I have been going to the Fayetteville location for a while and love it, so was happy to stop into this location and try some old favorites and some new ones (the Greek fries were amazing!) . We opted for the self order kiosk/tablet, but our food was delivered with a smile and in no time. For all the times I've ordered to go at the Fayetteville location, I've never actually sat down to eat at the Fairmount or Fayetteville location. The gyro platter was delicious - though we found the pita to be a bit thinner than we were used to, the hummus was smooth and the gyro meat and falafel were well seasoned. King David's: A Gyro Love Story Gone Terribly, Tragically Wrong Ever since I moved to New York, I've been on a mission--a noble, relentless search for the perfect gyro. You see, I'm from the West Coast, where real gyros are about as rare as a parking spot in Manhattan. Back there, the closest thing I had was a spot called Pita Pit, which, bless its heart, was "fine" for a few years. It held me over. Barely. But my first real gyro experience was in 2002, from a street vendor. I had no idea what I was eating--just some mysterious, delicious wrap filled with juicy meat, sauce, and magic. Ever since then, I've been chasing that flavor like some kind of Mediterranean ghost. Fast-forward to 2025, and I find myself at the New York State Fair. Now, let me say this: if there's anywhere in the state to find the gyro of my dreams, it had to be there. And lo and behold--there it was. A little booth called King David's. Unlike the other stalls, which were all sausage-this and onion-that, King David's looked Greek. Like, it actually gave "I studied abroad in Athens for real" energy. I was about to order a regular gyro, when something caught my eye: Gyro Salad. The words alone sent chills down my spine. I ordered one. Sixteen glorious dollars. And friends... that salad changed my life. The lamb? Charred to perfection, juicy, seasoned by the gods. The pita? Warm and pillowy. The veggies? Crisp, fresh, kissed by a Mediterranean breeze. The tzatziki? Creamy, garlicky, divine. I was transported--back to 2002, back to that first bite, back to everything I've ever loved in a gyro. So naturally... I went back the same day and got another one. That's not obsession--that's good decision-making. I even asked the guy at the booth where they were based. He said Fayetteville. Okay, road trip vibes. But then--plot twist--he also mentioned another location right down the street. Destiny! So I waited patiently for my next craving to hit. I wanted it to be right. And that day was today: September 3, 2025, 1:22 PM. I walked into the restaurant, full of hope and unearned confidence. But immediately... something was off. The sign didn't match the one at the fair. The colors were different. The vibe? Suspicious. But hey, maybe they just went extra for the fair. I wasn't gonna judge based on branding. I'm a mature person. I ordered the same gyro salad I had at the fair, with joy in my heart and $32 ready to go for two bowls of magic. The lady at the counter, however, had no idea what I was talking about when I mentioned the fair. Like... no acknowledgment whatsoever. Okay, maybe she wasn't there that day. Benefit of the doubt. I double-checked the menu--the description looked right. Pita, lamb, veggies, tzatziki. Yes. This was it. Or so I thought. I took the bag home. It felt right. The weight was promising. The anticipation? Palpable. Then I opened it. And friends... I was betrayed. Instead of crisp romaine, I got a heap of sad spring mix. Instead of juicy, circular red onions and chunky tomatoes, I got pickles and pepperoncinis--like someone raided the condiment bar at a Subway. The lamb was not juicy, not charred, but dry, burned to a crisp, and crumbled like regret. The tzatziki? Nowhere to be found. And the "pita" was... I kid you not... a burnt wheat tortilla. A tortilla. What in the sad wrap hell was this? Still, I tried. I wanted to believe. Maybe the flavors would redeem the appearance. They did not. It was gross. Like, actually gross. Not "I'm being dramatic" gross. Not "eh, it's not the same" gross. It was "how dare you" gross. So here I sit, still searching for the real King David's, the one from the fair. Maybe it's the Fayetteville location. Maybe what I had was a mirage, a fever dream conjured by hunger and nostalgia. Or maybe... just maybe... I've been duped. Either way, I won't stop searching. But this location? Absolutely not. If you love yourself--and gyros--don't let this be the end of your own gyro love story. Bottom line up front.... This is a solid option if you're hungry for Mediterranean. 5 Star Exceptional- no. BUT - yes to a very strong and solid 4 Star Good. Portions were LARGE, but it was not a quality compensating large volume, but simply a lot of a good thing. Neither my teenage son or I could finish our lunches. While my son was a little put off by the feta overload as it made his bowl a little salty, he did enjoy it. He was a little disappointed that the fries were part of the bowl instead of on the side. But, it didn't detour him from putting a hurting on the bowl. Mine gyro was tasty, but next time I'll make sure I order it without the fries on the inside. It was not bad nor did it negatively impact the gyro, but I was not expecting it. Perhaps I need to read the menu closer. Even with the fries on the inside of the gyro, it was one of the better gyros I've had in a long time. Yes to a Friends & Family Recommendation. Yes to a repeat visit in my future. Consistent, enjoyable and tasty middle eastern restaurant. This is a relatively new location and conveniently located right on a busy commercial street. The parking is easy and the service is fast and friendly. Standouts include: Hummus, spanikopita, the Greek salad and their baklava. Everyone who has tried it has loved the Greek salad. Wanted to relive a bit of Marshall Street dining from days of yore. Food was great but the menu online is wrong -- no beer or wine.

