When it comes to car repair, You sometimes hear the refrain, "Don't go to the dealer!" Well if I knew then what I know now, I would have brought my RAV4 for service here long ago. The issue that brought me to Kinderhook Toyota was a rather challenging one involving the charcoal canister (part of the emissions system.) The faulty part would cause the Check Engine and 4WD lights to come on and stay on. I went through about five repair shops first, to no avail, before finally surrendering to the dealer! Within a couple days' time in their shop the situation appeared fixed. When the trouble lights reappeared, they honored the original job with additional warranty repair work. Evidently some filter, something that wasn't caught earlier, was allowing water to re-enter the canister and had to be replaced. They also replaced the canister one last time when the new filter went in. Problem solved. Even knowing I was receiving OEM parts and service by experienced Toyota repair techs, I was pleasantly surprised how reasonable the billing was for all the work. What's more, I had the same tech (Marco) for the entire time I brought the vehicle to the shop. Smart. Once we licked the canister issue, Marco made some valid recommendations for other service - all things this 2011 ride with 145k miles sorely needed. Shoutout to Sarah and the guys at the service desks. They're the face of the Company and always present themselves as competent professionals. I'm pretty set for now but I am more than happy to travel the 45 minutes from home to Kinderhook Toyota in Ghent NY for anything I need done on the car in the future. I trust them. read more

This is by far the worst Toyota dealership experience I have had in 26 years as a Toyota customer, and I have been to many. I came in for a simple replacement key for my RAV4. Three months later, I still do not have one, and I am still waiting on a refund check. Here is what happened: They programmed a new key, handed it to me, and I discovered right there in the parking lot that the remote did not work. When I pointed this out, they explained it away as a "bad key," which means they charged me for a key they knew was defective. They promised to reorder it and call me. They did not call. Two months passed before I finally scheduled another appointment. I drove in and was told they could not program anything because their internet was down and I would need to reschedule. They said they would call me. They did not. Then, on the day of the rescheduled appointment, they called to say the replacement key still had not arrived due to a FedEx delay. At no point in this entire ordeal did anyone from the office follow up as promised. Every single time, I had to call them. When I raised my frustration, staff were dismissive and deflected responsibility. One person casually mentioned that "70% of new keys can fail," as if that were an acceptable explanation for the situation. I finally gave up and canceled everything. They said a refund check was on its way. Two months later, no check, no call. The incompetence here runs from top to bottom, including management. We are shopping for another vehicle. This dealership is not on our list. This is why: Several years ago, I brought my then two year old Toyota CPO vehicle in for service- an oil and filter change w/ tire rotation, as per the CPO maintenance agreement. The service manager, at the time, described to me how I must be mistaken and, further, that I had purchased a third-party warranty from the Toyota dealer who sold me the vehicle which Kinderhook Toyota could not possibly honor. He said all of this while looking at a 4' x 6' poster hung on the wall extolling the benefits of purchasing a Toyota CPO vehicle. Apparently he was, somehow, under the impression that only this particular dealership sold CPO vehicles... Toyota NA got him straightened out on this point, and I did proceed to have a couple services performed and did purchase parts/supplies over the next year or so. Those basic experiences were generally acceptable. At the mileage recommended by Toyota for coolant and transmission fluid services, I called to inquire if it was something Kinderhook Toyota could perform. Because I generally maintain my own vehicles, I like to know what somebody else will be doing to my vehicle when they service it. The new service manager had what can only be described as a meltdown in response to me asking him what these services consisted of in their shop. Expletives were invoked as he shouted that they hook it up to a machine which 'sucks out the old stuff and pushes in the new stuff', and why did I need to know. This is behavior I will not tolerate and certainly not reward monetarily. So, I went to another dealer, asked the very same question and received a detailed explanation given in a courteous and informative manner. Obviously, I chose to have that dealership perform the services. A positive customer service experience pays lasting dividends. I have subsequently purchased parts/supplies and have had one minor repair performed by them as well. We have avoided Kinderhook Toyota ever since. A negative customer service experience leaves an impression which lasts forever. My negative experiences at Kinderhook Toyota sprang immediately to mind when we begin discussing where to go vehicle shopping this time around. read more

UPDATE: I went back in March 2024 and bought a brand new 2024 RAV4 Hybrid and I couldn't be happier with it. I once again sought Brett out to help me and just like last time, he was courteous, patient, and not pressuring at all. It took me a good two weeks to come to a decision, as this was a much bigger purchase than the last RAV4 I bought from him in 2017. We called and exchanged emails throughout those two weeks and he was patient with me all the way through. I got exactly what I wanted; model, trim level, and extra packages and accessories all at a fair price. I got a very fair price for my trade-in and the transaction was smooth as butter. Their mechanics are pure trash clocking hours and fixing nothing. I contacted Toyota who explained this dealership only uses Toyota for branding and Toyota doesn't vouchers for their work . The service department is a major scam. My mother brought her car in for regular maintenance (which included tire rotation). After paying, she was driving out of the service garage door and they flagged her down to tell her there was a nail in her tire. In the wall, sticking completely out of the side. Are you telling me they rotated the tires and didn't see this? Because if that's the case then it happened in their care! I have no doubt this was an intentional act to rip off my mother as they collected another $1200 from her to replace four tires. I am considering reporting them to the BBB. They were also running a sale that started in a week or so and wouldn't apply it to her situation. And told her if she's leaves and doesn't fix it, don't call them again. Wow! read more

