First time doing any type of winter vacationing activity in NH (even though it was tubing) and the experience was amazing. The attendants were nice and informative with laughs and smiles!, paths and walking areas were neatly maintained and each area was designated with music to keep the moods and party going! I went snowboarding today and I only needed snowboarding boots and you have to rent the whole snowboard package just to get the boots then the rental shop took forever to get what you needed I had to step in and tell them we were waiting then the boots didn't even stay tight they kept coming un loose then the back trails lift was VERY slippery the material is not the best and it's only on that lift also I under stand it's a ski resort but the food is so expensive I spent $12.30 just on 6 chicken wings then they forgot my ranch and overall the service is slow but the terrain park is not the best for beginners that want to hit jumps read more

Don't go to this mountain unless you want your brand new 600$ board stolen. I was literally feet away from it helping my daughter and when I turned around it was gone. The staff didn't even offer to check cameras or anything just that it was probably an "accident" and they will let us know if it turns up. not all the trails where open and the terrain park wasn't open. also there was a wide open ally way to go threw and when we went threw we got yelled at after and then one of the workers pushed my friends. but the good things were that the night skiing looks sick and the lift are pretty fast but they stop a lot. another good thing is that there is a lot of jumps on the side of the trails. read more

We decided to forego skiing (given that it was rather warm and there was minimal snow at the time) and instead decided to use the snowshoeing trails. We chose a lovely little trek maybe around a mile in distance that went mostly around the lake. Its a great trail for beginners, mostly flat with only 1-2 larger inclines and a pretty nice view across the frozen lake. Basically if you want to take a "longer" winter walk, this is the place for you. We had a great time! read more

The area is ok, but it's really inefficiently run. We've had a pretty good experience in the past, but recently were left with a bad taste in our mouths. We took our daughter for a ski lesson and everything was incredibly backed up and we (and another family) almost missed our lesson despite getting there an hour in advance. The lesson was fine and the instructor was very nice, although what had been advertised as a 4:1 ratio was actually a 6:1 ratio. Parents who were on the bunny slope independently with their kids were standing in the way of kids coming down and nobody was stopping them. My husband went another day to ski and he said that it was mayhem and that the rental line had about 75 people on it. One guy said that his party got there 9 am and they finally got on the lifts at noon. He overheard a mother of 3 crying because they all missed lessons because they couldn't get their rental equipment on time. We also booked tubing, but it wound up snowing. When we called to see if we could take a rain check to another day to avoid significant driving in the snow, my husband was told that other people seemed to have no problem and that there's no flexibility if we don't use the tickets. The staff were all working, but it seems to be a problem of a disorganized system and maybe understaffing. We were surprised at the level of flexibility provided to customers, especially considering that there really are other good options read more

My wife and daughter bought tickets, ski rentals etc. on line and arrived at the mountain to learn there was a planned electrical outage. They were told repeatedly it would be repaired soon, after two hours waiting in line they left. I called about a refund and were told they would offer a night package instead which is unacceptable. The cost of the package was over $ 200.00. What I learned from this experience at King Pine is NEVER buy your tickets on line, there is no advantage as you wait in the same line as everyone else. The advantage of buying at the mountain is they don't have your money which they will never refund. It's apparently a poorly run business where money is king and the customer is their cash cow. read more

Prior to our last two experiences, we had been to King Pines about a dozen times, as our kids learned to ski, and there is no denying it is a great little beginners hill. The last two times, I feel confident in saying the staff has gone down hill(No pun intended), more specifically the lift operators. The last incident happened was enough for us to never go back to that place, ever. Myself, my son and his friend who are both 8 years old, and pretty wise to getting on and off the chairs made our way to hop on a chair, the old, cranky, cantankerous and probably still half drunk lift operator, who was clearly distracted with the conversation he was having with another employee realized he was late to grabbing the chair, so he grabs it late which then makes it come swinging down and literally knocks my sons friend over, which then prompted the operator to stop the lift - The guy then actually has the balls to yell at us, spewing some undecipherable gibberish about "Never do that again". The group behind us, who we were not associated with started hollering at the operator for not paying attention. I went from 0-60 on him, yelling at him for being dangerously distracted, and that he better not start the chairs until we were all sitting on what was now the next chair, he starts mumbling something about it not being his job to help people onto the chair, which only prompted me to head towards him for a quick education on manners. At this point the other person he was talking to helped our friend up, and onto the chair. I thanked her, and we went on our way. We came down the mountain, I sent the kids off with my wife. I headed back to the lift to get the guys name, who was no longer working that lift, or anywhere to seen. Not surprising, his replacement did no know who replaced and suggested I talk to management. Which I did, and to be honest the manager vibe was evident that couldn't have been bothered by any of it, and said he would look into it. He took my name and number, and literally walked away because his lunch was getting cold. No apologies, no interest in how the events unfolded...He was completely glossed over at "I have a complaint". read more

