The food here was absolutely delicious and so flavorful! They have many options but I went with the falafel bowl and chose the baba ganoush. The falafel was crispy and cooked well, and the baba ganoush was creamy. The sauces tied everything together and the veggies were all very fresh! Service was decently quick, since it's in the food hall they give you a buzzer so you can come back when it's ready. It was a nice little stand and the seating area for the food hall is decently spacious.
I was driving upstate for a conference and stopped at the Salt City Market for lunch. There's a solid amount of delicious options but Baghdad Restaurant called out to me. Gentleman was professional and the food was served pretty quickly. I went with the mixed lamb and beef shawarma served with rice. It also included a small side salad. Meat was very flavorful and came with a nice sauce. Rice was fluffy and great with the meat. Portion was quite good!
The food was very good and the woman at the counter was very friendly. Everything was very fresh and tasty..the chicken shawarma was shaved right off the vertical broiler and seasoned nicely. It came with a choice of barley or rice, which was nice and a small portion of either hummus or baba ganoush. It was very busy at the Market for Friday lunch. The outdoor seating is wonderful and I'll miss that when it gets too cold to sit outside.
I've walked by this restaurant many times without stopping but this time I decided to stop for lunch. I never had Iraqi food before and wasn't sure what to expect. I was impressed. The staff helped me navigate a rather extensive menu. I finally settled on an Iraqi taco consisting of lamb and baba ghanoush. They included a complimentary bowl of lentil soup. It was a different and delightful experience. I will definitely be back to explore more of the menu.
I got the beef shawarma with rice (came with half the plate lettuce underneath) Nice presentation, I'm unsure of the sauces on top, wish they were optional but over all very moist and a good meal. Little pricey, $17 for one plate
I had the Arabic Chicken SAJ. It was good. Glad I tried it. I love pickles so the pickle taste didn't bother me, although it's so pickled that it got to be too much towards the end. I couldn't finish it. The garlic sauce is very strong too. This definitely has lots of flavor. Like exploding with it. I wouldn't personally order this again, but it was good and I'd be down for eating here again. The line was long, busy, and constant.... But does move fast. Fries didn't have much flavor at all.

Also tried their gyro which is quite tasty and the chicken shwarma salad which was nice and filling. The service could be a little more friendly but they are attentive and efficient. I love their sign it has a really nice look to it. I once got to try their knafeh and it was something I never had but really enjoyed.
Go here. It's located in a co op eatery. The food is amazing. Whenever we have to go into Syracuse it's our favorite stop. Seating is open style. The coffee shop/bar in there is pretty great too! 10/10 service never have I been disappointed.
A very tasty kofta with a large salad and rice accompaniment. Service is friendly. Complimentary lentil soup is excellent too. Reasonable prices.
Located inside Salt City Market, these were some lovely platters of goodness. I was in the area recently and we had just arrived from a cancelled flight, airport switch, and general insanities. Luckily this was near our hotel and we were looking for some tasty and hearty eats! We ordered the mixed shawarma (beef and chicken) and the special of the day which was Cream Chicken (similar to a chicken katsu/schnitzel-fried). Both platters came with rice, pickled veggies, and sauces. I think for next time I will ask for sauce on the side because there was A LOT of sauce. Everything was seasoned pretty well and was hot and fresh. Portions were awesome since we were HUNGRY...ok borderline HANGRY. They have a nice variety of drinks/sodas in glass bottles. I tried the mandarin orange flavor and the berry one---I would pass on the berry one next time because it was very reminiscent of prune juice. Would definitely eat here again.
In 2014, owner Firas and his family relocated to Syracuse as refugees when war came to their home of Baghdad, Iraq. Firas went on to cook at several Middle Eastern restaurants in the city such as Byblos and Red Olive before opening Baghdad in Fairmount, and then relocating to Salt City Market when they opened in 2020. The wife and I love Middle Eastern/Mediterranean food. It is literally some of my favorite food to eat and we've eaten at almost every Mediterranean spot in CNY, so naturally we had to try Baghdad as well when we got the chance. I tried a shwarma plate while the wife got a falafel plate. Everything was great. My only SMALL complaints is that I wish their rice was seasoned and I also would've liked more sauce on my shwarma. The Mediterranean sauces are always the BEST parts of the meal for me and I would've like a little more on my dish. We'll definitely return in the future.
Slowly but surely, I'm tasting my way around the Salt City Market. A few months back, on a whim, Baghdad was my latest culinary excursion. Syracuse is home to many excellent Mediterranean and Middle Eastern restaurants (way more than you might expect for CNY), but it seems like Baghdad can hold its own. I stopped in around lunchtime and ordered the falafel sandwich. Service was a schosch on the slow side, but I think this was just my timing. Most of the staff was trying to take a lunch break, so there was a tiny wait, but by no means was it excessive. The portion size really impressed me. For $5, you get a really generous long sub (think baguette-length.) The bread wasn't homemade and seemed more American than Middle Eastern. I suspect this is because the restaurant is still pretty new-- maybe when they have their footing a bit more they'll make their own bread, or more likely, upgrade to a local bread-- goodness knows the city has several. The falafel was a good consistency and wasn't dry. The toppings were basic but tasty. My meal was very filling for not a lot of money. I'd stop in again, and would recommend it to friends.

