What's up with that? I was in the shop promptly at 929am for my confirmed pick-up at 930am. There was a line. Service wasn't speedy, and the chatter at the front of the line wasn't the right optics when you want to grab and go (especially knowing my order was ready). A five minute wait wasn't horrible, nor will it ruin my day. I grabbed the bright orange box that was handed to me and went on my way. At home I poured a fresh cup of piping hot Peet's Coffee, opened the box, snapped a shot and grabbed my most favorite donut of all. The plain. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I judge all donuts by the plain type. If the plain isn't great, no amount of glaze, icing, filling, or fancy toppings will make a donut great. After the first bite, I did not get any sense that this little guy was made fresh early this morning. It didn't taste bad, it just didn't have that fresh pillowy texture I love plain donuts to have. I dunno. Maybe it's me. Maybe donuts are no longer a favorite. Maybe I've had the best and nothing will ever compare. Maybe aliens are among us. Maybe Moon Pies will come back. Good in a pinch, the office crew will dig 'em and let's face it, the nostalgia alone is worth it. Sort of.
