Obsessed is an understatement. I just had my first treatment here and absolutely loved my time with Naomi. Every step of the facial feels intentional and relaxing--you're never just left alone in the room. The studio is gorgeous, the products are great, and the overall vibe is unmatched. Can't wait to come back. read more

Four months with Marija, and my skin has truly transformed. She's gentle, deeply knowledgeable, and every session feels like pure nourishment. She helped me build a skincare routine I genuinely love and I can easily maintain. I am SO grateful I found her. I love their products too: Gold, Attar, XX, Aloe, & Flora. They are nutrient-dense and delicious food for my skin. read more

Upon stepping in, I can feel a sense of calm and relaxation. I've been here twice and enjoyed my facial both times. I did a Signature Facial with Cat the first time and loved how we started with a breathing exercise with oils to set the ambiance. This second time was with Naomi. I had the Gua Sha Facial. We started with LED lights for the arms and hands which was a first for me. Both times were so relaxing I fell asleep. Unfortunately for the second time it was during the gua sha (haha) so I don't remember most of that part. My face was glowing both times. I like how they include tip in the price. I knocked off a star because they charge a $10 credit card fee but the cost is too high to be carrying cash for it. I have bought a Gua sha tool from them, specifically to help with pressure points and migraines. I also got an attar balm recommended by my aesthetician to help with my dry patches on my cheek. I recommend coming here to treat yourself! read more

you're paying a premium to listen to someone pitch you products for an hour and smear oil all over your face. Really disappointing considering all the hype. Facialist was nice and I'm sure doing what she was trained to do but it was exhausting. Came away feeling drenched in yellow oil feeling like I might've accidentally bought a timeshare. read more

My first visit at Monastery was unforgettable!! I booked with Naomi for the Super Glow Facial. She immediately had a warm & comforting demeanor that made me feel calm. I've never had any facial or massage that made me so relaxed to the point where I could focus on nothing else, but Naomi changed that!! She did such an incredible job that I just couldn't feel distracted by anything else in my life - not even the thought of what I'd eat for lunch. Her technique and procedure was both relaxing and functional, which is a huge indicator of value for me. When the facial was over, I gasped because of how soft my skin felt (I came in with pretty dry skin)! One of the biggest reasons I booked at Monastery is because they make so many of their own products with very natural ingredients. Although I didn't intend to buy products that day, I ended up leaving with the Lapiz body oil and Rose cleansing oil. I am not a skin care person, but these products might be making me look forward to it more. Also of note: Monastery was incredibly clean and quiet. Minimal and elegant. I am absolutely going to book with Naomi again, and I really hope to bring my mom here sometime soon!! read more

Don't let the aesthetic minimalism fool you. You will have the BEST facial of your life here! A visit to Monastery is a key ingredient of my dream day in San Francisco. Waffle towels, crystal gua sha, aromatherapy, quiet... no extraneous or loud distractions, no upselling, nothing fake, only the essentials and skin nourishment and relaxation. The opposite of consumerist cacophony. Bless this place! read more

Just had Unforgettable experience at this skin clinic. Best facial I ever had, and I had a facials in other clinics all over uSA. They are very knowledgeable about skin, my skin was glowing for days. They really clean your skin, and facial massage was amazing . Also had my brow laminated, and they did a great job. I had their signature facial, which I guess it's their to go treatment for new clients. Will definitely go back. Highly recommend. My facial was done my Maria. read more

Euli is amazing! I have never had someone take such good care of my skin. She is the absolute best and in a league of her own.

Lydia is awesome! I did the acne facial and she was super detail oriented! She also told me to stop using Vit C and that has made a major difference to my skin! I will definitely be back!! :) I also love that tip is included so it feels very seamless at the end! read more

After my last review, the manager at Monastery reached out to me apologizing for my experience and offering either a redo of a comparably priced service or a refund. I decided to go ahead and book a facial with Caitlin, and it was a complete 180 of an experience. Caitlin was so kind, and had a calming energy. I was immediately comfortable, and the facial itself was thorough and relaxing. I left with glowy skin, and a much more positive view of Monastery. Thanks again to the team for reaching out and offering to provide a different experience to me. read more

Monastery is my favorite place for facials in SF. Their products are great and the space is chic, cozy, and serene. I had some biases against oil-based skincare products before I tried ones from Monastery. I didn't think it'd be possible to feel hydrated/soothed from a facial oil, but my skin just soaks it all up. Rose and Gold are especially great! Also a shoutout to Seda! She is a great esthetician with great hand skills, and also just makes the entire experience a peaceful, healing one. read more

