So after hitting the Yale Center for British Art, we speed walked (sped walked?) over to the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library. Why? Google it and you'll understand when you see the pictures. Beinicke is Yale's rare book and manuscript library - not their main university library or their law library. The reading room is open to registered researchers only, but the public are welcome to visit the library's exhibition hall. And everyone visiting New Haven should! The library was built in 1963, and the the architecture is incredible. The building is a granite veneer shell, fastened to a structural steel frame. Inside that structure is a glass-enclosed tower of book cases. The granite was milled to 1.25 inches thick to allow filtered daylight in - in the afternoon/early evening, the marble turned an amber color. We walked back past it at night for a different view of the building. It is really incredible architecture, and the library hosts exhibits you can see in the exhibition hall when you visit to enjoy the building (when we visited, the exhibit was "Taught By the Pen: The World of Islamic Manuscripts"). The building is incredible and definitely worth a visit if you're exploring the Yale campus!

The colonial revival structure is set back from the street and blends in with the 19th century architecture, including that of the church on the green. As an adult, it brings back childhood memories of my fascination with the variety of the layout of the various rooms. Many things have been modernized, but just walking in and looking around at the magnitude of shelves and shelves of books still brings joy to my quest for learning something new every day.

Today was our 1st visit in about 2 years and we enjoyed reading, coloring, etc in the children's dept. They have a bunch of fun things on the schedule such as a graphic novel club, Madeline crafts, and today's story/nursery rhymes for the younger crowd. The staff in that dept was kind and informative. Bathrooms were clean. Now, the big surprise was when we went downstairs to leave and noticed a lot of cool things. We sat and used the 3-D pens for at least an hour... what fun! Coleen explained all kinds of things that are going on in this room... classes for using the 3-D printer, vinyl printer, wood, etc. Half of this room is designated for business... there are information sessions on how to start a business and many more helpful things to the new business owners.

I've only explored the children's section which is where I spend most of my time because of my toddler. They had clean family bathrooms. There was a book case shaped like a train and a little play train station. There was a baby section for them to crawl in; toys, play kitchen, and train table. I loved that there were little reading nooks built into the walls. In front of the librarian desk, there's a huge play tree where kids can go in it. On the side, a big craft room with blocks and magnetic tiles. They had a fish tank, a tank with worms/isopods, computers, and so much stimulation for the little ones. I'm sure they have great activities, events, and resources as with other libraries. The librarians were friendly; it was a busy Saturday afternoon because it was kind of rainy out. The little kids were being rowdy at one point and the librarian shushed them in a stern but friendly way. All of us parents were trying our best, but things got out of hand when you mix a bunch of little kids together lol. Overall, I wish this library was closer to me, I would be there often!

This library, like the medical school building that houses it, is full of hidden pockets and…read moreinteresting spaces. There are sections devoted to varying levels of quietness, but most of the library is blanketed in a no-speaking-unless-necessary zone. Silence your phone and avoid noisy snacks (the library has a no-food rule, but there is a Keurig machine in the entrance you can use for a fee)! If you want to do group work/feel less self conscious about making noise, there are 3 group study rooms one level down. These can be reserved ahead of time, and two of them have whiteboards! The Morse Periodical Room is a well-lit "ultra quiet zone" that is perfect for when you need to buckle down and focus on a project. The Historical Library Reading Room is where to go when you want to feel like you're in the library from Disney's Beauty and the Beast/an old-fashioned library. The Cushing Room in the lowest level is a fun place to bring visitors/check out jars of brains/pictures of people with different . Not somewhere that I would want to study in for hours, but definitely a place to check out. The information room is lovely during the day, but once the sunlight fades it gets pretty dim. There are lots of computers and macs, and you can print here if you have an account. If you like to explore, this library is full of little nooks where you can find a study space that suits your taste. Take the time to walk around before you pick a spot! Main complaint: closes at midnight. Guards will go around kicking people out at this time. There's a warning bell at 11:45pm.

All the staff are so friendly, courteous, professional, and patient at this library.The folks at…read morethe reference desk in the computer room always cheerfully make copies of what I need to be copied and they're knowledgeable about iOS and PC software. They give instruction, providing the email address of the library so I can send what I need to be copied from my phone to the library email. It's very convenient and economical too. I don't like the cost of ink in the store nor the mess so I don't have to deal with any of that unpleasantness. I just visit my friendly library folk, pay 20 cents per copy, et voila, call it done. It's an absolute pleasure coming here because the folks that work here seem interested and genuinely want to help and are exemplary in customer service. If all staff at other businesses could conduct themselves in this manner, the world would be a more productive place. Towards the end of the last 20 minutes before closure, they wanted to squeeze in some wedding pictures. Walking up the stairs going into the James Blackstone Memorial library. The big doors opened led to beautiful entrance and observing the Art and books around us. We didn't get a chance to look around more because of the time restraint. A beautiful, quiet space filled with so much history.

We bought tickets online for the Blackstone Library's mini golf fundraiser. We've never been to…read morethis library but we were excited to check it out. We went Sunday and the time was from 1-3:30pm. We waited outside on their benches until they opened at 1pm. We didn't realize there was another parking lot that directly brought you to the sign-in location. It appeared to be a smooth check-in as I also paid online the night before. We got our mini golf putts and balls. Mine had butterflies! I took pictures of a few of the holes but it was busy and we didn't want to keep the line longer. The upstairs third level hole 17 was super fun with spring loaded action. My husband and I both got a hole in one here. Hole 18 went around a net on the stairs and was fun to watch and hear as it set off bells as it went down the stairs. Such a fun event. We loved the library as well. Each floor has amazing set ups and displays their books very invitingly. I took pictures of books to check out in the future at our own town library. We would love to come back next year and check out this event. On Saturday night, they had an adults only event with silent auction and adult beverages. This would be fun too! 5 stars
