We decided to forego skiing (given that it was rather warm and there was minimal snow at the time) and instead decided to use the snowshoeing trails. We chose a lovely little trek maybe around a mile in distance that went mostly around the lake. Its a great trail for beginners, mostly flat with only 1-2 larger inclines and a pretty nice view across the frozen lake. Basically if you want to take a "longer" winter walk, this is the place for you. We had a great time!

    Beautifully groomed XC ski trails!!!!

Not sure I can add to Lauren's lovely and thorough review here, except to say that this is one of those great ski hills that ALSO has groomed XC ski AND snowshoe trails, too! We went with an AMC group, so needed a lot of options. If you're vacationing in the area, there is plenty of hiking nearby, too. Of course King Pine rents any equipment you could want, and has a gift shop if you forgot an extra fleece or need a non-nalgene water bottle, or even poles. Everyone we met was friendly and helpful. Lots of parking. We watched skiers, young and old, coming down the hill from our spot in the lodge where we ate lunch. Trail passes are only 9 clams if you have your own gear. And those trails are gorgeous, what with snaking through the Enchanted Forest and the adjacent Audubon land. Check out their website for details.

Such a great time right after a snow storm, trails for all levels of skiers, and a nice lodge.

Ski rental line was crazy. Total incompetence. Waited 2 hours for my kids to get their skis. Management should do something about this.

While happy with my slow but steady…read moreprogress, I'm often looking for ski locations offering trails that align with my current ability and offer a bit of a challenge when I'm up for it. Cranmore delivered just that and more. Lots of greens and blues where I could work on my skills, try trails with escalating difficulty, and still kick back when I just want to enjoy myself and not be a ball of nerves. I also enjoyed the length and variety of their many trails I could traverse. Was happy to have more options than just a quick up and down in a straight line over a full day of skiing. Their main lift was quick and skiers were able to load efficiently. Lots to look at on the way up. The day of my last visit there were several ski competitions going on just next to the lift so it was fun to watch people competing and see spectators make the trek up to watch as well. Ski patrol were out and about and lots of staff available to check in with as needed. The lodge itself had everything I needed... free cubbies to store your stuff, bench seating to change into your boots, adequate table space both up and downstairs to grab a bite to eat, indoor and outdoor gas fireplaces to huddle by, a bar and hot foods, and best of all... a bathroom at the same level as where you can ski up to so no having to navigate stairs in clunky footwear. Drop off area for skis, quick in and out to purchase tickets, simple walk over to a very large parking area. I can't wait to return when the opportunity arises!

If you are in a wheelchair or have issues maneuvering stairs, call the resort to discuss options. There are no elevators or ramps at the Inn. The Inn is not a building to choose if you require a wheelchair or limited stair use. That also means that the restaurant and bar are not an option, either, as they are both inside of the Inn. The resort is on both sides of Route 153. There are multiple buildings. The check-in office is in the Mill. The staff are incredibly nice and accommodating. Upon entering the Inn, there's a strong, odd smell, but it was not in the room. The room surprised me. We booked a room that had a king bed and 2 twin beds. The twin beds are separated from the King bed allowing us to shut the door. The bathroom was in the room with the twin beds. There was also a sink, microwave, coffee and small refrigerator. Very comfortable beds. The room appeared to be relatively recently updated compared to the rest of the Inn. We were comfortable and it was a nice stay. They did a great job with the wedding reception, which was across the street from the Inn and beside the lake. We were truly impressed with the staff, the property, their great work with detail for the wedding and our comfortable stay.

Not only is the location great, the owner, Matt is absolutely fantastic. The hiking all around the yurts is perfect for kids and we find so much to do. If we were feeling cooped up and wanted to go out Brownfield is so close to great hiking, skiing, and paddling we could easily do that, but we have not wanted to leave the yurts. Matt, the owner is so fun and personable. He really cares about his customers and worked with us when we needed to reschedule repeatedly. I have stayed at other yurts in Maine before, but never more than once. Frost Mountain Yurts will always be my favorite spot. Logistically know that it is very easy to get to your yurt. The trails are very well marked and the sled or cart you use is big and it's really nothing to get there but then you feel completely secluded. Mountain View Yurt is the only one that has felt a little far, but the view is totally worth it. The outhouses are super clean and the yurt is very clean and cozy. There is an option to have Matt warm up your yurt for you upon arrival and I totally recommend that in the winter.