Part of Salt City Market, this restaurant serves fantastic, authentic middle eastern fare. I had a chicken shawarma wrap (they do real shawarma on the spit). The meat was juicy and tender and the wrap grilled well. Meat was seasoned and had some pickled veg inside. The fries were hot and crisp. They have traditional plates of beef, chicken, and lamb. They also have falafel, hummus, salads, kebabs, authentic middle eastern drinks, and more. Reasonably priced. Fast and friendly service, fresh and tasty food. Salt city market is a bright, airy open space with tons of seating and many vendors, so if you or someone in your party isn't feeling this vibe, you can all find something to make you happy. read more

My husband and I shared the Gyro Lamb Iraqi Saj with Fries as one of our choices while we were at the food hall. We loved the gyro. It was a bit of a different style than ones you may have had from other countries, but it was delicious nonetheless. I wouldn't get the fries again - they weren't cooked all the way. read more
Yum ! Ok I cannot leave that short a review and expect you to feel the experience. Love the vibe at Salt City, the comfy rocking soft seats by the window, the curvy metal chairs that are way more comfy than they look, the fun upward seating with pillows, the market that has way better drinks than your average soda and healthy ones too, the many options for food which I find so difficult to choose from as I am finding each to be as good as it smells and looks. So today we chose Baghdad both getting the beef shawarma with rice and salad. For a slight upcharge I went with tabouleh for my salad as it is a favorite of mine and it was the best I have had with the mint popping through the tart lemon dressing over just the right amount of tomato and bulgar. The shawarma was many thin slices of seasoned beef over the tender bed of rice drizzled with sauce. A side of tzatziki added because it's so good of course. We picked up drinks at the market topping off our mid afternoon Linner with leftovers to go and no room for dessert this time. The staff were warm and friendly. We will definitely be back to try other dishes and other spots. read more

We were so impressed with Salt City Market that we came back as we were passing through Syracuse again. There are so many wonderful options it's hard to choose what to order. We wanted to circle back to try Baghdad. The week before we were drooling over the chicken, beef and lamb shawarmas that were cooking. We arrived late on a Saturday afternoon in time for an early dinner and were sad to hear that all the varieties were already sold out. Definitely a bit disappointing but understandable since they looked and smelled amazing. We ordered the beef kebabs which came with a plate of rice and some pickled veggies and a yogurt sauce. The food was cooked quickly and was very fresh. The meat was tender and utilized a wonderful assortment of spices. The veggies and yogurt sauce were nice complements and played off the seasoning. This was a very generous potion and fed 2 hungry people. The prices were very reasonable. I would absolutely recommend you stop by. read more