I can't say enough good things about Monastery and my experience with Seda. She is truly a talented Esthetician, not only highly skilled but she also creates the most relaxing and welcoming experience every time I have the pleasure of visiting. She takes the time to really know your skin and tailors everything to fit your needs. You are to leave happy, feeling relaxed and a new human every time you depart her. read more

*transparent review* Now, I'm sure you and I ended up here to find a good place for a good facial experience. After reading such high ratings and so many good things about their skincare line, I really did have high bars and expectations for this place. I got a Signature facial ($185 not including tip) and honestly, it was underwhelming. The store is relatively very small. The interior is bright white and modern with 2 chairs as the seating area, and a large table to display their skincare products. I can see why some people may find this kind of environment calming, but personally if anything it makes me anxious. Now the treatment, I can tell that the aesthetician was very knowledgeable. She explained everything step of the way, and suggested some products and tools that I can use to treat my skin concerns at home as well. Aside from that, the facial experience wasn't as pampering and luxurious as what the reviews were raving about. I just felt like someone else is doing my skincare routine for me. I came in and walked out with the same face--just as much pores that needs to be cleaned, and skin that needs a glow. This was also my first time getting service at this place, so I am not familiar with their ways of operating. When my aesthetician told me that I'm all set, she walked out and left. I did not know if she will come back, or if I am good to leave. I stayed around for a few minutes and ended at the front desk where I'm supposed to finalize my payment. Overall, it was an okay first facial experience for me. read more

Wow - this place definitely lives up to the hype! My facial with Lidia was one of the best I've had. Her care, knowledge, thoughtfulness, and intention showed through every moment of the facial. I walked out of there with rose colored glasses, ready to take on the world with my glorious skin. The products were also great my skin felt so smooth and velvety. read more

This was the most amazing facial! So relaxing and therapeutic. There was a combo upper body massage along with the facial. Gentle products and even had led light therapy. Highly recommend Kat! read more

I just had an amazing and relaxing dermaplaning facial with Marija. She was so gentle and made the whole experience amazing. The room is warm and the room is so nice and clean. I love her skin care recommendation for my facial concerns and the care she provided. Loved how my skin felt and looked after. My husband and mom said my skin looked bright. Highly recommend coming here. read more

I love monastery. The products are great and I don't feel like I'm getting all these chemicals. The oils all smell so wonderful and my sensitive skin fairs well with them. I regularly see Cat, she's amazing. So knowledgeable and her technique is so soothing, like a soft face massage. She uses these awesome cold tools to help calm and relax my face during the facial. My face glows and I look and feel like a goddess after my sessions with Cat. She's recommended the rose cleansing oil and flora (hyralonic cream/lotion) and I'm so happy with them for my dry, aging skin. For my next product she highly recos adding retinol to my routine and gave me a sample. Love that I can try without pressure to buy. Just found out they do brow lamination, tint and lash tint. That will be my next appointment with Cat. I can't wait. Update: a few days after my facial won't Cat, two people had commented on how young I looked. My friends husband asked me why I looked 10 years younger and second, my waiter carded me for a Bellini and said no way when they say what year I was born. read more

The moment you walk in you feel transported to a serene and calming space. The minimal decor and beautiful light certainly evokes monastic qualities, which is exactly what I needed on a hectic Thursday afternoon after a long week at work. I was immediately greeted and welcomed by the kind staff and while waiting offered a nice cool glass of water - in an actual glass! Oftentimes at spas I may feel out of place. Even though I love facials and treatin myself, I can sometimes be intimidated by the atmosphere. That was definitely not the case at monastery! It was a perfect mix of elegance and feeling at home. My esthetician Emily immediately made me feel comfortable. She was kind, funny and had a perfect balance of keeping me informed while also letting me fall deep into one of the most relaxing facials I've ever had. Some people are born to help others, and Emily's hands felt like they were made for massages and facials!! I have had a few facials from Emily (each just as wonderful as the last) and recently had an eyebrow tint and shape which lasted much longer than any other places I've gone. Even though I live in Sacramento, I can't wait to come back and get another treatment from Emily. Thank you Emily and Monastery for such a serene experience! read more

I got The Standard facial by Marija and feel my life has been forever changed. She's so incredibly knowledgeable, gentle, and kind. She asked about my skin care routine and informed me of a lot of products that aren't benefitting my skin which were all recommended by my dermatologist! She also recommended treatments I could look into for my acne scars, which I really appreciated. We spoke about whole body wellness (skin care, makeup, diet, exercise) and I really enjoyed just hanging out with her. I came out of there feeling like a glowy goddess. I will absolutely be back, and sending all my friends, too! read more