We stayed at the "Mountain View" yurt, which is about a half mile walk along a nice trail. They supply you with carts in the non snow season and sled during the snowy season. If you are going to see a show at Stone Mountain Arts Center, it's the perfect, nearby spot to stay. At this point I've been to Frost Mountain 4 or 5 times. We've done the romantic version, where you see a show and then go back to the cozy, warm yurt. The kid version, where you pack the yurt full of children and let them run around in the woods during the day. And the group version with adults, where you drink and play cards by fire light. Each version of our stay was perfect and I can't wait to go back! Highly recommend!

This review is for the ski school only. Do not spend your money on lessons here for children,…read moreespecially when there are so many other wonderful (not Vail-owned) options in the area. While I'm sure there are some fine instructors on staff here and at Wildcat, our multi-family group has taken our kids to these mountains now two years in a row, and had repeatedly horrible experiences. We kept thinking it was just a poor match or bad luck, and thought we'd give it another try this winter. Unfortunately both mountains let us down, with two different older, male instructors who clearly are working just for employee benefits and do not have the patience or proper training to work well with kids. In our most recent experience at Attitash, all 3 kids (not tiny ones, mind you - ranging in age from 8 to 12, each with prior skiing and lesson experience) were in tears by mid lesson. The instructor was excessively gruff and curt, and angry with his employer for how they schedule lessons - which he apparently decided to take out on his students. When we had to intervene, he graced us with a monologue about his alleged experience with kids on the autism spectrum - apparently to claim what a sensitive and wonderful teacher he is, and that our childrens' "special needs" must simply be off the charts. This assessment is not only clinically inaccurate, but an absolutely unacceptable excuse for his failure as an instructor. If you want your kids to fall in love with skiing/riding, take them to lessons at any other resort in the area - it's too much of a gamble that you'll end up with one of these guys at Attitash or Wildcat.

This place has come a long way from just a few years ago. I've read the pejorative comments about…read moretheir service, and although we did experience a lack of customer service, such was not the case today. We got here about 1030 AM. From previous experience, we parked at the Bear Lodge parking lot. Their Covid-19 protocols were in force and we were thankful to the staff for them. That continued with minor exceptions, for the entire day. We absolutely love the Bear Peak Lodge area to start the day at Attitash. For starters, the parking area is closer to the lodge. If you arrive early enough, you can park just feet away from the lodge. Even if you arrive later, it's a short walk. The Lodge is one large, functional building with everything within, from support functions to cafeteria, bar and restrooms. From there, it's a level and short walk to the Bear Peak Quad, whisking you to the top with little delay. From there, wonderfully long Blue cruisers and numerous glades are available on the Bear Peak side. As well, several challenging and a few absolutely enjoyable black diamond runs. It is worth noting that although slow, the Abenaki Quad is a nice alternative if one finds themselves on the runs in the Eastern edge of Bear Peak, towards the Attitash Peak. It's a convenient way to get up the mountain without schlepping it on the Bearback trail. From the Bear Peak, the access to Attitash Peak is an easy route, although a bit level in some places. The Summit Triple takes you all the way to the top with amazing - truly spectacular views. However, they're overdue in replacing it. You could read three chapters of Anna Karenina while on the lift. It is exasperatingly slow. The Flying Yankee quad is way faster but it only covers the lower half of the mountain. Although Attitash Peak has the best and most challenging trails, it nonetheless suffers from outdated and some times frustrating infrastructure. Overall, Attitash is well worth a visit. The terrain, views, staff, grooming, glades, and overall experience makes this Vail resort a little gem in the collection.
