These parking areas would be in the form of surface parking lots, on street parking, and weather protected garages. The garages are usually patrolled by security guards. If you are parking on street or at the surface lots, there are meters; usually the fees can be paid via an app. At the garages, there are ticket booths, pull out a ticket, then pay once you leave. Temple Street Parking Garage was easy to find. It is located near shops and restaurants. I parked there for a Yelp event at the NOA restaurant. There were elevators; it was kind of confusing since there were two elevators that goes to different exits. I parked there for about 2.5 hours and paid $9. The parking attendant was not the friendliest but I don't expect top customer service at a parking garage. Most importantly, I felt safe parking there, it was well lit, and my car was untouched. In the future, I would park there again.

DO NOT PARK HERE ON NIGHTS OF MAJOR EVENTS; IT WILL TAKE HOURS TO GET OUT…read more I'm a New Haven resident and I park here frequently. Today will be the last time. The Black Wall Street festival, which brings a ton of people to our city, is happening today and on a Saturday night-- what most of us understand to be one of the main nights that people go out-- the garage had ONE person working. I'm submitting this review 75 minutes into my standstill wait in the line to get out. I truly am not sure if me or my car will be out of here by midnight. This is terrible business and a disservice to new haveners-- it feels like a major disrespect to our city. Most people who live here can't afford the 3k/mo apartments downtown, we have shit public transit and minimal street parking, so we drive. This kind of lack of planning creates chaos in our city and anger and frustration on the part of patrons. I will never park here again.

Get your act together, LAZ, or you don't deserve to do business in our city.

This company is completely incompetent. Unfortunately they own many garages in New Haven, one of…read morewhich is the only garage anywhere near my apartment building so I've used it for years (it's only minimally better than parking on the street in high-crime downtown New Haven). God help you if you ever accidentally leave your key card in your car as the garage is fully locked except business hours. There's a "call for emergencies" button just outside the locked door but nobody answers it. I locked my key card in my car yesterday and after hitting that button and letting it ring for 20 min I finally called the main office number (9 am on a Saturday). The guy that answered had the unfortunate qualities of being both very rude and incredibly stupid. I explained the situation and he repeatedly, rudely, told me I had to use the call box by the door. I told him repeatedly that I was calling the number because nobody was answering the call box - you could hear it ringing in the background of our call too as it's rather loud. I don't know if he was drunk, high, hungover or just extremely stupid, but he kept repeated "LISTEN! you have to hang up your phone and use the call box." Dude, that's why I was calling the main office number, because nobody's answering! After nearly 40 min someone finally used the garage and I was able to enter and access my car. This is the third or fourth time it's happened over the years, same result each time. Park anywhere but Laz if you're able.

Tickets are easy to purchase, and Metro-North trains run frequently throughout the day, making it a convenient option. Food choices are limited, there is a Dunkin Donuts and a Subway. I do like the Subway here for a quick flatbread to take on the train. I like like the old architecture and this station has some beautiful historical elements. The original station dates back to 1848. That structure was replaced by a new building in 1875, which burned down in 1928. Two years later the current station opened. Parking at the station lot or garage has always been available, only once did we have to use a different garage across the street. Overall, we find it easier, more flexible and a much better value to use the Metro-North out of New Haven Union Station than the Amtrak out of Providence.

There is an interesting underground path that takes you to the main station. It is a very small station compared to others in New York City or Philly. There was a small gift shop and a Dunkin Donuts which had a large line. Outside there was a crowd of people waiting for an Uber or the local bus to downtown. It cost about $20 each way from the city. It was only my first time in New Haven so I didn't know what to compare it to. It was a cloudy rainy day so everyone seemed miserable. I would have to come back here on a sunny day to see if there is a difference.
