Came here on the recommendation of several friends. Don't let the dumpy exterior fool you. Parking is available in the tiny lot in front of the building, as well as on the side streets behind. Outside of rush hour (ie before 1500) one can park on Kingsway as well. The staff definitely are Vietnamese. Looks like a mom and pop. The menu board on the wall only shows half the stuff this place actually sells. The secret is to look at the stuff on the counter, as well as the pile of stuff in and above the glass display to the L of the counter. Good thing my friends told me this ahead of time, otherwise I would've walked out with just a sandwich (banh mi). As I didn't know what to get, I got a bunch of goodies. Pro tip - either call in and place an order, or come early. This place sells out. #6 Vietnamese sub special - mediocre. Too much bread, not enough filling. Also not spicy enough though I specifically asked for it. This is the only product I would actually not recommend. There are better sandwiches in the area, including next door (Bean Banh Mi). The mom making the sandwich was nice and polite though. Pork rice roll - best deal by far, and was specifically recommended by my friends. This container is filled to the brim for $10. It's easily 2-3 times what one would get at a dim sum place (different style, of course). I can make 2 meals out of this thing. The dad behind the counter also included a nice big bag of fish sauce, and another bag of basil leaves and bean sprouts. White rose dumplings (Hoi An style) - tastes like the real deal in Hoi An. Recognized them as soon as I saw them. Skins are a bit thick and sticky much like dim sum dumplings. Comes with a small container of fish sauce. Banh tet thap cam (sticky rice log thing) - they sell 2 versions of here. I went for the one with salted egg ($15) instead of the vegetarian one ($13). Wasn't sure what to expect until I opened it up at home. This thing is the size of a Subway footlong, and is packed solid. I can almost beat someone to death with it. It is quite similar in taste and texture to the Chinese style ones, but in log form. I liken the eating experience (if eaten like a hot dog) to eating a salmon half for sashimi. The rice rolls and sticky rice log are each enough to make 2 meals. Wow. I will be dreaming of this food tonight. Oh wait. I can still eat the giant pile of leftovers in the fridge. Guess I'll be back to try the other secret items. Recommended.

I was in the area and was craving for some banh mi! Kingsway is definitely the area you want to be in if you're looking for some bomb Vietnamese food. I decided to take my chances and walk into a random Vietnamese deli to get my banh mi. Right when you walk inside Kingsway Deli, you'll see an array of pre-packaged Vietnamese goodies! I'm not sure what everything is, but I saw some salad rolls! There was also some hot food behind the counter and some Vietnamese desserts in the fridge. I was greeted by a woman, service was quite cold here as she said nothing other than hi. I order the #7 Chicken, she asked if I wanted spicy and I said no. It was relatively quick because no one else was inside. Overall, not the best place to get banh mi. I thought the chicken was a bit dry, but the flavour was good. The baguette was toasted, on the softer side but still crunchy. The veggies looked and tasted fresh. For $5.75 I can't really complain, it was a quick meal and if left me quite satisfied.

Honestly, the woman who made those is amazing. However, I'm not sure, but I think there's been a recent change in ownership (August 2023??), so I cannot comment on whether the current fresh food offerings are the same calibre. But, they've reorganized the layout a bit, and they're definitely more focused on Eastern European offerings with lots of frozen, fresh and shelf stable options. I was very happy to see that they still have the same vacuum sealed smoked chicken and ribs, and they seem to have a wider assortment of frozen pierogies and pelmeni than typically available in grocery stores. Hopefully the woman with the magical savoury baked goods is still there to make her delectable items!

Yesterday after failing to find skin-on turkey breast elsewhere I phoned and ordered a whole turkey…read morebreast, skin on, and paid a deposit of $20. All good - head out and ask my husband to pick it up. While I shop for other things. After several minutes of confusion from the staff, he's finally handed an enormous wrapped parcel and charged $104. He's shocked but figures he better get it. Now I don't know if we could have returned it at this point, but when I saw Safeway only had a small, single breast (for $13.99) I figured I'd go with what appeared to be a very large double / full breast. Getting home I unwrap a bloody, netted roll of turkey that turns out to be one skin-on breast that has the meat partially separating from the skin, very unevenly and poorly removed from the bone, plus approximately 8 skinless breasts of various sizes. I'm already anxious enough about making a massive and complex meal and now I have an extremely expensive pile of basically crap as my centrepiece. Wonderful. Suggest if you buy from them do it in-store and watch what you're getting. I suspect they had a trainee and rolled their unsalable poorly cut breasts into a giant 'sucker' package for whoever phoned in a turkey order. I certainly won't support this business again, which pisses me off because I sure don't love supporting Galen and the other monopolies. Feeling incredibly ripped off and gullible for trusting which also sucks for us as a society. I was very clear in my order that I was expecting both sides of the breast with skin on (I asked twice) from a roughly 5-6 kilo turkey. Guess I'm just bitter as I lie awake stressing about presenting a hacked up small pile of turkey to my guests. Damn Tango's, you did me dirty.

I haven't tried the deli since I don't often eat deli meats and sandwiches but the iced mochas have been delicious and quite affordable. Staff is friendly and the owner seems to always be here so if there's problems, it should be brought up so they can do better, although i haven't had any issues.

The furniture looks nice but some is better quality than others. Our high top table was wobbly. Better signage is needed for the deli and sandwich section. Some things were missing prices/labels. When I came with a friend, the place was fairly busy. The staff and friendly. However, they are not experienced. It is clear they have not worked in food and beverage previously. There is a water and condiment station, but the cups for the water are so small, and they are plastic. I'm not sure why they don't just have plastic tumbler cups since they have real tableware for purchased food anyway. There is compostable cutlery, which is better than plastic. But again, why not have real cutlery since the cups and plates are all real dishes? The compostable cutlery is also very difficult to use with some of their items as it's just not sturdy enough. The compostable should be saved for to go orders. In terms of the food, they use good ingredients. The sandwiches also came with a side of artichokes dip/spread, which was a nice touch. On the other hand, they claimed to have heated up the sandwiches, which was definitely NOT the case as the sandwich was cold and the cheese was not even close to melting. Because the sandwich was cold and they used thicker bread, the bread was tougher than it needed to be. They claimed there was a preset timer and that they had grilled or pressed it. Well, the timer must have been for 3 seconds since it did nothing to the sandwich, and I don't believe their claim as there were zero grill marks on the bread. They need to have a proper panini press, and staff need to be trained in it. There is a large selection of dessert and sandwiches, and they also have soup and pasta and then sliced meats at the deli. Some sandwiches were not available even though we came at 130pm, e.g., veggie, prosciutto. We saw more sandwiches that were prepared on a try that was behind the deli, but they were not restocked into the window/case where you ordered. Additionally, the deli was "closed for cleaning"; I'm not sure what that meant as no one was cleaning, and it wasn't apparent that the deli was dirty. Plus. The meats were all sitting in the glass case. Considering, they had three staff and no line. The whole situation of the sandwiches and deli made no sense. Prices are reasonable for what you get and are comparable to other cafes The place has a lot of potential, but there is also a lot of competition in the area, and I think some areas need improvement.

The HBC Gourmet Market is a little known great eatery in downtown Vancouver. It is located on the bottom floor of the Hudson's Bay Company (next to the Pacific Centre food court). The soups, salads, and sandwiches are their main selects but there is a whole lot more! My favourites are the Thai Chicken soup and the Chipotle Chicken Soup... usually ordered with a Greek salad. I am always so pleased with my lunch that I made this my very first review on Yelp!