This ski area does not limit ticket sales and is quickly overwhelmed. It may be terrific outside of school break weeks, but if the parking lot is full - so is everything else. The ONLY way to enjoy this place is if you bring your own gear and food. While ths staff is unfailingly nice (particularly the harried boot and ski fitters) it's not ready to handle real crowds. One frenzied hour to get two teens fitted for rentals lead to lessons that can charitably be described as improvised. Half the beginner's hill was occupied by snowboarders, sitting down. We were in line for ski gear at 10:30 and barely made a noon lesson. By 2pm, that line was three floors high and nearly three hours long. Never again. read more

Not sure I can add to Lauren's lovely and thorough review here, except to say that this is one of those great ski hills that ALSO has groomed XC ski AND snowshoe trails, too! We went with an AMC group, so needed a lot of options. If you're vacationing in the area, there is plenty of hiking nearby, too. Of course King Pine rents any equipment you could want, and has a gift shop if you forgot an extra fleece or need a non-nalgene water bottle, or even poles. Everyone we met was friendly and helpful. Lots of parking. We watched skiers, young and old, coming down the hill from our spot in the lodge where we ate lunch. Trail passes are only 9 clams if you have your own gear. And those trails are gorgeous, what with snaking through the Enchanted Forest and the adjacent Audubon land. Check out their website for details. read more

My son purchased a lift ticket in advance. Due to a family emergency, my husband called and spoke to Amanda regarding a refund or credit for our son. Amanda said she needed to speak to our son directly, since he did not purchase the insurance. My son was able to call and was subsequently denied a refund. We are saddened King Pine did not make an exception. There are many other options in the area, and due to this experience, we would not recommend. We are a large family of avid skiers and will continue to frequent Attitash, Wild Cat and Bretton Woods, whose staff always goes above and beyond, unlike King Pine. This review is only for the cross country trails. I went cross country skiing at King Pine with my cousin this past Saturday. The staff at the ski rental area were friendly and helpful in finding us fitting equipment, but didn't seem to know the trails when we asked where we should begin. We were handed a map and sent on our way. Past the bunny slope, behind the snow tubing, across a moderately trafficked road, and around the tennis courts is where our trail began. According to the confusing map, the trail was green-the easiest. I thought this was appropriate since it was my cousin's first time cross country skiing. I xc ski every winter and she is an advanced down hill skier and we both agreed that this trail was way more advanced than the map claimed. The slopes were very steep and the turns were sharp, but we gave it a shot. We stopped pretty quickly into this first trail to look at our map again, hoping to find a near-by alternate route. It looked like if we crossed the road a little further along the trail, we could find another trail that followed the lake. We continued along the first trail a little farther, adjacent to what appeared to be people's back yards. Finally we came to a steep slope that was intended to be walked down if one wanted to change trails. We carefully walked down, crossed the road again, and realized that our lake-side trail involved skiing on the frozen lake itself, which neither of us were comfortable doing. At this point, we were both ready to give up and go complain, but I suggested we try one more route that runs set back from the lake. We carefully made our way down another hill right next to some sort of spa and followed the signs for xc routes. This last trail was flatter and more similar to the xc trails I am used to. Since this trail terminated at the lake, we had to turn around and go back the way we came...up a hill, across a road, up another hill, down steep slopes, across the road again, around the snow tubing area, bunny slopes, and finally to the ski rental area. I will not be returning for xc skiing and would only recommend it to very advanced xc skiers. I would try the downhill skiing, though. read more

I made reservations 3 weeks in advance for school break for my girls to take lessons, we show up 90 mins early and the outdated syste couldn't find my reservations, then after 40 mins they tell us we're all set head to the equipment tent, then 45 mins later we get our equipment, so we get dressed and walk the 100' to the spot to meet which we could see from where we were and nobody was there to let them know it wasn't our fault we are still waiting for our equipment, then we get there at 1140 exactly and a woman comes out and explains they are rescheduling us because they give a 5 min grace period so we are 5 mins late for our 1130 appointment that is 90 mins long, I explained we were not late we were waiting for our equipment but they would not refund us and NOT one single person from this company would respond to my emails all with receipts and proof of us being there and what happened, this company is all about money!!! read more