My friend and I came in this past Wednesday around lunchtime to sit down in the A/C ,and enjoy some great Mediterranean food. Well as most people know it has become unbearable outside from this Heatwave that's hit Syracuse, and, upon coming inside the establishment it felt like a Sauna that was turned up to 100* F. Not Kidding!! Excessive heat exposure is dangerous and can cause a heat stroke (Apparently the A/C is broken or "Someone" didn't pay the cooling Bill ! ;) All kidding aside we watched as the grill cooks slaved away in this heat box and emphatically we ordered the Greek chicken salads (Cold) . Then took our food outside and sat at the umbrella covered table area which lasted all of 2 mins due to the excruciating heat/humidity and we promptly got in our vehicle to enjoy our food in our own air conditioning . There must be some code violation for any restaurant with as many heat sources being used to not have a cooling /ventilation system for its employees as well as patrons who prefer to eat indoors where it's "supposed to be" Cool. The food was alright, but would like it if they had a larger Halal selection.. I asked if the chicken was Halal as advertised an older blond cashier said that only the Gyro Meat is the only Halal food.. Few restaurants on Marshall Street have enjoyed the success that King David's has had over the years. Nader Hatem, the owner of the Mediterranean restaurant, had been serving his family recipes there since 1974, and it was doing better than ever in 2019. King David's was THE place on the Syracuse University Hill to get authentic gyros, shish kabobs, falafels and fresh hummus. It was doing so well that Nader decided to branch out and open a location in the western suburbs. He had already opened a second restaurant in Fayetteville's Town Plaza, but he noticed the food scene in Camillus and Baldwinsville was booming with more variety. After years of searching for an available storefront on West Genesee Street, the Good News Diner closed for good. It's across the street from the strip that's home to Marshall's and Target. Then COVID happened, and the opening was put on hold. This past spring, they picked up where they left off. They gutted the diner and rebuilt, creating a kitchen suited for making plenty of food quickly, and the Fairmount location officially opened a couple weeks ago. I've lived in Syracuse most of my life, but had never been to King Davids. The wife and I love Mediterranean, and seeing as we had some chores to run in the area, decided to give King Davids a try. We called in our order intending to take out, but we were pretty hungry when we got there and decided to just eat in. It's a fast casual type place so plenty of tables inside to choose from and just walk in and sit down. Both my wife and I ordered the same thing, I got a loaded Gyro bowl while she got the falafel bowl, both filled with the same ingredients - rice, fries, lettuce, tomato, onion, feta, falafel, topped with Tzatziki and Harissa(Red) sauce - except mine also had Gyro meat. The bowls were large and plentiful. Their falafel and sauces were the best part of the bowls. Both my wife and I agreed, the food was not bad at all, just a little bland for Mediterranean food in our opinion. Plain white rice instead of seasoned rice as other places use, and I didn't love the flavor of their Gyro meat. The restaurant is very nice inside. Not a huge place, but enough room to have a dozen or so tables. Employees were friendly and prices were fair and comparable to similar restaurants. If we were in the area again and craving Mediterranean in a pinch, we'd go again, but we do feel their are better options in CNY nowadays. read more

I really love this King David's. I usually get the loaded chicken gyro bowl and it's always been fresh. No dry chicken. Plus, it had everything I want in it: chicken, rice, *fries*, feta, salad, tzatziki, harissa, feta, pickles, and falafel! Only thing missing is hummus which I add on the side. I find that many Mediterranean/Greek spots often have platters that make you choose between rice/fries, chicken/falafel, one sauce, etc...so I appreciate their loaded Gyro bowl. Myself and my guests also tried falafel, sweet potato fries, Spanikopita, gyro, and lamb skewers. I'm told the lamb was very tender despite not being very pink. All the apps/sides were so good! The owner is incredibly nice and the space is bright, clean, and efficient. Definitely recommend this place. This was my first time eating here and I really enjoyed it! The food was super tasty and the staff were all pretty great. It's not really a sit down restaurant in the regular sense. You go to the counter and order your food. Once you've done that, you take a seat and display your number card. They will bring your food out when it's all done. One piece of advice I can offer is to not over order! They give you a ton of food. All of it is very delicious and you won't leave hungry. The only couple of issues I have with their set up is 1- I don't like the tip spot on the receipt. It's kind of awkward trying to figure out if this is a standard restaurant tip or not on your first time. The other issue is their soda cups are beyond tiny. I had 3 refills the time I was there. I'm the the type that likes to bring home something to drink, and less than 12oz is not enough for me. Other than that, a great place! read more

