I write this review with a heavy heart as my little guy passed away last Friday . He was about 14 give or take as I rescued him. I live the West Loop where vets let's just say aren't so great and seem to all be owned by corporations where your animal sees a different vet every time and where their rules and regulations are not customer friendly. I'm very fortunate to be able to handle the cost of care without a problem but the vets in my area often make it feel like they're doing you a favor to treat your dog. When I saw that Kindred opened I went in to see how they operate. I was thrilled to know that Dr, Ho herself owned Kindred and while she has other vets working for her I knew that absent an emergency I would be able to have one vet who really understood and knew my little Chihuahua as he aged. While Dr. Ho wasn't overly emotive she was beyond courteous and obviously cared very much about my dog. Sadly, my dog had failing kidneys and there really is no cure. I never once thought she was performing unnecessary treatments nor did I ever feel I was being ripped off. Yes, caring for a sick animal is not cheap but it's part of owning a dog. And in today's world there are great insurance options which I will take advantage of next time. I do think people should recognize what it takes to become a vet and open a clinic. She had to do great in college and obviously pay for vet school. And she had the gumption to open a clinic herself which should be applauded. Dr. Ho was extremely empathetic when I brought my dog in who passed the night before he was going to have to be put down. And her staff was always courteous and helpful particularly at the end when I needed certain things to care for the dog. I don't think it's fair or appropriate to blame the staff for not answering medical questions as that is not their job and if they ever gave advice that was contra-indicated I can only imagine the grief they would suffer. Bottom line - Dr. Ho and Kindred is a wonderful place to have your pet cared for and I highly recommend them. read more

I had a bad experience with Kindred Veterinary clinic, my dog was diagnosed with enlarged heart so the only treatment available is piomendan 3.75 mlgs and furosamide 20mlgs they didn't tell me that is a treatment to be taken for life nor prescribed any refills so every time I needed a refill I'm ask to take the dog for a follow up to do more check ups and charge hundreds of dollars every time they just open an online Kindred pharmacy but to get your order it requires an approval and I wasn't informed of that by their vets who don't even time to do so because they're too busy all the time for that reason my dog was out of meds for 4 days fainting and with trouble brithing I've called again and they told me to go to the clinic on 18th street Chicago if I needed meds sooner because they just approved it and it was going to take 5 days to get it from their online store which cost me 12.99 per 90 pills or $00.67 cent per pill I went to pick up 27 pills until the online order arrives they just charge me $42.00 dollars for 27 pills more than 3 time higher than their own online store? Is ridiculously abusive and dishonest practice read more

Sadly updating this review to 1 star. I've been bringing my cat here for years and was under the impression he was healthy. Though I ALWAYS PAY MORE then what I'm quoted, I was willing to do it for the health of my pet. My cat recently experienced what I thought was constipation and was sitting in his litter box. Kindred told me to bring him in and they charged me 300 to amount to "they don't know what's wrong". I went to another vet and they were able to determine my cat had a common urinary blockage that could've killed him if left untreated. They were shocked that my vet hadn't diagnosed this and was sent to an ER vet. Thousands of dollars later, my cat is healthy and ok. All of this could've have been prevented had Kindred taken the time to run tests and properly diagnose him. This place is money hungry and the health of your pet comes second. Do your homework and get a second option from what they say. It could save your pets life read more