A Jewel! Nestled on the border of Maine and New Hampshire, this quaint Ski area is a find! Location: The drive is BEAUTIFUL!!! I travel up from Boston, and we just toss in some good tunes and go. It's situated in the White Mountains area, so it's pretty picturesque. It's off the main roads by about 20 minutes but the signs are clearly marked, so even though I'm pretty bad with directions, there was never any danger of getting lost. Easy to drive to and easy to get to! Once you're there, the parking is great, practically as close to the lift as you can get! Business: The people are wonderful! All the employee's are kind and helpful and eager to get you on the snow. It's a small mountain so the main lodge is located right at the base of the front runs, and you'll find everything from lift tickets, to rentals, to food and drinks all within view of the main lift and the trailing end of the terrain park (where a great lunch time activity is to watch the kids making insane jumps.). The lift operators are very friendly and they actually seem to be enjoying their job. I've been to many of the bigger resorts and I've never seen the lift operators unless something goes awry, and when I am dangling on a chair many feet above packed snow, I feel better knowing someone has an eye on things. Snow: The snow is PRISTINE!!! This place has hands down - the BEST conditions and the BEST snow I've seen. I've never found a patch of ice, chunks of ice, or rocks, and I went back 5 times this past season. There are a few ungroomed runs, but in all, it is nice and clean, and smooth. These conditions are great for beginners too, who don't want to deal with unforseen pitfalls in the snow. Terrain: The trails are beautiful and range from easy to challenging. The runs are a little short, but that's due to the size of the mountain. The skiing here is wonderful! They have also built a terrain park as well. I've skied through it but not on it, and people definitely seem to enjoy themselves. Family Friendliness: This is definitely a family resort. I've seen all groups here enjoying themselves. From Kids to adults, the place is teeming with sunshine and enjoyment. They also have tubing for those who want to hit the snow, but don't actually ski or board. There's something for everyone here. This place is the bee's knees of smaller ski resorts. It's a great day trip that doesn't break the bank. I have never once had a bad experience, or even found anything to complain about. I love skiing here and I look forward to next season with the lifts are re-opened. read more

This place is PERFECT for beginning skiers! I could actually make a whole run (on a green trail...) after only one hour. The staff here is all extremely helpful and very nice. The trails were well groomed, even at 3:00 in the afternoon and there were no lines at the 3 lifts I used. We were going to go to Cranmore but the lift tickets were so expensive (especially when considering the fact that I was brand new to skiing) so we chose King Pine instead. Worth it! PROS: Price, additional activities like ice skating & tubing, SEVERAL bunny slopes for different ages, good place for kids, good place for adults who are learning to regain their dignity, and they have night skiing! CONS: Advanced skiers will be very bored. read more

Went here for ski lessons with the kids. At first it was a bit disorganized but the ladies at the front desk were helpful and pleasant. The equipment rental tent was terrible. It took 30 minutes to get all our gear making us 10 minutes late for our lesson. All geared up, the woman to check in for the lessons ever so smugly told us we only get a "five minute grace period. So now I have 4 kids geared up in ski boots, lugging skis and poles and we're told the only thing they can do is put us in the next class which was 2 hours later. She was so rude and seemed almost happy to be able to exert her power over others. We then asked to speak to a manger who said they can't refund us any portion of the almost $700 we had spent. If I can save someone time, money and aggravation by rerouting them to Cranmore (a bit more expensive, but much more organized and accommodating) then I won't feel as ripped off. read more

This is probably the best place to learn how to ski in New England. It is almost never crowded and the conditions are almost always excellent - even at the end of the day. The blues and blacks are quite fun and they have some very easy greens for beginners. The cross-country skiing is not that good because this area gets much less snow than the higher elevation cross-country ski touring centers in the White Mountains (i.e. Jackson, Bretton Woods, etc.). The ice-skating rink is a bit creepy but it is covered. Only $22 to ski on Sunday afternoons! (2012/2013 winter season) read more

Went tubing here on Wednesday and at Gunstock Thursday. While Gunstocks' tubing runs are a little longer, so are the lines. We only got 6 runs in 2 hours as opposed to 12-15 at King Pine. Plus Gunstock is $8 more per person. The people working at King Pine were also great. Very polite and would even ask if you want to be spun down the run. They really made a great impression on me and my family. Spend time having fun, not waiting in line. Go to King Pine. read more

Yesterday was my first time skiing! It was an amazing experience and I will deifinety be back! I took a lesson with Mark V and he was absolutely amazing! I was super nervous but he really helped me though it and I ended up totally LOVING IT!! He is a great teacher and I learned so much! I don't think I would have had such a positive experience if I hadn't have had him as an instructor. After my lesson, I was able to make it down all of the greens and 2 of the blues!! This was my first time EVER on skis! Garret, the attendant in the ski rental area is wonderful as well! Very personable! He really took the time to make sure all of our equipment fit right. And Bruce, the bartender is amazing as well! He even wrote us out directions home because we didn't know our way! All in all, I had the best experience I believe possible and I will be raving about my trip forever!! THANK YOU ALL!! read more