Opening Day Review! I have been excited for King David's to open in Fairmount for months now since the departure of Baghdad. I ordered using their online website which was easy. I have always loved eating at King David's, but I admit it's been quite a while since I have been there. We went for dinner last night - I guess it has been a while... there were plenty of options, but I wanted a dinner. After a bit, instead of looking at the board on the wall with numerous choices, I saw a menu near the register. I selected what I expected to be a platter with beef, hummus, salad and falafels. Instead of a platter, it came in a bowl, with only one falafel, and no pita to dip in the hummus. It was very good but I was disappointed. As I recall, the platter used to come with more than one falafel (which I love) and pita for dipping in the hummus. My partner ordered chicken with rice. The chicken was flavorful, but flaky like "tuna", so the texture was not good. I've seen so many positive comments about King David's, and as I said, it's been a long time since I've eaten there. Driving home from work on a late Friday afternoon, exhausted and needing something to pick up and take home. I decided from a past experience of the same nature to do something that worked perfectly. King David's West Genesee location in Camillus as eat in or take out options. You can order online or at the restaurant . If you order online they have a "no touch" shelf where your food will be bagged and waiting for you. Since I was driving I went into the restaurant. I ordered two Chicken Shawarma House Speciality. It is served with Hummus, Greek Salad, Falafel patty and pita. We also ordered two more orders of Falafel and pitas along with a huge container of tzatziki sauce. The ordering was fast and easy but also would like to highlight the service. I enjoyed listening to the staff engage with a customers. They were super helpful and accommodating. One of the staff gave a sample to the lady in front of me when she was unsure of what to order. Behind me one of the cooks took the time to discuss with a first time customer what ideas they may like from the menu. The Chicken Shawarma I ordered was still warm when I got home. Tasted fresh and light. A good serving amount of chicken compliments on a bed of rice. The falafel was just AWESOME while their in-house hummus and tzatziki was a perfect compliment to both the falafels and home created gyros I made with the extra uncut pitas I ordered! This was our first time at this location and there are plenty of positives - easy parking, clean restaurant, friendly staff. However, the food itself was just meh. The falfels for example were just dry. Souvlaki was underseasoned. Fries were a little cold. The sauces were wattery and not very flavorful. We had a few options to try and nothing was above average. The restaurant is small but really nicely presented and clean. It's more built for take out than dining in as there are a handful of tables and booths. The specials board is really beautiful as you walk in. Staff were very friendly and warmly greeted me. My food was ready to go so I was in and out. The desserts at the counter looked amazing but I didn't indulge this time. The combo beef shawarma over hummus was delicious and still warm by the time I returned home. The wife and I stopped into eat at this new restaurant in Camillus. It is a must place to stop if you enjoy Mediterranean cuisine. We started with hummus that was very flavorful. Our entrees were gyro platter and the chicken farrow bowl. The gyro platter comes with a tossed salad, a falafel patty and I chose fries (which were fantastic). The meat was well seasoned and plentiful on the gyro and it was dressed with ample tzatziki sauce. The Farro bowl was amazing, fresh ingredients and it has some really good spice heat to it. You are welcome to dine in, however no waitstaff, they will bring you your food when it's ready. When we were there, we saw an awful lot of takeout happening....Also, they do not offer any alcoholic beverages. This is a great new addition to the Camillus dining scene...go out and support this locally owned restaurant, it's well worth the trip. read more
