    Hill Farmstead 7 oz pour
    Dan S.

Great service! The downstairs bar is cozy and spacious. The beer selection is excellent, Hill Farmstead is on tap along with many other excellent local beers. The beer bread is freaking unbelievable. It's better than any dessert I've had in a year.

Kingdom Taproom is a hidden gem in a small town that is worth going off the beaten path to experience. On our way back to Boston from Dog Mountain, we stumbled across Kingdom Taproom via Yelp and some other dog friendly websites. The outside gives off the typical craft beer taproom vibes, which made me skeptical. However, we opened up the menu and found (despite small in quantity) some very interesting options for food. We decided on the pickle plate and poutine for sharing prior to ordering our entrees. I will say the pickle plate is probably the BEST plate that I've ever had, which is high praise considering I make my own pickles and after being in the south for almost a decade am extremely well versed in styles and types. It was not just the crunch and taste of the plate, but also the variety of veggies that are on the plate... it's vastly different (and delicious) from any other plate I've had at a restaurant. The poutine was superb as well. I will say it ranks (easily) in the top 5 poutines I've had. The only other dishes that would rank above it came from Milwaukee (cheese country) and various Canadian establishments (which is kinda where it's from), so again it garners high praise. The gravy was flavorful but not too thick, the curds were perfect in terms of texture and taste, and the fries stayed crisp through the entire duration of its existence. The burgers we had (one beef and one veggie) were done very well (not well done...). It was not the best burger we've ever had, and the potato bun felt like too much bun for the burger, but that's a preference thing, and I prefer brioche to potato - which is a very hot topic among burger snobs. The service and ambiance were adequate, which is the only reason it fares "good" in rating and not "great" or 5 stars. The value of the meal almost vaulted it into 5-star territory for me, as I always hold the value of the meal in high regard. So let's call it 4.5 stars, say you shouldn't miss it if you are in the area, and even venture that it's worth the time spent to wander off the main highway.

Fantastic place. The restaurant is at "basement" level and it just adds to the charm and feel. Very speakeasy feeling. I absolutely love it. There's not a bad seat there. Bar, couch, high tops, tables. Just wait to be seated! Staff is super accommodating and pleasant. My food has always been so delicious. The French onion soup was a perfect starter. Seasoned well and the cheese was so gooey and melty perfection. One bite of my Caprese sandwich and I knew I had made the right choice. Absolute perfection. Refreshingly fresh and had the perfect crunch to the bread. I will no doubt return. Always a good time!

Sat down for food and was told twenty minutes despite the fact of having a full wait staff. The waitresses seemed to be walking in circles and not paying attention to the four of sitting down. When they finally got to taking our order they ignored our drinks and kept serving new patrons. I'm so irate as I write this that I wasn't to break beer glasses against the walls. 45 minutes in, and I'm balls-deep. Waiting... Beer came and is sub-par. Whenever, I roll back through St. Johnsbury I will avoid this place like the plague.

Poutine is a fickle dish. Went to St. J for a day to look around. Stopped in for a beverage and some food. Wait staff wore masks, and patrons should do the same when not eating and drinking. The beer selection was also good. Back to the poutine. Seems easy. Throw some fries on a plate, top with cheese curds and then pour over gravy. But keeping the fries from getting soggy, while ensuring the cheese melts is tricky. They didn't hit the mark but it wasn't a terrible miss either. The cheese wasn't melted but overall it was a good dish and the fries held their own. Tasty. And bacon. They added bacon. With a good craft beer that works for me.

Excellent food. Excellent service. Clean, bright, & hip. Hubby and I got burgers (they're pretty small but filling). We ordered medium- he got medium and I got well-done (docked a star for that). I didn't send it back or complain because I was hungry and didn't want to wait for them to cook another one. At well-done, it was still delicious. Not dry like you'd think, either. Truffle Parmesan fries were amazing! The spicy pickled carrots were a tasteful surprise!

