I visited Franklin for the Holiday Open House and my stop at Salvage Sisters was one of my favorite. The shop was neatly decorated with vintage vibes which inspired me. They carried a ton of adorable vintage Christmas decor. The shop was crowded and people were walking around with their treasures. The excitement was contagious. I found a little vintage Santa to purchase. The shop is large and separated into booths. Prices are reasonable. The checkout line was long but people were friendly. This shop is my favorite in Franklin, it seems I never leave here without a purchase. On this day it was Franklin's annual Christmas shopping day. On this day you pick up a card that has all the participating shops on it and as you shop through each of them you get a stamp from the vendor on your card. Once the card has 10 stamps representing 10 shops than you can leave it at any participating shop to be entered for drawings for gift cards and gift baskets. On this day they also had Easley wines on the table out front and I certainly had to partake. Salvage Sisters is comprised of booths and each one is unique. You honestly never know what you are going to find. I love making my way around the large shop to every single booth. This is such a charming and sweet spot located just a few blocks from the square in Franklin, Indiana. We had a mosying adventure day of antiquing through Franklin and Columbus and found ourselves here. Salvage Sisters is very well organized and decorated. The minute you enter the door, you are greeted by the goat's milk product line they carry that makes the entire shop smell lovely. Weaving from mini booth to booth, you'll find everything from baskets and maps to women's clothing and an array of furniture. The staff is friendly and did a great job at greeting everyone upon entering. I especially enjoyed the handful of baskets I encountered and the large pull down Midwest map in the back - ah, I was so close to taking it home with me. I've also noticed from my last few visits that they do a fantastic job of turning the inventory and rearranging the space frequently to keep it fresh and worth revisiting. Cherry on top? Cute shop, not much I would call salvage but still cute shop. Lots and lots of items were what I consider to be shabby chic. Lots of white dishes, furniture and textiles. Also a good mix of silver items jewelry and nicknacks. In one corner was a booth selling what I call junk for mixed media art. Some of the shops in the area were having sales. Most of the antique shops we'd visited along Jefferson Street were in houses with smaller rooms. Salvage Sisters was just the opposite with larger rooms and spacious displays. The large variety of merchandise had us exploring for awhile. As you enter note the two different sides to the building. On the left side, just past the cashier, is another side to explore. The shop is well organzied, clean and prices were well marked on most items. The prices were extremely high on some items to reasonably priced as you expect from most antique shops. We found vintage suitcases perfect for storage and decor, painted furniture, holiday decor, antique cabinets, lamps, many upcycled pieces, jewelry to purses and flannel shirts plus so much more. Of all the shops my wife and I stopped in on our day exploring downtown Franklin, this was my wife's favorite. She found that the layout of the store was spacious and easy to navigate. She liked the personable nature of the staff working here. She liked the quality of items she found on display. I generally agreed with her! If you like browsing where booths seem orderly and only put out their good stuff, then you will probably enjoy the place. Ohmigosh, I love this place, and I felt like a tourist snapping as many photos as I could so I could try and show you fellow Yelpers how amazing this place is. This place doesn't belong in Franklin, it belongs in some urban neighborhood where people sip their chai from Foundry Provisions and bike over after brunch to see what they can find. Yes.. I think this belongs near downtown Indianapolis. Salvage Sisters allows people to set up individual booths and features home decor. I could have easily walked out with several tables, chairs and window frames, and would have if I had one ounce of creativity in my body. I really like how they reuse math flash cards and old photos for signs and price cards, and signs are written in block letters over old sheet music. Nothing here goes to waste, and I love that. They're closing in a week to remerchandise the store. My guess is this happens on a regular basis, so check back often and follow them on Facebook for information and features items. read more

The best way to describe Salvage Sisters is a bricks and mortar antique shop meets shabby chic meets Etsy. That might not do it justice, but Salvage Sisters is a great antique store for those who are sick of the traditional antique store. Although Salvage Sisters has individual booths, you can tell each booth is curated and designed to catch the buyer's eye. The entire store features high quality antique items, especially if you are looking for home decor. There are plenty of fun items like vintage suitcases, metal cabinets, locker room baskets, shelving.... ranging to signage, wall decor, and fabrics. The entire store seems to create a certain type of aesthetic, to almost give the feeling you are in one vendor's booth, instead of several. I haven't mentioned the best part yet. Prices! Many of the items at Salvage Sisters are extremely affordable for antiques. The selection and price is often unmatched by any antique store in the area. Every time I visit, there are new items and the booths are redesigned to make the shopping experience more enjoyable. Salvage Sisters is just one in a long line of cool antique stores in Franklin. When on a time budget, though, make sure to stop in here! I went twice in a month and the booths and presentations of them changed radically. It's very worthwhile to stop in more than once! Items fly by quickly so act as soon as you see something you love! All of the booths are very Etsy shabby-chic style and the it's got a really nice vibe. Comparably to other stores in the central Indiana region, it's an okay size, too. It's more vintage furniture, jewelry and collectibles rather than clothing, but there is a very small rack off what seems to be hand-picked clothes. I'm only giving four stars because the staff always seems a little uppity! They don't say anything rude, but it's a very "talk about you behind your back" kinda feeling accompanied by some mean stares. Ummm....is there a 10 star option? LOVE THIS PLACE!! I am so glad that I finally got the opportunity to stop in and browse the selection in here! No matter the antique you're looking for, they have just the thing. The booths are all super cute, and very eye catching...you never run out of things to look at! It was so much fun to check out all of the refurb'ed pieces and even more fun to see how they put together different pieces to make the booths really come alive. While in Franklin we decided to stop in the local shops. Along with most of the shops, Salvage Sisters had the painted furniture and Chip and Joanna Gains' Fixer Upper decor that people come here for. I wish I could inform you about the prices but I was rudely stopped after being in the store 2 minutes and scolded in front of everyone. The person working told me "I'm going to need you to pick up the dog!". It was way out of line. She said it like she had asked me 5 times before. I get it, I brought my 4.5 pound dog into the shop without asking but she was assisting someone else when we walked in and there was no signage saying I couldn't bring the dog in. I had him on a short leash and he is housebroken. All she had to do was politely ask me to hold him. I was so embarrassed and taken a back that I quickly left the shop. My aunt owns a shop in Franklin and I know that this is not how most shop owners treat their customers. Hopefully SS can appreciate the people coming into their shop in the future and not berate them in front of their other customers. Good luck, SS. I won't be back. read more

