Terrible place. Came here because I really wanted a gel manicure and all the other places had long appointment times. This was walking distance and accepted walk-ins. I was immediately given the color wheel to choose from and I chose with a mauve-nude color. hey made me pay before they even put any polish on which I thought was weird... how do I tip BEFORE my nails are even done? Anyways, I pay and even tip. When she starts painting them, the color is bubble-gum pink-- I ask if thats the same color as then one I chose and she said yes. Well... I choose a new color. Once my nails are dry, I notice one finger looks bad since she got paint underneath my nail and now it looks gumpy (is that even a word?) She insists that its my nails and that I cam in with DIRTY NAILS. huh? She then asks if I dye my hair and maybe accidentally stained my nails? huh? I've literally never dyed my hair and my nails were clean... I ask her again to fix it since it doesn't look nice. Another customer even checked them out and agreed. The worker simply applies another gel top coat and calls it a day. For reference: my previous gel manicure lasted me 20 days with no chips. Yet, here we are... 4 days later after paying this place and my mani is chipped. I knew it wouldn't last since before I left I asked about it and I expressed my concern. The only reason why I am giving this place 2 stars instead of 1 is only because of Jennifer and her amazing eyebrow job !! My regular go to nail place is closed on Tuesday so I thought I would give this place a chance. I will never come back other than doing my eyebrows!! First off, the customer service is zero ! When you walk in you do not get a friendly hello, instead it's a instant "what do you need". I asked for a full set, coffin shaped. My nails look all types of shapes. It's a total sloppy job ! Trust me I'm not one of those people that are so picky about their nails but I will speak up when I need to. The more I told the guy who did my nails that something was wrong, the more of a sloppy job he did. The color is wrong and he didn't even bother taking off the polish that's on my skin. I only come here to wax my brows! Walked in and walked over to the eyebrow "station." If you don't know where it is, just ask! Everyone is pretty friendly inside (especially the lady that does your brows). There's only one woman that does brows. haha Maybe I always come in the right time... but I always get seated right away! Wow! I am so happy I found this place! After years of paying Marina prices and never knowing whether the quality of my gel acrylic and shellac mani/pedi would suffer if too many clients arrived around the same time as I did, THIS was a breath of fresh air! The woman who did my nails, Jennifer, is genuinely warm and friendly. She has worked there for 16 years, I believe, and has loyal clients who have been regulars for years. Jennifer manages the salon in an efficient, calm manner. She delegates quickly and easily and managed to do 6 or 7 waxes while I was getting my pedicure, without wasting one minute if my time! The most endearing aspect of my experience at King Nails was that every person who walked in was greeted by their first name when the nail technicians said hello in a sincerely kind manner. Almost every client walked in without an appointment but did not wait long at all. I asked Jennifer how she became so good at management and also how she is able to do such beautiful designs on nails (She can copy any photo you show hrs using paint, gems, charms, etc.) Jennifer told me that she loved what she does, so it's easy to do her very best work each day, and to build relationships with her valued clients. Hands down, King Nails is my new spot...and the prices will allow me to budget in a few more starbucks drinks each week, too! **A note about pricing: the one dollar sign is because it is less expensive than other salons, in comparison. I appreciated how they only replaced my gel acrylics that needed to be replaced and just filled the rest to save time and money. King's Hair & Nails is my favorite inexpensive, slightly ghetto nail salon. When I was in high school my friends and I would walk up to King's during lunch and get our eyebrows waxed (we were very well groomed teens). I don't know about the 'hair' part of the business name, but maybe they are referring to hair removal. Jennifer is the most amazing eyebrow groomer I have ever gone too (including the expensive Marina-y type places). You will see how popular she is by the line that is almost constantly present. I think the other women must be decent brow waxers as well, but Jennifer is clearly the star. King's is organized chaos, so when you walk in just say "Jennifer-eyebrow" and they will command you to sit down and wait. Jenn is meticulous, she trims any unruly hairs with tiny scissors, then expertly (and mostly non-painfully) waxes, then she finishes with the tweezers. She also laughs sweetly at my attempts at Vietnamese, which doesn't make me feel quite as silly. All of this for $7 (prices might have gone up a tad, but probably not by much). You will never go to the white ladies for a $30 eyebrow wax again. read more