I agree with many of the comments posted but everyone who goes to King Pine should know that this is a high crime ski area. You really need to pay attention to locking your skies and snowboards when you go inside to warm up or get a snack. Also, while you are out on the slopes, your boots, extra mittens or goggles are not safe unless you LOCK them up. Leaving them in the lodge supplied cubbies is like giving your things away for free. Guests from the upper lodge come down the back stairs, steal your things and quickly disappear up the steps from where they've come. I have witnessed this, spoken to the people at the tickets desk about what I've seen. Their reply was to use the lockers. They couldn't believe something was stolen. When I reported our theft to the Madison Police, they confirmed this was a big problem at this little resort. Go, enjoy, but lock up your stuff, or you will have to, like me, explain to your son and his friends why they don't have their new snowboard bags anymore. 30 minutes more and you can be at Cranmore where they take security seriously. read more

This is a poor resort to ski black runs, -1. There are not many black runs and no double blacks (open) the day we went. The black was a nice black because it was nice-n-icy. and just narrow, which made it challenging in ways that other blacks are not +1 star! the other runs had boring plain nice good snow. There is lots of tree-level skiing, and there are a lot of bloody pines, for sure. -1 for too many bloody pines. also, -1 for snowing on the day we went. If you can be all-mountain here, you are ready for the big leagues! read more

This is an excellent place to take beginner skiers. They offer excellent instructional programs and their prices are VERY reasonable. I took my girlfriend here for her first skiing experience and she was intimidated that we were going "to the White Mountains" rather than to some local hill. Realistically, this place is somewhere between a small mountain and a big hill. My girlfriend was able to ski from the top after her first day of instruction. We left very happy, and this would be my first stop if I were to introduce anyone else to the sport. read more

Mask Naxis. Was having a wonderful day today Jan 7, 2021. Conditions were great, uncrowded, beautiful sunny day, was on the Polar Bear chairlift by myself about 11;30 am about to get off the lift near top. My neck warmer/ mask was just below my mouth and lift operator in the booth is pounding on the window, yelling at me to put on my mask. I'm very conscientious about the mask, no one was near me, on the lift chair alone. I always wear it at the bottom in the waiting line to get on the lift, wear it in the lodge to use the rest room, wear it in the parking lot. I always put it on again when I get off the lift , but do not wear it up the lift as I'm by myself, or when I'm skiing down the slope(I believe your code says okay not to wear on slope). I actually apologized to the guy who was yelling at me, but I thought he was over the top and could have handled it better, just shouting out, mind putting on your mask. really kind of wrecked an otherwise nice day. Yesterday was probably worst service we have had not only at a ski area but ever. We attended pond skimming day Sunday, March 26, 2017. First off the elderly lady at the front desk check in was rude and uninformative. We had a party of two adults and two kids (1 ten year old and 1 six year old). The kids were all set with their tickets but the lady made us adults pay full price ($110 for both) even though we were technically only skiing until 12:30. The one adult and two kids were doing the pond skimming and she said that we all needed a full price tickets for that event, (which we didn't). Even if we needed full price tickets to do pond skimming I should have only had to pay for one half day and one full day, since only one adult was pond skimming. Also, my 10 year old son asked that same lady if they win prizes for going across the pond. That woman gave him attitude and said "aren't there always prizes?" and then continued what she was doing. This is his first year skiing and his first time ever seeing pond skimming. I was totally unimpressed with the service of the front check in area. Second, We had issues with the person running the the top lift on the green chair lift. Twice we went up and waved to the person manning the lift at the top to slow down because we were teaching the 6 year old how to get off the lift. The person did not slow the chair down until I complained to the guy manning that lift at the bottom of the hill. Third, At noon we ordered food and went to sit down. The ketchup bottle was running empty and people were having trouble pumping to get some out. I had to physically get a spoon and scoop some out for our meal. I took the ketchup back to the kitchen and told someone about the issue with the ketchup and she looked at me like I had 5 heads. I honestly would never recommend King Pine to any of my friends especially when we drove 2+ hours to get there. It's a small ski area with less than par service. The only thing that was pleasant that day was the pond skimming event and the charismatic man showing everyone where to park in the lot. He deserves a raise. read more

