For a buffet it does have a large variety of foods to choose from but as for the taste...worst Chinese food I've ever eaten. Very bland, lots of fat left on the chicken and pork and the "fried" rice is just white rice with a sprinkling of vegetables. No seasoning in the egg roll filling. Cooks and staff are hispanic so that might be a big clue that the food just doesn't taste like Chinese food should. Will not be eating there again. read more

The food was decent. The buffet was well stocked. Waitress was very attentive to our drinks and taking away empty plates. However it is by now means the was the cleanest place to eat. This is-hands down-thee worst Chinese buffet I have ever been to in my entire life! When you sit at your table you get to watch your neighbors across from you and next to you eat. I mean, you're in their face & they're literally in yours. The lady seated at the table next to me kept 'eyeballing me' as my husband puts it, making me feel very uncomfortable. So, after I got my food I sat at a different seat at my table so I didn't have to look st her. The food was just so-so, not too much variety. Food came off the steam table COLD. Super super dangerous when it comes to food not being stored at the proper temperature. My first glass as well as the first TWO plates I picked up were all dirty. The lemons in my water had speckles of mold on them. (Looked like they had been stored with other lemons that had been molded and then wasn't washed before serving). The only thing that was reliably hot (that I tried) was the sweet and sour chicken. If my circumstances had been different I would have walked out. Highly recommend this restaurant. Workers are friendly, food is always kept fresh, and restocked. Plenty of seating. Labeling on food products is off, which is a big food safety issue. Please do not eat here. I have serious health concerns with this restaurant. When walking back to the buffet you can smell raw sewage coming from the kitchen. I have lived in the Somerset area for the past 11 years, about 1 hr. away. During that time, King Buffet has had good ratings at times and at others, not so good. The word was out that there is new management at this location. If that is true, then you might as well forget about spending your hard earned money here. # 1, A large sign just inside the door advertises the lunch buffet at $6.99, forget that , the correct price is 10.99, as of today, April 6, 2023. #2, the food at best was luke warm, and some items that were supposed to be hot, were cold in the center, the shrimp, while being large were undercooked and cold to the touch. The chicken with broccoli was hot but was undercooked. The terriyaki chicken was flavorless and undercooked. The pork fried rice was so salty it was inedible. The honey chicken was so hard you could not chew it. I was hungry and had been looking forward to visiting the place for several weeks, so I kept going back to the buffet to find something that was good, but it was a lost cause. #3, I do not normally complain, and most certainly do not do so in a loud voice, but as I spoke to the cashier and told him of my problems, he proceeded to become more rude and condescending. He did apologize, but you could tell he did not care, one way or the other. I informed him that I would be giving a bad review to Yelp, and he basically told me to go to hell, he did not care. Sunday afternoon at 1:40 my husband and our son went to King buffet for my birthday meal. Once a year the birthday boy/girl in our family gets to have their pick of anywhere for their birthday meal. Very busy, but allowances must be given on a Sunday after Church lets out in the South. I had read the reviews before entering and understood buyer beware but this girl wanted some chinese! While my husband was getting our seat I veered off to check out the buffet as i was still leary of the food in the reviews. The food looked frankly mouthwatering and my heart skipped a beat -yet that was promptly erased when i entered their "party room" where we had been seated. A more accurate depiction would be naming it the "puke room"....years and years of stench was wafting up from the carpet. Foul spoiled milk/rancid vomit stench hitting like a Mack Truck as you enter the room. I was in disbelief that the other tables could even be sitting in there let alone eat. Whether i had myself a princess moment - that may have been the case but couldn't stay so we left and asked to be seated in the main eating area. I should have known better. We were sat at a booth to the right near the entrance. Went to get our food. Chow mein which was mediocre and looked better than it tasted. It seemed to have a greasy texture that lingered. I then tried the honey Chicken which i actually did enjoy. Greenbeans were bright and a yummy crunch to them. There was even a grill that would it appeared to be for grilling proteins and maybe even mongolian bbq. All in all the food seemed ok but rather boring. It was when the two cockroaches above the coca cola soda fountain did a dance accross the clock hanging above that i lost it. With no subtlety my husband announces their presences. Even to the waitress who was serving our drinks. She ignored him! Just gave a small awkward smile and appeared to all of a sudden act like she spoke no english. I start laighing laike a mad woman. Pointed out to the people sitting beside us there were cockroaches on the clock. They turned and saw them too but tucked right back into their food. Time to go. Couldnt take it anymore. I dont think people realize that if there are cockroaches there is a nest and a huge sanitation issue. We even paid our bill since we did infact consume food. As we walked out the door and were almost to our vehicle a young man flew out the door and promptly vomitted all over the sidewalk and the bumper of a car. So taken aback again i was laughing my butt off. But the true gift was that of the detox i didnt intend to do that ensued when we arrived home. Not sure what it was in the form of bacteria that cleaned out my insides for a good solid 4 hours but it was bad. Lesson learned to appreciate good Chinese in California and to never return to the King Vomit Bug infested buffet. Ive been to many chinese buffets all over the US and this was by far the worst. As soon as i walked in i noticed a cock roach on the floor and stomped on it. This is a great place to get buffet, take out, luncheon specials, or to order regular dinners at a very reasonable price. The buffet has a wide variety and it is almost always well stocked. I've never tried the Mongolian bar, but it's tempting too. The sushi is good, but I've seen a few that looks to have raw fish in it now, and we stay away from anything raw. The employees are always friendly and helpful. They go above and beyond for their customers. read more
