As we continued our walk down Jefferson Street we ran across Thanks For The Thyme. The exterior is attractive, easy to find with street parking and a tranquil waterfall in front of the shop. They've been here for 21 years and have different vendors throughout. As soon as you walk into the sunroom it's like an advertisement for solar heat...nice and toasty on this chilly fall day. We were warmly greeted by a nice woman behind the desk who allowed us to explore without interruption. After admiring the skeleton in the apron holding a dutch oven, she explained the City of Franklin distributed the skeletons to be displayed in some form in the various businesses. Fun concept and I started to look for them as we explored Franklin. The rooms vary in size and each vendor has their own collections. Antiques, glassware, quilts, furniture, toys, clothing, books and primitives were mixed throughout the shop. I found a wonderful Weller bowl I really wanted to take home if space wasn't an issue. Downsizing isn't always a bright idea. If you're in Franklin and antiquing, stop by and explore this quaint shop filled with history on Jefferson Street.

If you like looking for antiques and collectibles in a setting that matches, then this is the place for you! The single story house converted to a shop has lots of architectural details that are very cool. The front of the shop is easily identifiable from its flowing water fountain out front and a glass "showroom" type of porch on the front. Inside, we found a number of cool furniture pieces, some old toys, and a variety of dishes, clothing, and knick knacks to browse. The staff was very personable and directed us to other shops and a salvage store that we might enjoy looking at as well. Not sure why there have been negative reviews, but we really enjoyed browsing here. Review #2079

During this event there are participating shops and you are given a card to have stamped at each vendor and then you are entered in a drawing for gift baskets and cards once you have visited 10 shops. This shop has very nice decor items and furniture. They also had some clothing. I did not buy anything from this shop this time but I will still make a future visit to see what new items they come up with.

There is public and street parking close to Blackbird Nest and the other shops I wanted to visit. As I entered Blackbird Nest I received a pleasant greeting. The Blackbird Nest specializes in redesigned modern, antique and vintage furniture along with home decor, lamps, new clothing, bath and body products, prints, florals and wreaths plus holiday decor. The shop has several smaller rooms with various items incorporated throughout but items are organized well and prices are clearly marked. I liked seeing furniture, clothing, home and holiday decor all tastefully arranged together in each space. The store has a few narrow isleway's but most are spacious enough to browse comfortably down. They do have a dressing room to try on clothing you are interested in. If you're in Franklin make time to visit Blackbird Nest. Terrific location for gifts, clothing and unique furniture.

At the very least, it's a fun romp through a bit of local history, and at the most, it's a perfect place to frequent in search of that one piece your home is looking for. My wife and I make this a regular date day trip. Any time we have some time off, we'll stop by and peruse. We've only bought something two or three times, but each time it was an absolute steal. That's not to say everything is cheap. There are plenty of traps that are looking to sell you junk at a premium, but that's to be expected at any flea market. if you're familiar with flea markets and co-op sales like this, you'll have seen the good, the bad, and the ugly. This is one of the good. It's clean, it doesn't have any lingering smells. The stalls are well laid out, not messy, and not cramped. The staff is always in a good mood, the stall proprietors are often there and willing to chat, and when you're done, you can stop off at any number of little restaurants in the same shopping area. I've been coming here since dating my wife, and we'll keep coming back as long as we're nearby. I'm definitely a fan.