If you a person of modest means DO NOT GO HERE. Took my pet in for what turned out to be what I was told MILD ear and eye infections, that was repeated to me several times, MILD. $616 and $100 Lyft rides later, I'm told I need to come back again. I can't imagine what the cost would be for SEVERE ear and eye infections. They are not very transparent about their prices, I was charged 2 different prices for ear cleanings (none of which I gave expressed permission for). Had no idea they charged for follow up visits nor why I needed to 2 eye stain tests. Even after all the testing their was no conclusive answer to what was wrong, so here is a bunch of medication we are going nickel and dime you on. They don't actually demonstrate how to use the medication, they just read off the labels to you. Had no idea how to get a cat to swallow a pillow, there was a lot of yelling and pounding my fist against the counter because pills are dropping on the floor and I'm shouting at how expensive they are.They use a lot of buzz words like "family operated", "community based", "women owned", but it's actually FOR PROFIT CAPITALISM and GENTRIFICATION at it's worse. This is the exact type of place you would find in the West Loop or River North. My gas and electric bill are due in a couple of days and I have no idea how I'm going to pay because Kindred has drained me of all my funds. My cat is going to have eat junk food from the grocery store and use a dirty litter box for a month because I have no money. The stray I took will have to put back on the street to most likely die because I can't even afford a ride to a no kill shelter! Now I am sitting here on my pet's birthday feeling like a failed owner because I can't afford to do anything nice for her. Happy Holidays from Kindred Veterinary! P.S. I can't say enough good things about this practice! Are they the dirt cheapest? NO. But if you can afford it why would you ever want to take your beloved family member ( aka your pet) to the dirt cheapest place? A beautiful, clean place with friendly staffers all around. It seems that overbooking is the issue because with having to wait 30 minutes beyond the scheduled appointment is unacceptable. There were no emergencies or dramatic walk-ins to delay the appointment ... During the wait, 20 minutes in we were advised to have the animal separated into an examing room to wait for the doctor without us, and to let the doctor do an exam BEFORE talking to us owners about symptoms and the concerns; a very friendly staffer advised us several times that the doctor was on her way - even brought water for the animal. We left after 33 minutes of wait and received a call from a doctor within 2 minutes of leaving, with excellent sales skills she tried to convince us to re-schedule, even offering to comp the office visit fee. This was the second strike for Kindred: the first one came when another ill animal of ours was given three different medications (at a pretty high cost, as these meds are anywhere, actually) with the advice that "one of them should work." Not too scientific an approach... As nice and pretty as the place is, as friendly as the front desk staffers are, as hard as they all try to get and keep your business, the seeming lack of caring about patients' time and needs and the seeming lack of long-time, real-life experience in animal care along with solid standards of the profession is worrying. Buster is my first cat. I'm middle aged and live alone so having Buster find me is a gift and he's invaluable to me at this point after saving my mental health during the gal-darned pandemic. Do you think I'd just pick a vet that's convenient to care for my little man? Heck no! I did my research, talked to people, googled, and even used Yelp and all paths led me to Kindred Veterinery (pilsen). Sure enough, my first impression was great: Dr Ho and her staff were on time, and even though I was suffering anxiety, sweaty and teary eyed, and a middle aged man they made me not feel judged and - enough about me - Buster was treated well, but they were thorough. Before they did anything beyond the consult they took me through why and what and what each cost was. I'm on a budget and they helped me prioritize things I needed done for Buster without affecting his care. That's worth five stars right there! Since that first visit, I've been back annually, and a few times when I was concerned about my buddy I brought him in, and every time, whether it's Dr Ho or Dr Vanderveldi I always leave happy (and we all know going to the vet isn't fun so to leave with a smile is crazy). Unless something changes Kindred and the people there will be Buster's healthcare team. Give them a look and I bet you'll drive almost an hour for the kind of care you'll get at Kindred (yes, I drive about 60mins to get to pilsen if there's traffic - worth it!!!!). Visiting Kindred Veterinary was an awful experience. When I made the initial appt for my cat, I inquired about what was entailed in the check up in addition to chipping options coupled with cost. My intent was only to have an initial check and chipping. The receptionist was very aloof when probed; wherefore, twas clear that she was rushing me off the phone - alas, she did not honor my wishes to just schedule the aforesaid. When I called back to see if I could more information before my actual appointment, the receptionist again behaved as if she did not know what I was talking about. After more queries, the receptionist reluctantly referenced a payment plan and still would not allow me to simply schedule a routine check up and chip. Per the actual day of the appt, Dr. Ho was rude and very condescending. She reprimanded myself and my boyfriend for not having a mask as if we were children- she absolutely has no formidable "bedside" manners. I could not ask a question as she raced thru her spiel about my cat's health with no recourse clearly. Her main objective was to pretty much sucker me into agreeing to all of these "procedures" under the guise of protecting my pet's health - alas, it was just a way for her to exploit me for money. After her overture, she informed that the all she referenced would be $437 dollars. When I inquired about a payment plan she spoke of their plan "Scratch Pay" - what I did not like was the fact that this company ran a credit check to determine eligibility which is wrong. There are only a certain amount of times one's credit can be check and it will go against ones' credit report initially to run it. I have never heard of a payment plan being contingent on credit - isn't the purpose of a pay plan to receive assistance without a credit check being a requirement. Dr. Ho rushed thru the initial appointment and did not even come out and acknowledge my leaving with my pet due to the inability to pay $437 up front. Her behavior was not only rude but very insulting. My experience has prompted my follow up with the state of IL to file a compliant. Kindred Vet is exploitative and provides no real as it is clear Dr. Ho is more concerned with money. Dr. Ho and her staff lack emotional wherewithal clearly as their inability to provide great customer service was self evident. Please do not go to the vet for anything - I would never trust Dr. Ho or her staff. Their unwillingness to answer my questions confirms my belief that they would probably provided shitty service anyway. Please reach out to the Human Society as they have a great program and their customer service is AWESOME! Dr. Ho and her crew can suck it! read more