I have been a client of Seda at Monastery for the past two years and have had such an incredible experience under her care. I first went to her with a lot of redness and dryness and concerns about pigmentation in my skin. I cannot recommend Seda and Monastery highly enough. Going to a facial with her is a complete indulgence. I feel so relaxed afterwards and she has educated me so much on how to care for my skin. I started with the signature facial which she completely customized to my needs. With every return visit, she helped me make adjustments to my regimen and make improvements. It took just a few visits to see a marked improvement. She is precise, honest and knowledgeable when it comes to making product recommendations. She tries every product personally and only recommends if it is really right for you. She is a warm and radiant person and her passion for helping you be your best shines through. I have also fallen in love with Monastery's line of botanical products. They have made a remarkable difference in my skin. Before I saw Seda, I always felt I needed to use concealer and makeup. Now it's totally optional. The redness is gone, my texture is smooth and my skin is radiant again. (I'm 52) The atmosphere and aesthetics at Monastery are elegant, simple and refined. Everything about the experience leaves you feeling refreshed, pampered and cared for. I have recommended the spa and its products to my friends and family. Really can't recommend Seda and Monastery enough! read more

I had a great first experience at Monastery with Marija. I booked the Signature Facial and was amazed by how relaxed I felt. I have been meaning to book an appointment for a facial for quite some time and am pleased with my experience at Monastery. The room was very clean, I instantly felt right at home. Marija is extremely knowledgable and shared with me some advice she had regarding my skin concerns. Monastery has some great skin products and I appreciated how I did not feel pressured to purchase anything however I couldn't help myself and purchased the rose cleansing oil anyway. I would definitely come back for my future facial needs! read more

I decided to treat myself to a facial at Monastery for my birthday a few weeks back, and wow, what an incredible experience. From the moment I walked into the beautiful space, I felt calm and serene. I was a bit nervous and didn't know what to expect (since it was my first real facial), but Emily, my esthetician, was so warm welcoming, and made me feel immediately at ease. She explained each product and method she used, and made sure that I was comfortable every step of the process. I've had many foot and body massages before, but I seriously can't remember the last time I felt so relaxed, like deeply relaxed, thanks to Emily and her amazing technique. And my face was glowing for several days after! I would definitely recommend Monastery and Emily as your esthetician for all your facial and self-care needs. read more

This is the WORST experience I have ever had for brows, and the facial wasn't far behind. I went in for the microcurrent/LED "mini" facial, called the illuminate treatment, as well as a brow shape/tint. Not only did the appointment start late, the "micro current" device used was not a professional grade device, but instead one of those small handheld ones you can buy at TJ Maxx. She also extracted a pimple on my eyebrow and left it bloody and bruised--the whole reason I waited to get it professionally extracted was to AVOID a huge, bloody scar on my forehead. Then, she proceeded to completely destroy my brows. Though I requested a LIGHT tint, and specifically asked her to tint them lighter than my medium brown hair, I came out with eyebrows nearly black, looking like Groucho on steroids. Not only that, she applied the tint unevenly, so that one of my brows looked completely wonky and off from the other--it was awkwardly shortened by the tint, such that it was only tinted starting 1/4 into the brow onwards. In addition, she over plucked one of my brows in the weirdest way--it wasn't thin, but she over plucked the TOP of the brow, such that the arch had a weird dent/hole in it??? She also over plucked the tail of one brow so that one was shorter than the other. Finally, she used a RED tint on my BROWN eyebrows, so my brows look weirdly RED/BLACK. I never asked for any of this. When I walked out, the receptionist visibly looked taken aback at how bad my brows looked. I am so, so disappointed. I normally don't bother leaving reviews, but this place has 5 stars, so you need to know. WORST EVER, AVOID!!!! read more

Overdue but absolutely necessary review for the amazing facial experience with Seda at Monastery. After years of being a loyal customer, I can confidently say that Seda is an absolute expert in her craft. She not only provides exceptional care but also takes the time to inquire about my skincare needs and offers valuable advice. The products she uses are not only effective but also smell divine, leaving my skin with a super glowing radiance. The spa itself is beautifully designed, creating a truly relaxing atmosphere. I've followed Seda from her previous workplace, a testament to her unmatched skills. Her knowledge and enthusiasm for her job are evident, and it translates into a rejuvenated and radiant feeling post-facial. I always leave feeling not just pampered but genuinely relaxed. I had a wonderful experience at Athena Ellen with Marija. The standard facial was super relaxing and I loved the products. Each treatment felt velvety smooth and smelled like a wonderful garden.
