I happily lived at Carlyle for several years. It's a three-tower condo complex with a doorman (in…read morethe South building, 2151, and keypad entry in the other two buildings), two gyms, a pool, parking garage, dishwashers, and in-unit laundry. I also loved that it was pet-friendly with no weight restrictions on dogs AND backed on to a very large dog park. The complex is convenient to the King Street Metro station and Whole Foods, as well as Old Town and the waterfront. There has been some turnover with the staff since I was there, but generally speaking, everyone is pretty great. In particular, Mike (in maintenance) is the best. Q knows all three buildings inside and out, and can answer any question. Each building and unit seems to have its own eccentricities. If you're thinking of buying or renting, definitely ask the next-door neighbors. I occasionally heard about issues in other units with plumbing, noise, or ants, but my unit was completely quiet and I never saw a bug in my years of living there. I lived on a high floor and, due to a wind tunnel in my hallway, had some problems with venting issues from the roof. Periodically, they power-wash the garage, and you have to find a place to park your car for a full day on a weekend. Also--and I think this is changing a bit--the residents are largely at or over retirement age. Seeing someone under 40 in the elevator was a rarity (not including condo employees). It's hit-or-miss whether you'll find a unit that has been updated. When I was living there, the building was about 15 years old, and several original appliances died during my time there. Particularly if you're considering renting, or you're a buyer hoping to avoid a renovation, look for a unit that has been updated (or add a clause about replacing appliances to your lease). On the whole, I definitely miss many aspects of living here. It was a lovely building with amenities in a great location with some excellent staff members and quiet neighbors. Just poke around after your open house or showing and check for oddities on your particular floor.

Extreme "allergies" probably from mold forming, have to wipe the windows daily because the seals and window border is disintegrating from the water. But we have a great landlord so hopefully things affecting the building structure itself and neighbors being more considerate happens. One can hope. It will be a good day when businesses and neighbors have respect for one another and are considerate.

I was impressed at how clean, new, and refreshing this library was upon entering it. I noticed the library has a community center and a library. I came there to return library books for the closed Kingstowne Library. I liked how quiet the library was and how helpful the staff was in assisting me. This is the closest public library near me and the most exciting library I have encountered in this area.

My kids and I come here a few times a week at least, and they are able to find new books every time. We generally check out about 20 items each time, so this is impressive for a smaller library! I'm not familiar with any sections other than reference (that I needed for school work) and YA fiction, but there seems to be a great variety in all genres. They have a lot of study/quiet areas and quiet rooms, and everyone is respectful of others, giving this place a great atmosphere. They regularly display artwork from the local elementary school, which is cool for the kids to see when they go (especially when their own artwork is featured, haha). And there are lots of monthly events, including activities for kids of all ages like book readings and arts and crafts. Overall, a solid choice in Kingstowne.

And this new location…read morefor the Kingstowne branch of the Fairfax County Public Library system has got some upsides over the old branch at Landsdowne plaza. Buuuut it's also got some aspects that make me go 'whaaaa?' Sunday hours - great. Bigger and roomier and far more natural light - great. More seating - great. Green roof - love it. The library opened a little over a week ago, and an elevator was out of order? I assume that'll be up and running soon? There's an entrance on the ground floor, but it's locked? In the children's section, there's a ledge that looks like a big slide. Kids were playing on it. There are signs that say don't sit or slide on the window ledge. Don't make a fixture that looks like a slide *in the children's section* if it's not to be used that way. Also, signage in the parking garage says to park on the 2nd floor for the library entrance. You enter, go up a level, park, enter .... that's not the library entrance. You're actually supposed to keep going up in the garage, park in the roof. THAT's the parking garage entrance level to the library. Aesthetically, I like the library. I like the expanded hours. But some signage and design choices leave me a bit flummoxed. 3.33 stars

Parking is plentiful, the area is literally next to a lake with rental boats, hiking trails and a golf course. There's a pool, workout room with brand new machines, and a dog park.