I ventured over to King Pine to learn to ski while vacationing in the area. At first, I was VERY put-off by the rental staff. They were SO rude!!! However, when I found my way to where the class met, I was greeted by a few very friendly and chatty instructors. Since there was no one else there, I basically got a private lesson. I wish I remembered the instructor's name, because he was amazing. It was very clear he'd been doing this for a while, as he was patient and excellent at explaining the core concepts without being condescending. He, too, was quite chatty and made the experience very enjoyable! I would give 5 stars if it wasn't for the rental staff with the poor attitude. read more

I want to start by saying my family (and friends) have been skiing at King Pine for several years. This past weekend experience is cause for us change our opinion from the 5 stars we've experienced in the past to the 1 star. If there was an option for a negative ranking, I'd choose it- My wife and three young children learned to ski at King Pine. The children for the past couple of years look forward to their first day of skiing at King Pine. That is until our experience in the rental shop this year. In past years, The lines were long, It was way too crowded, It was loud. BUT, It was fun for the kids. Even though My wife and I are stressing out about the kids making the ten o'clock ski school class. The staff where hustling and smiling. Very helpful and assuring. Taking time to answer questions asked. You can see they were working as a well oiled machine so to speak. (I always enjoyed the music myself, Even though it was sometimes too loud) This year was not the case. RUDE, IGNORANT, ARROGANCE, ATTITUDE. Is what we experienced. After waiting in line approached the register only to find I was mischarged for helmets. An argument ensued between my wife and the attendant. This is over $4. The attendant was exceptionally rude- The second issue was equipment. One of my kids were given a boot that was damp and had a tear in the boot. I brought the boot back to staff member and asked for another one. I was given another pair of boots. I made a point to tell the person handing out the skis that we had to change boots and a different boot was given. I was told it would fit the ski. It did not. After being a few minutes late for the lesson, The instructor had to personally take the ski and my child back in to the ski shop to fix the binding. AFTER I had asked to make sure it was done. The next one was when I wanted my personal skis tuned while having lunch. I was told they could be done by the time I was finished lunch. I did get them as promised. Problem is I couldn't ski on them. I felt like i was being controlled by the ski. I struggled to turn them. I brought them back in to be fixed. I was told the skis were now sharp and it takes a "little getting used to". I asked for them to be less sharp. after the attitude given to me the person reluctantly took my skis out back and did what I asked too well. Not only less sharp, NOT sharp. I was all over the place!! ZERO control. I have to bring them back to the ski shop I bought them at and spend $65 to fix this- My last warning to people renting from this place. DO NOT LOSE YOUR "YELLOW COPY" The return process is a disaster. Not having this coveted slip will leave you feeling belittled and bewildered as my wife experienced (at this point I sent her in because I'd had enough of the staff in there-) I will say the ski school has always taken care of the kids. They never had a bad experience with lessons. The lift people are helpful and aware of whats going on. Unlike other mountains we frequent during the year. Even though the "big" cookies are shrinking every year, The kids always leave the mountain with a cookie for the ride home. It is unfortunate to say, But I will never take my family, Or recommend my friends to King Pine again. It was a great 4 years. Too bad it had to end on this note- read more

Such a great smaller mountain to teach kids. I cannot say enough about the ski instructors who are talented and extremely patient. They really strive to teach the kids and make sure they have a great experience. The rate for ski lift, rental equipment, and lessons can't be beat I don't think. Its a very family oriented mountain that is manageable given its size compared to other larger, often confusing mountains. We've gone for two years straight and plan to return for several more years. When the kids are in ski school there are more challenging trails for experienced skiers. We also do the tubing one day which everyone enjoys as well. read more

King Pine is an excellent place for beginners. With multiple "green" trails that are very easy to learn on and blue and black trails for the more experienced. An advanced skier might find this resort a little boring but if you're with a beginner it will definitely keep you entertained. Would absolutely recommend. read more

This old-fashioned ski area offers great skiing for the beginner, with enough variety to keep it interesting but without the huge crowds at larger ski areas. The parking lot attendants are always very friendly. Most but not all of the lift attendants are friendly and helpful too. But it's inside the lodge where this place is substandard. One of the two men's paper dispensers was empty all day, one of the busiest--and I'm sure most profitable--days of the year during Xmas school vacation week. The bathrooms smell. The "lodge" is tired and clearly needs some updating. The worst experience is the cafeteria. Mediocre food with surly and disinterested staff. We waited for nearly 2 minutes and no one would wait on us at the grille, even though we counted at least 5 people behind the counter prepping. Later mentioned it to guest services manager and she thanked me for the feedback and acknowledged that this was not the first time she heard complaints about the grumpy cafeteria staff. read more
