i finally visited this restaurant for the first time ever. i have been missing out on all my twenty years wow!! i ordered the letter e so did my dad (stir fry chow mein, mar far chicken, and sweet sour pork) and my sister ordered letter c (stir fry chow mein, fried rice, and vegetables egg rolls). omg i love their food, they were so delicious! the chow mein has a lot of bean sprouts and other vegetables which was healthy and yummy. the fried rice was also yummy. the mar far chicken.. what.... oh my go...... i as in myself a chicken lover.. this was the best fried chicken i ever had!! it was so fluffy and crispy!! same with the egg rolls. my dad went to ordered two more haha. overall the place inside is very vintage and maybe could make it a little nicer. the lady was very nice and friendly. i would come back here again! their lunch combo was really cheap and good so definitely come try their delicious food. three lunch combos and two egg rolls all together for $26. not bad! abc restaurant is good too but now i rather eat at king wah read more

The food is bland and I'm pretty sure they served us the wrong thing we ordered the number four combo which has chow mein egg foo young and sweet-and-sour chicken. The egg foo young looks like a rolled up omelette and the chow mein is not even close to chow mein. WOW!!! I gotta say I just found a hidden gem! The food tastes as good as my favorite Chinese restaurant in Sacramento, who's chef has been doing it for over 60 years and Hong Kong trained. It's like it's the same cook. Authentic Chinese cuisine at its best. Please come check this place out and support their business. Service is A+. Food is A+ and I love the atmosphere too!! Tried to give this place the benefit of the doubt and regret giving them a shot. Oil tastes old, food is bland especially the hot and sour soup. It was weirdly thick and had no 'sour' flavor. Egg rolls had way too much batter. Pot stickers were mid. Such a disappointment not sure how they stay in business. Tried to support local but will never return. Lady was nice though. read more

Think worst of the worst Kitchen Nightmares episode dirty. Then, double it. We couldn't even eat it. After a few bites we threw it all away. It was awful. I love the lady who owns this place. She's so sweet and always throws in extra hot oils and egg roll sauce for free.

The food was outstanding. I think some people get turned off because when you walk in the door you can see the kitchen and yes it looks like a disaster. But....I think that many good old school Chinese family owned restaurants probably don't look much better, I just can't see it. The dining area looked clean but I took takeout so I did not inspect. I suspect that they do not use MSG because at least then there'd be some sort of flavor. The food here is bland. The BBQ pork was tinged darker than what I am used to seeing, so perhaps it was a little on the older side. The folks who run the business speak Cantonese, and I overheard a conversation about whether something was fresh or not. What they were referring to, I'm not sure. I only caught bits and pieces from where I was seated. This is Gridley, and there really isn't much around in terms of options. If I had a say, I would not eat here again. Ok, alot of this may just be nostalgia but I have alway enjoined this particular restaurant. Maybe it is becuase I have been coming here since I was around 10yrs, I'm 45 yrs now. But I still enjoy it.. The Resturant. The food is hot, basic, tasty & what you would expect from an old school Chinese restaurant. The decor is also basic & what you would expect of an old school Chinese restaurant. It is family owned & operated & they staff is always so very polite and freindy. I have lived in Reno for the last 20 yrs but was raised in Gridley and I still have family here so I visit atleast a couple of times a year. My grandmother used to live in the cute litte green house across the street from the resturant before it brunt down in the late 90's.. When I'm in town I always stop in & order the number 6, Love the MarFar. The owner Sue always remembers me & asks about my family. It's almost a tradition at this point. I'll keep coming back as the food is good and it reminds me that some things should never change & this little plave will always be a good reminder of home & a great childhood... read more

I went here with a group of co-workers, while in the area on business and was pleasantly surprised by the service, food quality and price. The food was freshly and skillfully prepared and Susan (female owner) was exceptionally friendly and kept checking on us. The place may appear a little dated, but do not judge a book by the cover. read more

Good food! But I suggest taking it to go. I was very disappointed with the other chinese food place in Gridley, so we are glad we found some chinese food with good flavor. And we don't have to pay an arm and a leg for it. I have only tried the chicken chow mien and the sweet & sour chicken. The sweet & sour chicken was typical, but I really liked the pan fried noodles and seasoning in the chicken chow mien. It was very close to the chicken chow mien at Tong Fong Low in Oroville, which is a compliment. The building is really dingy and dirty looking, so I recommend taking food to go :) read more

Hate to say it but the food has gone down hill. Really nice owners and they try their best but sometimes its best to call it quits.

What can I say, I love this place. A few important things to note. This is not a fancy place nor is it real Chinese food...It just tastes good! The family that owns the place is always polite. Inside is nothing fancy. I grew up eating this food and it has always been consistently good. If you expect real chinese food like that from China town or an upscale Chinese..this is not your place. Again, I give it 4 stars because it is always consistently good. For Gridley that is a big thing, and it has been in Gridley for well over 20 years. That says a lot. read more

The food was so good! It wasn't heavy or greasy or cheap tasting. I especially liked the egg drop soup, it was different from what I've had in other restaurants. The Mar Far chicken was great as was the sweet & sour pork. I'll be back ASAP! I can't wait to try the chow mein! read more

Very nice people from Hong Kong own the place. After living in Connecticut for years and tasting the poor excuse for Chinese food there, this place was amazing. My husband and I have been back twice and will continue to return. I agree with the other reviewers that said this place isn't fancy...but who cares, the food's amazing.
