If I could give these ladies more than 5 stars, I would. First off, the food is really good. But they went above and beyond helping with my coworker who nearly passed out from heat exhaustion. We were waiting to order and my coworker got dizzy and started to fall. The lady taking orders sprung into action immediately and helped me get her stable and seated. She and the lady inside the truck got my coworker water and wet towels to cool her down. They checked on us repeatedly and even let us place our food order without waiting in the long line. I was really stressed out at the time and I did not do a good enough job of thanking them so I am writing this review to praise their service and care in addition to the food. For the food part I tried the banana pudding and I have to say it was phenomenal. My coworker is currently enjoying some pulled pork and Mac and cheese and gave both rave reviews. So sad to write this post. I've had Kingpin one other time and it was amazing, but tonight's experience was not it. Order: Combo plate (Ribs & Rib tips & Chicken) w/ Mac and Sweet Potato Casserole. Dessert: Apple Pecan First, the meat was not it tonight. The ribs are always perfectly tender and not dry. The ribs I got had an end rib that was not a full rib which pissed me off because I was really hungry waiting 50 mins in line. Then to bite into my ribs and they weren't tender was devastating. I do believe there is possibly a faster process for them when it comes to ordering. But I do understand they don't want the kitchen to be behind. I pulled up at 6:57 and there was a line maybe about eight people that were in front of me in the line but I didn't think I was going to be waiting an hour before I even ordered my food. My husband and I tried Kingpin after following them on IG for a few months and their food did NOT disappoint. I ordered their Jumbo Shrimp Mac & Cheese with a hot link and my husband order their beef tips w/waffle fries and turkey leg w/ Cajun shrimp and sauce. It was delicious! The turkey leg was literally fall off the bone, delicious and flavorful. I didn't even get a chance to take a picture of it. The Mac and cheese was a nice consistency and came with so many shrimp. I do wish they had an option to add the Cajun sauce/shrimp that came on the turkey leg to the Mac and cheese because they were also delicious! I personally like spice and heat with my BBQ so I would've liked a little more kick to my hot link. But the flavors are incredible, the meat was nicely cooked and a little red hots did the trick nicely. For those who prefer less heat, their bbq sauce is a traditional sweet/tangy and also very good. The amount of food given is exceptionally generous for the price. We ended up needing to take the beef tips and some of the turkey leg home. They saved well even the next day and we will definitely be returning. Some advice for first timers: come expecting a line and to wait a bit. Good food takes time so get there early! We came right at open and they had a line of 10-15 people already waiting. Given the limited space and manpower they do pause at times to catch up on orders. So, on their FB and IG they advertised that they'd be available at the Hilton hotel on 16th at and Northern this past Monday. Even on their website, they posted the menu for that day. A BUNCH of disappointed people arrive only to discover that they were hired for a private event. So what the hell? Now, they did offer to serve non event goers but to their very limited menu. No ribs, no mac, no collard greens, just a bare bones menu. Whatever, ordered something just so that I dont go home empty and hangry. Opted for their 2 meat plate (pulled pork, hot link, waffle fries as the side, and a slice of TX toast). Good? Sure. Worth all this hype all these damn AZ food influencers be giving them? I don't think so. Hesitant to even hunt them down again even if their ribs are available. Just overall, an underwhelming and annoying experience. I'm feeling a little mixed on this review. It's a little expense 18-28 per person, but it's 2 days' worth of food. The food is good but pretty standard for a BBQ. Service was ok, but not excellent. Here is my issue, yes choose to stand in a long line, but when I ordered I was told 10-12 min; it was over 22. If I could have gotten my money back I would have left. With inflation and it being a foot truck, I was worried about the portions and the pricing. Wow! I was full from a two meat combo plate. The ribs were juicy and sausage was pretty darn good. It was 21 in total after tip. I even thought about saving the food for later, that's how full I was. I underestimated the portions. We experienced Kingpin for the first time during the 2022 Scottsdale Jazz Festival. Out of all the food trucks this was the most popular. My husband was able to treat himself to a 3 rib plate. The menu was pretty sparse. The event started at 3pm and pretty much most of the menu wasn't available. It wasn't that busy. Maybe they just didn't have a lot of options that night.