DISRESPECTFUL OF MILITARY SERVICE MEMBERS - RECOMMEND AVOIDING THIS BUSINESS IF YOU HAVE SERVED I have waited a few hours before penning this review, as I want avoid letting my emotions interfere with what should be a simple accounting of an unfortunate incident that occurred on Sat, 10 Dec. You may notice that I do not contribute to the Yelp reviews as actively as perhaps I should, but in this instance, I feel compelled to take action. I will endeavor to spare you the blow-by-blow, but the details are as follow: My girlfriend sent me a photo of a piece of furniture she liked. I did not see it on this business' website, nor did I see it on Facebook or any other social media site. My GF told me where she got the photo, so I Googled Salvage Sisters to see if I could go ahead and buy it right then, not realizing that they had policies in place that prevented such transactions - which, I will admit to you are fair. I left a voicemail describing the piece, explaining that I was in the military and had a busy schedule and wanted to do what I could to secure the piece. I reiterated that I was in the military and coming back from active duty, so was incapable of being present when they were open that Sat, as their hours of operation are quite limited. After leaving the message, I hung up and hoped to hear from them. I didn't. No harm done, but I would've appreciated a return call. Fast-fwd to this Sat, while I was picking up another piece that I purchased for $100, I asked to speak with the Manager. I introduced myself, and gave my name while shaking her hand. I had to ask for HER name, as she did not provide it at first. I explained who I was, what I was seeking to do when I called about the other piece I wanted to buy, and expressed my disappointment with not hearing back from someone at Salvage Sisters and would've appreciated a return call. This individual immediately went on the defensive, explaining she was too busy to return my call, stating that her business consisted of just "two moms" that were very busy. I listened patiently while she made her excuses and told her I understood. Her tone and demeanor grew more disrespectful as she went on to say that she couldn't return every single call they received each week. Now let me clear - up to this point, I haven't raised my voice, glowered or done anything to elicit the response I was getting from this individual. It was only when she brought up my military service with this look disdain on her face that I began to bristle at her disrespectful behavior. She said it didn't matter that I was in the military if she simply didn't have the time to call me back - fair enough - but when I told her that didn't matter to me as much as simply voicing my disappointment, she said, "Well, you just brought it up!" I explained to her that I brought it up to jog her memory about the call - that's all. How many active Military Officers call a local business in Burlington, NC seeking to buy reclaimed furniture? I tried to explain that my military service wasn't what was at issue here. She replied, "Oh, I think it is - I think it is. You brought it up twice in your voicemail!" She went on to accuse me of expecting preferential treatment from her because of my service, when I simply didn't know their policy and wanted to overcome my military duty conflict. At this point, I demanded, "who the hell do you think you're talking to, lady? How dare you. What is wrong with you?" Let me make this perfectly clear - even now, I had not raised my voice. Her response? - "Sir, you need to leave or I'll call the police." Yeah, ok - that's the appropriate response to someone who asks you what your problem is. Of course, seeing as how this person was of limited capacity to deal with this situation as a professional and business owner - and not wanting to get arrested because of the impudent behavior displayed by a person that is sooo not worth it - I retreated, picked up the furniture that I didn't have the heart to return, as it was a gift for my GF, and left. Folks, form your own opinions, but this lady's behavior was disrespectful, unreasonable and belies a false belief that she can treat her customers as she likes - poorly. Sadly, I expect she will respond to this review with distorted truths and a side to the story that makes me out to be the one in the wrong. Further, it seems she has an issue with Military Service Members. She is of a small and troubled minority that apparently feels like those who served are trying to take advantage of "the system" by exploiting their military service status while seeking what she perceives as preferential treatment. Sure, there may be a few out there like that, but the vast majority are simply appreciative of the courtesies that are extended to us by the rest of you, We are proud to serve, and as for me, I've been doing so for a quarter century. read more

Nice little shop with a great cause. The lady at the counter was really friendly and took the time to explain what it is that they do. They had a great selection of items, especially scarves (I am a scarf JUNKIE). I highly recommend stopping in and checking out their selection.