Loved this dealership. Bought my Highlander here and had it serviced for five years. Lately, though, I've had problems. Here are just three. Tires needed replacement. Their price was $1,500. Same tires at Costco...under $1,000. New tires needed replacement lug nuts. The price was $220 at Kinderhook parts department. Amazon price...$22, Costco price...$32 and in stock. I'm sorry; I expect a markup, but not one thousand percent! Back in 2021 my business closed due to COVID. Toyota financial offered to defer my payments for four months. I was so grateful. Now, at the end of the lease, they demanded over $2,400 in interest for that kindness, and they threatened to destroy our credit if there was any delay in paying them. I complained to the finance manager at Kinderhook Toyota and was told they had nothing to do with Toyota Financial and he was sorry but could not help us. Since then, the newspapers and internet have been full of complaints about Toyota Financial and their heinous business practices. In summary, we have purchased three Toyota vehicles and were planning on a fourth. That ship has sailed. We will never do business with Toyota again. read more

Friday of Memorial Day weekend, and we get hybrid and 12v charging system malfunction messages as we tootle up the Taconic Parkway, 100 miles from home and 100 miles to go. I googled for a Toyota dealer around Hudson and found Kinderhook. That was great luck. They took in our Rav4 Prime to at least look at the 12v battery, and in about 90 minutes they announced that it was all fixed. This was huge for us. They had no slots available for repairs, especially of an EV, and yet they took care of us. Turns out a recall repair done a month earlier by our local dealer didn't properly reconnect a fan that needed to run. The tech at Kinderhook figured it all out and put us back on the road. Way beyond what we expected them to be able to do, they did it. Cost to us: Zero. They'd deal with the dealer who did the recall repair with no need for us to do anything. We had been jerked around in the past by a ton of different dealerships. We dealt with Frank. Let me tell you what a wonder experience it was buying a car here and with frank. My parents had driven my 2002 dying Subaru in to get me a new car as a surprise. All in all, they took me in with them the next day to sign all the paperwork. I took my beloved corolla to Kinderhook Toyota for a recall. It was to replace a computer where the weld could come loose. My car is very well taken care of by my husband and I'm pretty car savvy and know what sounds right and doesn't. Imagine my surprise when the service dept. called me to tell me that when they started my car to bring it in the shop there was a fairly loud squeal and I needed to have the serpentine belt replaced for just shy of $100. Not a big repair but I declined it anyway because as far as my husband and I can tell It would be TOTALLY UNNECESSARY!!! When I got to the dealership I popped the hood, There was absolutely no excessive play in the belt and no visible wear. I started the car and my husband listened to the engine. Neither my husband nor I could hear anything that sounded like a bad belt. I really felt like they had the car there, weren't making any money on the recall and were trying to make up money somewhere else. I had my father's 94 T-100 in to change the right outside door handle.My father passed away and all I wanted was his beloved truck. The repair was good but the tech. left greasy fingerprints on the fabric of the door panel. This truck is priceless to me. Would the fingerprints be left on a $30,000 vehicle or just on my 2,500 truck. Now I have to wait till warm weather to thoroughly clean the door. After one tiny glitch(previous renter was a bit late in returning) our vacation plans went off without a hitch! Brand new minivan with all the extras, unlimited mileage and to top it off the salesman didn't charge us the full rental price( which was a steal at only $35. per day anyway). This review is in regard to the service department, NOT the sales department, We brought our clean Toyota Tacoma in for a recall regarding the level of rust on the frame. It was deemed under warranty to receive a "corrosion treatment". We received a loaner vehicle for 1 day while the treatment was administered. The truck was driven for one day before we noticed the following: 1. Driveway splattered/dripped on with black tar like substance 2. Substance was brought into house as it was stepped on in the dark and tracked inside....lovely 3. Substance was thick, wet and since truck was driven, now covered in dirt, grass, dust etc. 4. Substance was so carelessly applied it was on the muffler, fan belt, wheel wells, body paint, a significant portion of the engine block and components.....it was EVERYWHERE! Truck was brought back to Toyota by a very upset customer (us) and the reply from the service department was more or less "that's the way Toyota tells us to do it......" Wow. They gave us another rental because because they offered to clean up the truck and give back to us in the clean condition it was brought in. 2 days later, we back to pick up our truck: NOT CLEAN. They didn't do a thing, except perhaps wipe off the body. Why would they even offer to rectify the situation and then simply not do it? Good question! We are not normally "complainers", or even confrontational people, but this level of poor customer service is astounding. I think it it had dripped all over one of THEIR beautifully custom stamped driveways, perhaps they would care more. We didn't even receive a phone call or follow up from the GM. Overall, the unprofessional manner in which this situation was handled was disappointing to say the least. Never have we been so insulted as a consumer. We would be happy to remove this review if the situation was rectified. At this time, it has been over a week with no follow up. Best of luck should you choose to use them. read more
