The food was very good and the woman at the counter was very friendly. Everything was very fresh and tasty..the chicken shawarma was shaved right off the vertical broiler and seasoned nicely. It came with a choice of barley or rice, which was nice and a small portion of either hummus or baba ganoush. It was very busy at the Market for Friday lunch. The outdoor seating is wonderful and I'll miss that when it gets too cold to sit outside.

I've walked by this restaurant many times without stopping but this time I decided to stop for lunch. I never had Iraqi food before and wasn't sure what to expect. I was impressed. The staff helped me navigate a rather extensive menu. I finally settled on an Iraqi taco consisting of lamb and baba ghanoush. They included a complimentary bowl of lentil soup. It was a different and delightful experience. I will definitely be back to explore more of the menu.

I got the beef shawarma with rice (came with half the plate lettuce underneath) Nice presentation, I'm unsure of the sauces on top, wish they were optional but over all very moist and a good meal. Little pricey, $17 for one plate

I had the Arabic Chicken SAJ. It was good. Glad I tried it. I love pickles so the pickle taste didn't bother me, although it's so pickled that it got to be too much towards the end. I couldn't finish it. The garlic sauce is very strong too. This definitely has lots of flavor. Like exploding with it. I wouldn't personally order this again, but it was good and I'd be down for eating here again. The line was long, busy, and constant.... But does move fast. Fries didn't have much flavor at all.

In the are for work. Went to Salt City Market for lunch. Good selection of food and all seemed good. Tried the Iraqi chicken Saj sandwich with fries and a side of garlic sauce. Overall very happy as it was fresh, tasty and exactly what I ordered. Would like to go back and try a few other dishes.

This vendor is a great staple at the Salt City Market. I love their falafel and I get a side of tzatziki to dip it in. They have great sauces. Also tried their gyro which is quite tasty and the chicken shwarma salad which was nice and filling. The service could be a little more friendly but they are attentive and efficient. I love their sign it has a really nice look to it. I once got to try their knafeh and it was something I never had but really enjoyed.

Go here. It's located in a co op eatery. The food is amazing. Whenever we have to go into Syracuse it's our favorite stop. Seating is open style. The coffee shop/bar in there is pretty great too! 10/10 service never have I been disappointed.

A very tasty kofta with a large salad and rice accompaniment. Service is friendly. Complimentary lentil soup is excellent too. Reasonable prices.

Located inside Salt City Market, these were some lovely platters of goodness. I was in the area recently and we had just arrived from a cancelled flight, airport switch, and general insanities. Luckily this was near our hotel and we were looking for some tasty and hearty eats! We ordered the mixed shawarma (beef and chicken) and the special of the day which was Cream Chicken (similar to a chicken katsu/schnitzel-fried). Both platters came with rice, pickled veggies, and sauces. I think for next time I will ask for sauce on the side because there was A LOT of sauce. Everything was seasoned pretty well and was hot and fresh. Portions were awesome since we were HUNGRY...ok borderline HANGRY. They have a nice variety of drinks/sodas in glass bottles. I tried the mandarin orange flavor and the berry one---I would pass on the berry one next time because it was very reminiscent of prune juice. Would definitely eat here again.

In 2014, owner Firas and his family relocated to Syracuse as refugees when war came to their home of Baghdad, Iraq. Firas went on to cook at several Middle Eastern restaurants in the city such as Byblos and Red Olive before opening Baghdad in Fairmount, and then relocating to Salt City Market when they opened in 2020. The wife and I love Middle Eastern/Mediterranean food. It is literally some of my favorite food to eat and we've eaten at almost every Mediterranean spot in CNY, so naturally we had to try Baghdad as well when we got the chance. I tried a shwarma plate while the wife got a falafel plate. Everything was great. My only SMALL complaints is that I wish their rice was seasoned and I also would've liked more sauce on my shwarma. The Mediterranean sauces are always the BEST parts of the meal for me and I would've like a little more on my dish. We'll definitely return in the future.