A great restaurant to stop in and grab some eats and catch up with friends and family. Nestled in the historic town of St Jansbury, it is a great place for eats and drinks. I think they had an extensive drink menu even though that's not my cup of tea. The waiter was welcoming and the outdoor eating area had umbrellas and nice patio/wooden picnic table family benches. I had their table salad which had a wonderful flavor of greens, fat (nuts, cheese and bacon) and tart (grapefruit) for around $14. The poppyseed vinaigrette totally worked with the salad. Service is kind, considerate and attentive.

Stopped here on my way home from a bicycle event in Burke VT. Overall it was a very nice experience. What I liked most about the Kingdom was the spacious room with high ceilings. They had a nice selection of local beers and a nice bar. My lunch was pretty simple. A Caesar salad with sardines and that was it. So I can't really comment on the more complex dishes, but I was happy with the portion and the dressing.

Returning from a wonderful ski weekend in Quebec's Eastern Townships, pleasantly tired and sore from all the activity, and as well, ravenously hungry, we looked for dinner restaurants in the Lyndonville/St. Johnsbury area and came up with the Kingdom Taproom. We weren't disappointed. We initially thought the place was closed as it seemed to be at street level (a new restaurant going up) and then we saw the downstairs signs. We entered and were ushered to our table. First was the superb beer selection, which we explored, IPAs, Double IPAs, Ambers, Light Ambers, etc. Wonderful. Our server was quite versed with their selections and made some excellent recommendations. Then there was the food. Yum. Their flatbreads are delicious. We had both the pulled pork and the buffalo chicken selections and both outstanding. I had their Chilean Lomito sandwich, pressed sourdough panini with slow-roasted pulled chicken in a chili, lime & garlic marinade, topped with sliced red onions, guacamole and herb aioli. The combination of flavors was superb. We now have a place halfway between home and the Quebec ski areas to enjoy a good apres ski and dinner. Totally recommended.

We went expecting burgers AND ended up having the most amazing freshly made and delicious tacos and craft beer. Service was fast and friendly. Prices were reasonable.

Mac and cheese with pulled pork

While on a road trip with my fiancé, his cousin, and her boyfriend's family, we came about Kingdom Taproom. They have been here several times in previous road trips to Vermont, so they wanted to take us here. It looks like a daytime speakeasy, dimly lit so people coming here could spend hours here and not know what time it is outside. The service was pretty quick! I had food in my mouth when the waitress asked what I wanted to order as my entree, so she decided to take my order once she finished everyone else's order. However, the waitress did forget to take my order after taking everyone else's and we had to call her back so she can take my order. I ended up getting the mac and cheese with pulled pork as well as white chocolate pumpkin cheesecake. Our food came out altogether after about 20 minutes, but what I thought would be an average-sized entree was actually a large cauldron of bubbling cheese, overflowing with pasta and copious amounts of pulled pork. The mac and cheese stayed HOT until about 20 minutes later, so I kept huffhuffing on my food until it got to a warm temperature. This dish is incredibly cheesy and saturated in carbs, which on a cold day, was a smart move on my part! Not good for a diet, good for the soul. The white chocolate pumpkin cheesecake was very creamy and pretty dense, which I love in a dessert! Despite its sweetness from the white chocolate, you could still taste the pumpkin! The crust was also wonderful: not too hard, but not soft and weak from holding so much filling. During this feast, I was also able to sample the maple pear upside-down cake. It was so refreshing how Kingdom Taproom uses fresh and large pear slices in the cake! However, it was still quite sweet and easy to scarf down. I was so impressed with my food at Kingdom Taproom. This place makes anyone want to forget about any sort of diet and just dive right into high quality and soul-warming food. Definitely try this place out if you are in Vermont!

