This is my second time ordering from this establishment. The first time everything was on point, but I don't know what happened today. My first time it was during the week, I got just two sides mac & cheese, and collard greens to go and it was on point. So I didn't feel like any meat just wanted vegetables and it came in my spirit to come here. So I got their veggie plate with the options of candy, yams, lima beans, collard greens, the mac & cheese and it came with cornbread. First glance, everything looked OK except the cornbread on the cornbread was too light and from the color you could tell it wasn't cooked all the way. So when I bid into it, you can still taste the toughness of it. The mac & cheese wasn't as good as I remember the first time, I don't care for the stems in my collard greens, so there are more stems than the actual greens itself but overall they were good. Not everybody could take yams from the can and make them into real good candy yams so that slacked and then they did me wrong on the lima beans. The lima beans look so good, but when I opened the top off of it and stirred it and put a spoonful into my mouth, you tasted half warm and the other side cold, which suggest they have these pre-prepared and either sitting or in the fridge and they try to heat it up in the microwave. The service was pretty good very nice hospitable and quick. But y'all need to do better if you're gonna do real soul food do it the right way not the canned stuff and make sure the cornbread get some color in addition to making sure it's done. read more

I have never left a negative review because I am aware of how they can really hurt a business. However, the food I ordered today from Kinfolks was horrible. I found 3 hairs in the food before I stopped eating.I had the smothered pork chops that was covered in a disgusting congealed gravy. I had to really look to find a bone, gristle with a tiny amount(one bite) of ultra thin pork attached. The two side veggies were a scant 1/4 cup, and the cake( which was actually good) was laughably small. Wow real soul food! The food was amazing, I had the oxtails over yellow rice with the mac & cheese and the green beans. My girl friend had the beef stew over yellow rice, Mac and cheese and yams. My son had 20 wings and fries. Also tried red velvet cake, banana pudding and peach cobbler. Everything was delicious and the portion sizes were right for the price. Although if you're going, it's more of a grab they do have two tables inside, but most of the tables are outside. If your in Daytona, and you want some of the best soul food of your life definitely do not miss kinfolks. Worst soul food ever! Save your money and cook yourself. I ordered oxtails and sat down inside to enjoy them. After taking a bite, was disgusted with the room temperature taste of meat in my mouth! My expression must have been horrible because an employee sitting in the dining room asked what was wrong and I replied this is cold and tasteless. They went to the back and came back out with some oxtails that were hot and tasty. Good thing I didn't get it to go! It's disappointing that you can't get consistent tasty hot soul food consistently ANYWHERE in Daytona except your OWN kitchen. You have to go to Jacksonville. I wish I could give zero stars! I still have the entire plate of food. I went last night around 8 or 9pm and I wish they would've just told me they were closed... The fried chicken looked as if it was fried more than once. The Mac and cheese had NO FLAVOR. The gravy had a gelatinous consistency like when it gets cold and was just dropped on top of rice. All also had no flavor. I am disappointed that I am out of my money and didn't get to eat any of the food. Bethune Grill is the ONLY reason I didn't go hungry last night since I they have my kids enough food that I could eat too. Don't waste your time or your money. I'm very disappointed. read more

Ordered the Mac N Cheese, baked chicken, fish sandwich, and candied yams. We wanted greens, but they weren't ready yet and opted for black eye peas instead. The chicken was really delicious. The fish was hot and fresh and served with mustard and tartar sauce. Everything was prepared to go and plastic-ware was included. There is limited parking on the side of the business. This was my second time visiting the establishment! The first time the food was pretty but the food this weekend was sub par. You could tell the grease was old and the food just didn't taste well. However they are very friendly people who are working to build a brand. KINFOLKS Soul Food restaurant ... we arrived around 5pm the spot is right on the corner, free parking on a gravel lot, and the food was sooo fresh that I even saw them take the chicken wings out of the refrigerator and cook them for us. I requested my food be very lightly salted and they obliged me, love this option. Four of us dined .. our server was prompt, friendly and attentive.