Thanks to yelpers, I have finally found my eyebrow guru. For only $8.00, Jennifer will make you look like a star! Well, at least I felt THAT GREAT after getting my eyebrows waxed yesterday. I usually go to Sunshine Nails and ask for Diane, but sadly, she had moved to Antioch and I couldn't get a hold of her. After leaving me (j/k), my eyebrows became out of control, and I just couldn't mimic what Diane had done for me in the past. Well, this is why I'm not a professional eyebrow waxer. I can't even take care of my own eyebrows. And not even the owner, Nancy, from Sunshine, meets my expectation. THANK GOODNESS I found Jennifer on yelp. She seriously deserves all the praises. I dropped into King's yesterday without an appointment, and I only had to wait for five minutes. Yes, it's not a spa. And the floors are the complete opposite of Saks Fifth Avenue's, but I can care less so as long as I'm getting my perfect eyebrows. Interestingly, you don't need to lay down. You are seated on a regular office chair at the corner, where the wax supplies are. I just told Jennifer that I needed a "clean up, trim, and not-too-thin" and she did her magic. I didn't even ask for an arch, but Jennifer gave my eyebrows definition/dimension. She took her time to make sure both sides were even and plucked out all the extra hair that didn't get waxed off. I've been a customer for years now getting my eyebrows done from Jennifer, but for some strange reason, every since she came back from her vacation, she's been f#%king up big time on my eyebrows lately. PLEASE READ BEFORE GOING!!! IMPORTANT HEALTH DISCLAIMER!!! It pains me to write this review. When I discovered this nail salon I fell in love. Fills and acrylic sets at the cheapest I've ever seen them. But after this I WILL NEVER GO AGAIN. I decided to soak off my nails because they were grown out and I didn't have the time to go in for a fill. Good thing I did because I noticed instead of easily breaking down and coming off, the "acrylic" became sticky and gooey. It resembled that glue tape that sticks samples to magazines. I had done some research to find that is what taking off MMA with acetone looks like. MMA is a harmful substance that is not meant to come into contact with skin and nails. When being taken off, real acrylic does not get sticky and gooey. Long-term contact with MMA can cause numbness in fingers, permanent nail damage, and even cause nails to fall off. The FDA deems MMA a "poisonous and deleterious substance," and most salons charging cheap prices tend to use MMA. I'll upload the pictures if I can...I've never used Yelp and I would never care enough to write a review but this is too important. read more

Besides the obvious cleanliness factor, this place is horrible. Trust me, the price is definitely not worth the hassel. The place is crowded and the smell is overbaring. The technicians (if you can call them that) are rude, and don't believe in the term customer service. The least they can do is ask you what you want before they begin filing down your nails. Don't mind the ghetto location and look. If you're looking for a good mani/pedi at the most affordable price - this is the place to go. The staff is about as nice as any salon/nail place staff is going to get. If you're looking for a spa pedicure then this is not your place because they pull up the ghetto carts and do it right at the manicure stations. They still do a good job, though. Seven years' experience of going to King has taught me that your experience will vary according to whom you get and what you get done; here's the breakdown: EYEBROWS by Jennifer: Awesome, 5 out of 5. I've tried a few other places just out of curiosity, but no one compares to her. You'll probably have to wait awhile since she's the only waxer and the best with the nail designs, but considering what you get for the price, totally worth it. NAILS: I'd only recommend Jennifer or the guy, and even then, 3 out of 5 because of the prices and wait-time. Better value and service elsewhere. The place is small, usually crowded, and not well-ventilated - prepare yourself for the fumes. Beware the crowds on the 1st and 15th. *Eyebrow Wax Review* I've been going to Jennifer at Kings Nails to get my eyebrows waxed for ten years! I haven't got my brows waxed by anyone else. Though I'm not in the neighborhood as much as I used to, to see her as often as I'd like, I always come back to Jennifer to get my brows arched perfectly and told what areas I need to stop plucking to allow a better shape to grow.