Slowly but surely, I'm tasting my way around the Salt City Market. A few months back, on a whim, Baghdad was my latest culinary excursion. Syracuse is home to many excellent Mediterranean and Middle Eastern restaurants (way more than you might expect for CNY), but it seems like Baghdad can hold its own. I stopped in around lunchtime and ordered the falafel sandwich. Service was a schosch on the slow side, but I think this was just my timing. Most of the staff was trying to take a lunch break, so there was a tiny wait, but by no means was it excessive. The portion size really impressed me. For $5, you get a really generous long sub (think baguette-length.) The bread wasn't homemade and seemed more American than Middle Eastern. I suspect this is because the restaurant is still pretty new-- maybe when they have their footing a bit more they'll make their own bread, or more likely, upgrade to a local bread-- goodness knows the city has several. The falafel was a good consistency and wasn't dry. The toppings were basic but tasty. My meal was very filling for not a lot of money. I'd stop in again, and would recommend it to friends.

My husband and I shared the Gyro Lamb Iraqi Saj with Fries as one of our choices while we were at the food hall. We loved the gyro. It was a bit of a different style than ones you may have had from other countries, but it was delicious nonetheless. I wouldn't get the fries again - they weren't cooked all the way.

I ordered takeout from here one night and found myself asking "how have I not ordered from here…read morebefore?" The restaurant is on Westcott Street and has been open literally longer than I've been alive. It very much has the vibe of a local spot that probably has regulars. Parking can be tight on Westcott itself but there is a small lot that they share with Mom's diner. Inside there's a bar and a second dining room with a stage where I think they do trivia. Lots of nice decor. It feels very homey. I heard they had a hummus shake and was intrigued to try it. They have a bunch of syrups they can mix in to flavor it. It was interesting. Very very syrupy sweet, and the taste is unusual at first but kinda grew on me. The real star was the savory food though. I went for a shrimp gyro. As a pescatarian, I was psyched to see this on the menu because most places around here only have falafel or meat, so it was nice to have another option. The shrimp were SO PLUMP and well seasoned. Very big size and quite full inside the pita. Felt that I was getting my money's worth. The vegetables were very fresh, pita soft, and sauce perfectly tangy. To be honest I'm still dreaming of this. I'd try more of their options. Also worth noting, when I called in my takeout order the hostess (/server?) was so incredibly courteous and friendly in a way that feels fairly rare anymore.

This included the chicken, rice, a salad, toasted pita bread, pickled onions, and a zesty cheese dipping sauce I couldn't quite place but I lived. Had to take the rest to go. My gf got the hummus dinner with veggies and pita and some falafel. I tried some just so flavorful. Dinner, tax, tip, $32 seems good in this economy.

The restaurant also serves chicken wings and tenders, seasonal soups, tabbouleh, falafel, hummus, and jalapeño poppers, and a couple of its walls are lined with pre-packaged candy. There's also a selection of cakes and smoothies, with flavors of the latter including strawberry, mango pineapple and banana. Kaib Saleh, who goes by the nickname Adam and runs the restaurant with his brother Shihab and their Jordanian business partner Alaa, says he opened Ali Baba because he likes to share all the different Arabic and Middle Eastern food there is to offer, plus the sweet stuff too. The establishment had converted what was briefly intended to be a smoke shop into the sweets section to give off more of a family-friendly and kid-appropriate atmosphere. Starting out, the business was meant to be a convenience store with a carry-out deli, but when the owners noticed that people were sitting down to eat at the chairs and tables used for the grand opening, the trio decided to take out the shelves and pay the extra licensing fee to properly turn their place into a sit-down restaurant with takeout and delivery options. I work in East Syracuse and have driven by Ali Baba every day since it's been opened and thought "I gotta get lunch there one day." I love Mediterranean food, so I decided it was time. I was able to easily order online on their website, and went with the simple chicken over rice combo to try them out. There's a small parking lot to park in, and this isn't an extremely busy section of the city, so there's always open parking spots. Went in and my food was not ready yet. The girl at the counter didn't tell me my food wasn't ready, just took my name and walked over to ask and then stood waiting for it, but she seemed pretty shy so no big deal. It's very nice inside, not at all what I was expecting, with several tables to sit and eat, and a couple tables outside to eat at as well. My food was ready about 5-10 minutes after I arrived. I decided to just eat thee at one of the outside tables, as it was a bright sunny day outside. Everything was tasty, although I could've used a little more of the white garlic sauce personally, and it was enough food to feed me twice. Prices were comparable to similar other restaurants in the area. What I love about the place is that it's open 24/7. I honestly am almost never out late at night, or even near the area other than for work, but I like knowing that if I ever were, there is a place I could go to to get fresh cooked, delicious food at any time, in an age where there are very few late night food establishments open anymore. I definitely plan to go back and try other stuff.

