Once inside dining returns we want to visit this cozy space
    26in2021 -.

Number 8 of our adventure - King Kabob Restaurant - May 1, 2021 Once again, we had to do a takeout for our latest culinary adventure. We have been concentrating on finding restaurants in the city of Abbotsford so we can limit our traveling, trying to keep safe during Covid. So, this time around it was Georgine's pick and she chose The King Kabob. This is a Persian restaurant that is very near to Georgine's place so we picked the food up and ate it at her place. This food was so fresh and healthy. Nothing is fried and everything was so tasty. We all found the fresh salad with the slightly sweet and wonderful yogurt dressing so refreshing. The meal portions were very generous. We ordered a side of Dolma's these were made with split peas, rice and herbs they were absolutely delicious. They would make a nice light lunch along with a salad. Sadie's choice was the Queen Kabob. This was a skewer of marinated and flame broiled top sirloin and skewer of marinated chicken (Bakhtiari). This came with fluffy basmati rice, salad, pita and humus. She was pleased with her meal. Deb chose the Koobeede Kabob with was two seasoned minced beef skewers along with the rice, salad, humus and pita. She did think that next time she would ask for the extra spicy version, although she enjoyed her meal very much, she wants to try the spicier version. We were given the choice of regular, medium spicy and extra spicy for all of our meals. Georgine chose the lamb shank that was falling off the bone tender and had a delicious perfectly seasoned gravy. This meal came with a salad and a basmati rice that was mixed with lima beans and dill that was so very flavorful. Georgine said she is going to try recreate this rice dish. This was an excellent restaurant and we all loved their food. Next time we go after the Covid restrictions we will know what to expect. So good! We all give the King Kabob a solid 5 out of 5 stars.

How I heard of this place: Our trips to Abbotsford to visit our good, long-time friends always included an additional drive to North Vancouver for Persian kabob and all the yumminess that goes with it. On a recent trip up, we were told a newer place had opened up and the food is good enough to forgo an additional one hour drive. We gave it a shot. Then again. Type of cuisine: "Welcome to KING KABOB restaurant in Abbotsford, the first and primary unique Kabob House in Fraser Valley. We're honor to deliver a variety of Persian and middle-eastern flame-broiled inspired juicy kabobs, cooking traditions and recipes with our unique, creative way to fit the diverse Canadian customer. The food has made from quality fresh ingredients, first quality halal meats and delicately balanced and mixed with herbs, spices, nuts and flavors such as saffron, dried limes, cinnamon, parsley and much more. Our dishes are mostly gluten free, very easy to love, mostly low in fat with no hot spices or fried meats and absolutely good for kids. We use only halal meats hormone and steroid-free in all of our dishes that is healthier and more beneficial for humans vs. regular meats. Halal meat tastes better, is healthier and stays fresh longer due to the absence of blood making it resistant to bacteria. Saffron is also a very costly spice that is very beneficial for human's health, used to flavor and color food. We use saffron in most of our dishes. Our goal is simple, to focus consistently on customer satisfaction and offer them an impeccable premium service by demonstrating warmth, graciousness, and professionalism." Ambiance: A simple, clean space with modern set tiles and hardwood floors, the space welcomes patrons with it's franchise-esque uniforms, and quick-serve, fast-food-like displays of flame-grilled goods. Limited seating at tables with chairs in the small restaurant, seemingly catering mostly to take-away orders, the friendly, warm staff easily make patrons feel welcome and comfortable in the crisp, clean restaurant. What I ordered: The Royal Mix Kabob (CAD$17.95) for me, including one skewer of golden chicken kabob and one of the koobideh, served with a mountain of rice, side hummus and side salad. We also selected a side of Mastomusir (CAD$4.95), and complimentary pita bread with butter. What I loved: The pungent and slightly rose-hinted mastomusir, thick and delicious was a true highlight! My personal favorite of the meat options at the table (spicy chicken, regular chicken, koobideh kabob) was the spicy chicken! Why I loved it: A clean, filling establishment with friendly service, healthy portions and buttery rice. Cost: Average to high ($10.95 - $25.95 per entree)

Spicy chicken kabob, again. No surprise there. Great as always. I ask for no tomato. The spice is right! I wish they'd give you more of the yogurt on the side as well as the onions and pickles! Good portion size for what you're paying. I will eventually try the tandoori chicken, but for now, I can't stop getting the spicy chicken kabob.

This place is expensive and they barely give you any meat for the price. Not worth it.

We were also thinking of going to the Sushi restaurant next door but when we saw this restaurant was packed on a Sunday night, we knew we had to try. Much to our delight the food was very tasty. We ordered the meat platter to share. Every item was seasoned well and tender. Probably one of the best Persian I've had and I've tried quite a few in Lower Mainland. The service was a bit slow at first but it was a busy night and there was a big group there for a Christmas party. Once it cleared up, service was more attentive. Also to our delight, while we were towards the end of our meal, a table of men suddenly got up and started dancing! The owner/managed was so nice, he even turned up the music and encouraged us and the big group to dance. People were dancing and eating. We definitely didn't expect a fun quiet Sunday dinner turned to be a fun time. We'll have to venture out to Coquitlam again to try more dishes and hopefully perhaps there will be another impromptu dancing. lol.

We came on a weekday night so we were seated right away. Took away a star since it took a while to order and get our food, even more the family that came after got their food before us even when they ordered after! Forgiven since they were there for their child's birthday! Food is honestly top notch, it doesn't leave you with that over salted and MSG bloated feeling after most regular Donair spots. Will definitely mark this down as my future go to spot for "quick" and good Persian food! Also super cool to see the chef bbq your food through a see through window!

Instead of eating at the restaurant, we opted for take outs and did it picnic style so that my little rascal can enjoy the food as well. I see the same staff member everytime I go and she's very friendly. I was drawn to their hot food counter, particularly the delicious looking potatoes yelling at my name, again. I'm a huge fan of Middle Eastern style potatoes and Sahel's version is great. They were cooked to perfection and smelled fragrant. I was worried that the kebabs and lamb would be too hard for my daughter but she munched right through! I love the interior as it feels relaxing. You can also tell that the owner spent effort with the interior decoration. The color scheme is appealing as is their usage of live plants. This is my second review of the restaurant and I still give them 5 stars. I've had a pleasant experience every time I visit Sahel~!

I pay for it and they send me to the toppings counter to select what I want in the shawarma. I tell him what toppings I want and then he says ok, " have a seat" .?? I guess he will bring the sandwich to my table? Wrong. I sit at a table and then when it is ready they call me to come and get it. .? They had me sit at a table so that I would not see what they put in the shawarma. You know how they normally cut it off a big hunk of delicious smokey meat on a vertical cooking thing? Not here. The meat is from a metal drawer and once assembled it gets squeezed flat in a grill like a panini. Ugh, never again.

There were large chunks of tender beef, veggies, and sauce. I believe the man said both garlic and tzatziki sauces were in it. Anyhow, the wrap was delicious! Don't know if it makes a difference, but when I was there, there were at least 2 families of middle eastern descent dining there. A little but of street cred maybe? I highly recommend trying out this place!
