Amazing breakfast links
Donovan H.

Back in 1984, the big slogan across America was "Where's The Beef?". Well I think that has been answered as this is one of the best places I've purchased beef in quite some time. Even though the majority of meat I purchase is at a grocery store (Raley's, Nugget, Safeway, etc.) or a warehouse-type store (Costco, WinCo, etc.), you just can't beat the quality of a family-owned butcher shop. This takes me to the one and only "Kings Meats" that has only been in operation since 2020 but in that amount of time, they've gained hundreds of new customers. Located in the El Dorado community of Diamond Springs, they are relatively close to Highway 49 and roughly 10 minutes south of Placerville and Interstate 50. I came here during the afternoon of Friday 5/16/25 at around 2:45pm. And as expected, the parking lot here was quite full with vehicles stocking up on some amazing meats. Keep in mind that if you do plan on coming here (especially from out of town), they are closed on Monday/Tuesday but open from 10am-6pm Wednesday-Saturday and 10am-5pm on Sunday. Once entering the building, I was absolutely amazed and quite impressed with how clean and tidy this place was. There was at least 4 employees working behind the counter and they all took their time in making sure every customer was helped. As for the meats, this place has everything you're looking for; ground beef, ground chuck, skirt steak, sirloin steak, New York steak, ribeye, spare ribs, pork belly, pork tenderloin, bacon, sausage, hot links, and so much more than I didn't even mention. During my visit, I stocked up and spent WAY more than I had anticipated; at least $200 worth of food. I mainly bought steak, ground beef, bacon, and some pork. Jump forward 3 weeks later (after a Memorial Day BBQ & other dinners) and the quality of their food is absolutely top-notch. It was so good to a point where it is better than a premium steakhouse or high-end burger joint. And for those pescatarians, they even have a decent seafood selection here (crab, salmon, oysters, etc.). Truth be told, I used to do my meat shopping at V. Miller (in Sacramento) until they closed in March 2025 as well as a few other butcher shops in the area. After a fellow Yelper told me about Kings Meats, I took his advice and glad I did. The quality (and even very reasonable prices) of the cuts of meat are some of the best I've had in years. Whether you grill, pan fry, or roast your meat, I am a firm believer that this place will meet your expectations. With that said and done, I am giving "Kings Meats" a picture perfect five-star rating.

Spoiled beef tucked away in a red food dye fake mustache.

The picture should say enough. Clearly an attempt to hide spoilage. Bad business practices means we throw away $29 worth of ground beef and $22 of bratwurst... both of which smelled and were clearly spoiled. Both of which we bought yesterday and put in the fridge at home within 10 minutes. This is after we decided to give them a chance again after buying a beef roast that had clearly been plumped with water.

Tri tip

We were visiting our son close by and decided to stay for dinner. He said he knew where we should go so his Dad can look at the meat. Hahaha. Anyways, he was right! Choice meat. Fair prices. Friendly folks.

We love this place! It's so nice to have a place to buy meat from that's local and from good sources. They always have deals and everyone is so nice there.

10/12/2023: Kings Meats' Marquis and its entrance are simple yet, impressive. Moreover, upon entering the shop, the meat selections were proudly displayed and pleasantly surprised, I discovered a few meat cuts were on sale as well. I selected purchasing a top sirloin and stew meat because I needed planning several dinners being cooked in advance due to my inundated schedule. Upon broiling the top sirloin, I was elated there were no gristle found--just lean, high-quality beef; the stew meat was tender as well. Surely, I shall return to Kings Meats due to their high-quality, lean beef selling at incredibly affordable, price points.

meat it a lil thinner on one end...

We went over how my wife and I have come to enjoy each and every part of the lamb... Gary told us how long it would take and how much it would cost... Both VERY acceptable numbers... Gary called on the date promised to let us know the lamb was ready... We picked it up the next day... To say the cutting, sealing and freezing jobs were excellent would be an understatement... We could not have been more pleased... Even the drying and vacuum sealing was done so well that there was no liquid "sweat" when the packages were thawed to eat... We could not be happier... Brought to you by the family-owned, upscale and very successful, Nugget chain of grocery stores. I became very well acquainted with the Nugget markets living in Davis. There were two stores not far from each other and they were always packed. I shopped at the smaller one as it was closer to my home. It is literally the only place I ever shopped for food.I cannot imagine shopping anywhere else. When I moved to El Dorado Hills 5 years ago... thank goodness there was a big and beautiful Nugget a mile and half away. My point is all Nugget markets are quite incredible. Nothing compares to them. Excellent quality, in-house prepared food, bakery... TDF, floral, meat department, liquor, and fabulous fresh produce section. Fork Lift is to me like the Nugget markets on steroids! I was astonished at the size of the store and cool inside architectural design. Yes it is hip! Super clean, well stocked in everything. Organized. Quite impressive. And the same great departments as I mentioned above that are available in the Nugget stores are right here too! The chatter is that the Fork Lift offers many discounted prices but honestly, I never see them. Then I heard the lower priced items are strategically placed in and around the store. Who knows. I enjoy taking the drive up the hill to Cameron Park occasionally just to wander around and marvel at this shopping mecca! Easy exit off the freeway and fast to find. Plenty of parking. Worth checking out if you are in the area or on the way to or returning from Tahoe. Did I mention super duper customer service!?! And weekly specials! Geez... a girl cannot remember everything.:) Here is to good eating!

My experience tonight was bad! My bride and I are returning from a trip from the Bay Area and I needed to stop to pick up a few items. First, I go to the Dairy section to purchase 2% Protein milk. I simply cannot find it but a courtesy clerk was putting away some items so I asked if they carried Protein milk. He looked and then he stated we don't carry it and "what we have is what we have!" Then he walked off and I was standing there! I looked further and found the milk. After picking up a few more items I get into the check out counter. The checker does not say hello nor does she engage me because the entire time she is frustrated that the clerk in the next counter is not coming over to give her a break because she is helping another customer! I waitied (swear) at the bakery for 20 min to get a cupcake. I found someone after waiting 10 min who was CLUELESS - who couldn't find a plate to put in on, so I got it in a GIGANTIC case - could have fit a full cake. The guy was SWEATING, running around desperate to find a container to put this thing in. Then there was no sticky stuff on the bottom of the cupcake so it slipped around on the huge plate and frosting was rubbing off on the inside containier and it flipped over too! 2. Employees that should be working at the deli are rarely there. If they are helping someone, they NEVER say "I'll be right with you". NEVER. 3. Today I got there at 7:55am, there may have been 5 people in the store. No cashiers, so I went to self checkout - I had a bottle of wine to buy and a bagel. The self checkout lady was, well, A BITCH. Told me I can't check out there due to the alcohol. She reluctantly checked me out ( 2 items people) and I thanked her and she had the NERVE to tell me that I interupted a phone call she was on. "See why we don't do alcohol in self-checkout". UM? WTH 4. Employees need a refresh on manners, customer service, etc. I am not giving them my business anymore. I HATE this store! Don't bother to go before a holiday. They have about 3 checkers for Thanksgiving. They suck. Other than on line ordering, I will be going there anymore. I'm done. You can thank the employee at the self checkout today for this post.

The self-checkout supervisor at the time was with someone who appeared to be a manager (?).