Yum! Seriously every bite was delicious. Tried out Baghdad this past Friday and the food was delicious. I went with the gyro meat platter with salad and rice and a side of garlic sauce. The platter also came with tzatiki sauce too. First off the sauces were nice and flavorful and fresh. The gyro meat was nice, tender and flavorful. So good! Rice was also nicely seasoned, and the salad was a perfect accompaniment. Can't wait to go back and try more food from here. They are hitting it out of the park! read more
Finally got a chance to check out the Salt City Market and started my first eating endeavor at the Baghdad restaurant. Outside of needing to figure out how to expeditiously move customers in and out, the wait was long but the food was good. For a mid day lunch the choices included 3 appetizers: Bulgar Kibbeh, Vegetable egg roll, and the eggplant salad. Hot out of the oven the Bulgar Kibbeh had a nice crispy outside with warm beef inside. There was a hint of nutmeg which offered a nice flavorful combination. Next up the Vegetable egg roll. These too had a good crispy outside with a combination of vegetables inside. My gripe on these would be they were on the smaller side and the amount of "filling" was scant. They too were good. Lastly, and notably the pièce de rèsistance of the 3 was the eggplant salad. Definitely unique and not what I was expecting. A combination of eggplant, onion and some sort of sauce made the appetizer a unique and different experience. Definitely give it a try if you are an fan of eggplant. By the way, the salad is served cold. read more

This is mostly a market that serves a limited food menu. Shawarma and Falafel sandwiches, among a few other items that are incredibly delicious! Bakery items are also a must to try - ask about the fresh bread and definitely try the baklava - best I've ever had! Or just sit and have a cup of Turkish coffee and a small pastry. The owners are the absolute nicest and most welcoming people you'll Have the pleasure of meeting. Very casual, welcoming atmosphere. read more
This has to be some of the best Shawarma I've had in my life. And who knew that it would be in the Salt City Market in Syracuse, New York? For only $8.99, I got a beef shawarma salad. Along with the typical veggies you'd expect in a mediterranean salad (lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, olives) they put some delicious sweet/tangy sauce on the beef that made it stand out so well. Plop some tahini on the sucker and you've got yourself one delicious Iraqi takeout. The owner is an Iraqi refugee, whose family resettled in Syracuse in 2014 and has a few other restaurants in town. You know that this food is legit, fresh, and delicious. read more
I wasn't sure what to order but asked someone who had ordered what they had that looked good and it was chicken shawarma. I tried it and I liked the spices on the chicken and the rice was nice and fluffy. The portion was huge! I will be back to try other things. read more

Great place to eat inside of the urban style food court. So good we ate there twice in one weekend! All of our dishes were tasty and fresh. The meats are slow roasting on rotisseries behind the counter. Prices were very reasonable. Will be back when in town again! read more
On my second trip back to Salt City Market I had to try their offerings. Perhaps my favorite food group is Mediterranean food because of the yummy vegan options. I ordered the falafel plate and after a fairly long wait I was presented a plate full of food. My falafel was very hot and crispy and served on a white roll with an extra roll on the side. A lot of bread for what I would normally think of as a fairly healthy meal. There wasn't enough hummus and it was served with a small side of shredded lettuce, shaved red onion, cucumbers and tomatoes. Those portions could have been much larger and the bread serving much smaller. The hummus was good. I think on my next visit to the market I will try their hummus appetizer and get another food option from other vendors. read more

This is a great spot for delicious Mediterranean food. I grew up eating these dishes because of my background so I know good Arab food when I taste it. And they do not slack here. I had the rice and chicken platter, it was delicious. Absolutely astonished at how much my plate was packed, I even took some home with me cuz I couldn't finish it! The rice was so flavorful, as was the chicken. And when I mixed the plate up, it was even better. My brother had the rice and meat platter and loved it. 10/10 recommend coming here, you will not be disappointed read more