They are real real expensive you will pay 400 dollars to start with, the veterinarian will not come out to talk to you she calls you on the phone, the staff does not how to talk to people they act like they don't know anything , all they care about is the money they don't give you your dog until they are paid, go somewhere else ho to an animal hospital , very poor read more

I recently transferred my dog to Kindred Veterinary and we could not be happier! I did not like his old vet anymore because we would wait to be seen for hours and his vet would only see him for 5 minutes! At Kindred, they take the time to take down your pet's medical history, your concerns and answer any questions you have. The whole staff is amazing and they strive to provide your pet with the best care! I have taken my dog, Milo twice already and he comes out very happy! They are in walking distance from us, fairly affordable and they also give your pet a cute little gift bag at the end of the visit. We highly recommend! read more

What a great addition to the neighborhood! A local business where the vets clearly care about their patients. This is our first family puppy so I was a bit apprehensive about a curbside drop-off (due to COVID). However the tech welcomed our pup, and within 15 minutes, I had a half-hour conversation with the vet, Betsy. She was super cordial, very knowledgeable, and could easily relate as she has her own puppy as well. All in all, 45 minutes well spent. We got the right meds immediately and some great advice to take home as well. Most importantly, Flossie was happy as could be when I got her back! read more

3 days have passed since knowing that the vet office was open for business. So I called to make an appointment for my little dog, the receptionist asked me about the reason and I answered. She said that she needed to call me back because she was very, very busy at the moment and that she called me back to make an appointment for next week 'cause they were booked. I told her my first and last name, which she could say it without trouble (everybody not Spanish speaking has a difficult time saying it), left my cell number and she said she would call me when she was not that busy. I could hear the change in her tone the moment she heard my last name, but being in a still mostly Mexican neighborhood, what did she expect?? And...she never returned the call. Being 3 days barely open I really don't think that they were as busy as she claimed and I was treated very unfairly. Did she need to hear a different accent, maybe from a non-latin one? read more

By far one of the MOST DISREPECTFUL AND UNPROFESSIONAL places I have ever called. Today, on July 21, 2022, at 3:18 p.m., I contacted Kindred Veterinary care to inquire about acupuncture for my dog. The conservation started off fine until I asked if someone could tell me "what the doctor considers when determining whether a dog is a candidate for acupuncture." The lady said "I can't tell you whether your dog is a candidate." I explained to her that I was not asking whether my dog was a candidate but that due to her car anxiety and multiple medical conditions, I wanted to know what the doctor considers when making the decision. I said if there is a condition that automatically precludes a dog from receiving the service, I would like to know before I subject my dog to a long car ride. The lady began talking over me in a loud voice saying that she did not make that determination. I explained that her conduct was unprofessional, rude and that at all times I allowed her to speak without interruption. I tried (in vain) to ask another question. Before I finished, the lady said "I can't answer your question." I asked her how she could say that when she didn't know what my question was. At this point, the woman (who is answering the phone for Kindred Veterinary and is representing their facility) is raising her voice like she is talking to a child. I concluded that any further discussion with this woman was waste a time and was going to make me more upset than I already was. Therefore, I terminated the conservation. If Kindred doesn't treat pet parents with respect, I can only imagine what they would do to a pet who is in their care. Based on my initial interaction with this business, I would NOT RECOMMEND Kindred Veterinary to anyone. read more
