use. The items change often, so I need to pop back in soon after they restock with new items. Affordable, unique pieces, collectibles, antiques, linens, cookware, purses, hats, with a dedicated area for current and vintage jewelry and clothing with numerous jeans, and a variety of boots and shoes. If your home is decorated in one of the above-mentioned styles, stop in the shop.

I tried things on in the restroom, however, there aren't any hooks for hanging items and it was very awkward. This is a attractive home decor shop right on Main Street in Plainfield. Look for the black and…read morewhite stripe awning over the entrance. Go to Center Street, turn behind the strip center and you'll find a parking area directly behind the building. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and selection they carry. All current home decor and styles that work for many homes. They carry small furniture such as small dining sets, many cabinets, credenzas, accent chairs, a day bed, bookshelves plus pillows, wall decor, lamps, unique accessories, jewelry and signs to name just a few things. Several bathroom vanities ranging in size from 24" to 72" were in the shop. Several cabinets that appeared they could be customized as a bathroom vanity. Nice mixture of furniture paint colors and styles. When I was in the first time she was working with a contractor and a furniture painter to customize a cabinet for a client. It appears this is something they do if you need a specific piece or color. She also will keep an eye out for individual items you are searching for. The woman, the owner?, was very friendly but I didn't get a chance to ask many questions. Just basically what I was looking for that day but she didn't have anything similar. However, many other items that would add a fresh look for Spring and Summer. Lots of cool home decor, great displays and ideas. I'm in the market for a new bath vanity and a few additional items so I'll be back in the near future.

It has a farm house style for a lot of the items; there's even a mounted deer's head on the wall. It has a different sense of space than most home decor places. There are definitely lots of furniture pieces that take up most of the floor space. But if you decorate in this style, it pays to look at all the shelves since they are loaded with goodies that you don't see in the big box places. Note: If you stop by, there are some cool historic photos of old Plainfield on the walls. Pleasant shop with friendly service that doesn't bother you while you browse. Review #2601

Kaye's Antique Barn - Kaye's Antique Barn just steps from Gilley's front door. Park in same lot.

They have some nice stuff here, including a lot more furniture than I expected. They have more room upstairs for browsing too. But the barn seems small compared to the antique mall next door, so unless there is something here that screams "Buy me!", it's kind of hard to rate it higher. Be aware that this is an old barn and has a raised center aisle to walk on. That means low head clearance for air ducts, so watch out. Also, if you are rubber-necking and not looking down, the step down into the rooms/booths on the first floor is large (maybe a 10" drop!) and it would be easy to stumble if you aren't paying attention. Fortunately, the owner did mark the steps in yellow and write "Step" on the ground, but who looks down when you are surrounded by stuff at eye level? I guess I should have. On the positive side, there were some beautiful furniture pieces and a really cool store counter that had shelves that extend all the way through the counter, having a display window on the outside of the piece. This allowed you to see what was in the drawer as a purchaser. Not sure what you would do with this at home, but it was an ingenious piece of Americana. Review #1959
