What I thought was strange is that the portion of the train with the food closed down just around noon. Amtrak, Amtrak, Amtrak... what can I say? For one, though my departures from this station are…read moreusually no more than a few minutes late, freight traffic usually means I arrive at my destination an hour late. With the comfortable seats, adequate leg room, and free wi-fi, I usually don't mind the delay, but your time might be more important than mine. Still, Amtrak is a convenient, affordable option for those medium-length trips. Regarding this station in particular, it's pretty barebones. There is a small waiting room that will seat maybe six or eight people as well as restrooms for men and women alike. There is no ticket counter or attendant, but since Amtrak has smartphone apps to buy your tickets and then show right on your phone, the frontier-like, unmanned train shack in the wilderness (or just outside Amsterdam city limits) isn't bad. It also offers free parking and has room for maybe a dozen cars. I've never had any trouble leaving my car there while going out of town for a week, but, if I had left it at the Albany-Rensselaer Station, for example, I'd have to spend another $30 to pay for parking, so free parking is a nice plus.

The complementary breakfast was extremely sparse. No protein whatsoever except cold overcooked hard boiled eggs. Upon checking out, we tried to get a portfolio copy, and the manager wouldn'toblige us, then a verbally and physically assaulted me. This property accommodates and emphasizes their accommodations to transient construction workers, they are not interested in small time family travel. This experience will give us second thought about booking a Wyndham Microtel again.

The staff was at the front desk late and that's why we picked this hotel for late night checkin. The first room we were given smelled smokey, moreso than the hallway, and they were nice about finding us another room. Strangely for a Tuesday night the only room he said was not taken was a suite, so we were upgraded and the hallway on the second floor smelled worse, but the room was fine. Note, no elevators, just stairs here. The couch had a deep tear in the arm but the bed was firm enough for me and I slept well. It worked for a mid price hotel to just stop for the night on a road trip.

The owners are TERRIBLE people who threatened us with lawyers for telling them that their business is poorly run. It is a motel that is run like an airbnb with a code you put in to get into your room. There is no staff on site. After emailing the owners about the dirty towels, dirty bedding, dirty pillows and possible MOLD they said that it hasn't been cleaned in "2 weeks" due to a family emergency in the hospital. It seems to me like if you can't clean your property then you should cancel and refund any existing reservations. People left their shampoo in the shower the last time someone was there and that wasn't removed further proving the place wasn't cleaned. The hand towel had something yellow all over it. The bedding had some type of red sauce (maybe blood?) stain all over it and was always damp due to the massive ac/heating unit that is too big for the room. We had to purchase our own toilet paper as there wasn't any and the remote to the tv had batteries that had exploded in it. We also purchased our own batteries so we could use the tv at night. The door facing the road was UNLOCKED. The owners are not locals and live in NJ and frankly do not care about this property as proven by the fact that they're trying to sell it (for 1.1 million dollars. For a potentially mold infested motel!)