Our server was the son who's one of the owners and it's obvious how much he cares about the restaurant and his guests. We really felt taken care of in a way that tands out compared to a lot of restaurants. The dining room was busy but he always took the time to check on us, joke with us, and make us feel absolutely welcome. We both got mocktails. Mine was so flavorful and refreshing, just the right mix of tart and sweet. For our first course we got the spicy feta hummus which is homemade and served with homemade pita. The bread was warmed and very light. The hummus was rich. I loved the kick of the spices and the creaminess of the feta, the exact right amount of heat. For my main I got the fried cauliflower wrap with lentil soup. The soup was warming, well spiced, and perfectly comforting. The wrap was unreal in its flavor. Well seasoned cauliflower fried the exact perfect amount, fresh lettuce and tomato, a creamy sauce. Divine. I was stuffed halfway through but soldiered on because it was so delicious I couldn't put it down. Very reasonably priced as well. Didn't have a bad bite or sip here and I suspect that if I ordered everything on the menu, I'd love it all. This is an outstanding mediterranean restaurant in a city that has no shortage of them. Absolutely worth the drive out to Manlius. Go watch the swans, walk around town, and have a wonderful meal here, you won't regret it.

We were excited to finally give it a try, and the food absolutely lived up to the hype. This was easily the best Middle Eastern food we've had in Central New York. We started with the hummus appetizer, which was fresh, flavorful, and paired perfectly with the delicious house-made and warm pita. I ordered the beef and lamb gyro, and my wife had the beef kebabs. Both meals were outstanding, and we'll definitely be back for the food. Unfortunately, what keeps me from leaving a five-star review was the service we received from our server, Megan. I'm not sure whether it was because we arrived about an hour before closing or if she was simply having an off night, but from the beginning, the service felt rushed and inattentive, and it never improved. Just a couple of minutes after we were seated, she asked if we were ready to order. When we said we were still looking over the menu, she simply replied, "Okay," and walked away without asking if we had any questions or explaining the menu. My wife had to stop her as she was walking away to ask what drinks were available. A few minutes later, when she returned to take our order, she took our appetizer order and my wife's entrée order while looking around the dining room, said "thank you," and immediately started walking away without taking my order. I had to stop her so I could order my meal. During our meal, while I had my gyro in hand and was about to take another bite, I noticed her standing beside our table preparing the payment terminal. My wife looked at her, the server said "sorry" and then set down the payment terminal on the neighboring table instead. Once we were finished, she handed us the payment terminal and then asked whether we'd like dessert or coffee, after already presenting the check, which felt a bit odd. After I paid, I was in the middle of selecting how I wanted my receipt when she took the payment terminal away before I could finish, leaving me unable to receive an itemized receipt for our meal. The food was exceptional, and we'll absolutely be back because the kitchen deserves every bit of the praise it receives. That said, we'll be requesting a different server next time. The service we experienced tonight was disappointing and didn't match the quality of the food. On a positive note, there was another server working this evening who was incredibly friendly and welcoming. I didn't catch her name, but she left a much better impression and reflected the kind of hospitality we were hoping to experience.

The place was pretty small and unassuming from the outward appearance. Upon coming in, there are limited seats, but everything was neat and clean. I could smell some enticing aromas from the kitchen. Not sure if they are short staffed, but it took a while for someone to come to the counter to take our order. I really was looking forward to having the lamb gyro, so that was what I ordered, as well as ordering a baklava for dessert. The food took a while to come out, but I'm fine waiting for something great to eat. They did have a number of takeout orders that were served while we waited, maybe 3 of them. Once the food came out, the lamb was pretty nice, and there was a reasonable portion of meat in the gyro, as well as some tomato, lettuce, and onion on a nice pita bread. But the tzatziki was very disappointing, it was very thin, and didn't have much flavor. That sort of killed the whole gyro. The baklava was very tasty, and had nice pistachio crumbles on it, but the honey was a bit too much, giving it a very soggy bottom. Flavor was good though, and I don't mind a little messy dessert. All in all, I was a little disappointed with the meal. I tend to be a little generous in my reviews, so I gave it three stars, as I felt I couldn't rate it as a 2, but I couldn't quite give a four star rating. I'd give it another try, but maybe not go for a gyro.