Blown away by the Basement Bar earthy tones and golden lighting with brass plated bar surfaces. The bartender, Libby, was so funny and friendly and helpful with making choices for an overwhelmed first timer. With plentiful drafts to choose from as well as cocktail list and wines by the glass, it was an adventure wondering through the 15 draft choices from as far away as Sweden to local craft houses in VT. The meat and cheese board was a great pairing to please the palate with the variety of beer sampling. After a day of walking about downtown and a trip to the local museum it was a great space for someone looking for great comfort food and candy store like choices to indulge in. Next time will have to sample whiskey with the cheese board instead of beers. It was an experience worth a return visit.

They are doing a wonderful job, and I am so, so glad they didn't come and go like the other restaurants in that spot before it. You probably knew that from the other reviews, but I have another reason I am writing this. I came here with my husband one night months ago, and he got a cocktail that had cherry and bourbon as the main flavors. I stole most of it from him :D. It was so good that every time I get another cocktail somewhere else, even if it is good, I just wish it was the cherry bourbon one. So, if you're there and they still have it on the menu, I suggest you get it. And if the establishment is reading this, my vote is to keep that one around.

We got our little buzzer and we were told to stay within a half mile. We sat outside across the street on a bench. We watched numerous groups of 3+ go in and not come back out, which means they were seated. When, after 40 minutes, we were called in, none of those groups were at the bar. Kinda makes you wonder. We ordered cokes. $5 each and got refills, but when the bill came was shocked to be charged for every refill! We spent more on cups of Coke than the actual effing meal!!! Ordered the steak medium. It was rare. Oh well, was hungry and didn't want to wait any longer. But it was good. Buffalo chicken cheese curd fries were good, but chicken was dry. The cheesecake was not tasty at all. The burger was "mid," according to my son.

Seated right away. Good enough atmosphere. It's not Bailiwicks, but good enough... Their bar area is super lively, I like it a lot. We both *don't* love the one and only, unisex bathroom that is always out of hand soap and not always super clean (according to Boyfriend who had to lift the seat.......). They need to keep an eye on that... Waitress was ok. A very loud talker. Food was amazing! I had both their "specials" - the fiddle heads appetizer and the Lamb chops... which were also served with fiddle heads, and a delicious risotto (I didn't realize the lamb was also served with fiddle heads, if I had, I would have tried a different appetizer - but that's my fault because I'm sure she must have mentioned it). Everything was amazing. Lamb was so tender and perfectly flavored. Boyfriend had the hanger steak and duck fat fries and loved it too. Says it's some of the best fries he's had! I'm not much of a dessert person but I like trying stuff at restaurants where I know it will be homemade. I had some whipped cream and butterscotch dessert and it was great - couldn't finish as I was full, but no regrets. We will be back! I love that their menu changes seasonally, it keeps things very interesting.

What used to be a sketchy area is now filled with boutique shops, bustling businesses of tech and industry, arts, culture, and restaurants. One such upscale craft cocktail bar is Wolf Tree. If you didn't know it, you might feel as if you'd stepped into a hipster cocktail lounge in Brooklyn as you walk into Wolf Tree. They offer a variety of playful and inventive drinks. My friend was able to get a virgin cocktail but I just wish they had more than one single cocktail on the menu with vodka. With my choices somewhat limited, I went with a drink called "Friday I'm In Love": vodka, citrus, strawberry, mint, and bubbles. It looked beautiful when it arrived to the table and was a palate pleaser with sour, sweet, and minty flavors. They have weekly specials, classic-type cocktails, and what they call "happy meals" - a beer and shot combination. Don't fear, though, they still have Budweiser, Bud Lite, Miller High Life, and other draft beers for those feeling more traditional Upper Valley. We also ordered one of their charcuterie boards that featured local selections of cheese and meats, olives, pickled vegetables, cured mustards, and a baguette. A great selection but like most of Wolf Tree, a little on the expensive side. Overall I enjoyed my first trip to Wolf Tree and I'm glad hip places like this exist in the Upper Valley.
