    Siomai - IG @bougiefoodieboi

There are 2 locations of this place - the one in Kingsway and the one in Royal City Centre. This one is the Kingsway location with much better rating. Apparently this place opens at 10am, despite some sources saying 11am so when we got there right at 11am, it was pretty busy, but we still managed to get a table immediately. We got the yema cream cheese latte specialty latte, the kwek kwek (fried quail egg), siomai, pork isaw, and kare kare with garlic rice (1.50CAD surcharge). The latte was very flavorful and one of the better ones out there, just a bit on the sweeter side but manageable as we shared the drink. The kwek kwek was pretty good with the slightly sweet dipping sauce, and the pork isaw was nicely barbecued and pairs well with the spiced vinegar. The siomai was cold and we flagged the server, and they were nice enough to produce a newly steamed fresh batch for us instead of just reheating the siomai on the table, so we effectively got an order of siomai for free. The heated siomai was pretty good with lots of filling and very garlicky, representative of a lot of Filipino dishes. The kare kare was great - the pork belly was crispy and the peanut sauce was hearty. The garlic rice further adds on to the flavor, but I'd argue that plain rice still works excellent for this dish. Service was great as the server is attentive and nice. He recommended us to takeout the cold siomai to steam/reheat later to be enjoyed, owning up to the mistakes and quickly remedying it, which is indicative of excellent service.

Super delicious Filipino near Metrotown. I was pleasantly surprised by how good the dishes are. Portions may look small, but I am fully stuffed and was not able to finish all I ordered. Really good stuff! #FilipinoFood #Metrotown #Foodie #Dinner #Restaurant

For those clients whose asking for the parking its free street parking except infront(few spots metered parking) at the rear there's like 10 spots free parking for this resto. Filipino owned, service is homey and owners are really hands-on always checking what else is needed by the cuatomers. There's another branch in Newwestminster(same owner) Not so big place, roughly can accomodate 40 heads. Neat place to enjoy authentic Filipino cuisnes. Interior design is simple with Pinoy inspired ceiling light.good for family and kids, maybe with small group as well. We ordered the crispy kare-kare and it was really good, not beef but fried crispy pork belly, the sayce is very rich and veggies were cooked perfectly, the shrimp paste is the sweet type which is not bad. They have an all day Pinoy breakfast and we tried the tapsilog tapa(fried beef) with 2 over easy fried egg and fried rice accompanied by mango and onion side dish, this one is also good but im not really into sweet kind of beef. Serving size is just right not so big amd not so small. For pur sweet tooth we got the ice catchang or Filipino called it the famois halo-halo.We also bought some rice cakes... looks like our blood sigar will be elevated today hahahaha. They have a big TV airing Filipino shows. Sumtotal we enjoyed our lunch so so good to eat proud Pinoy foods. Big question!? Should I recommend this place? The answer is a big YES. We will revisit soon to try other dishes in their menu. Remember free street and rear parking. Kudos! Proud Pinoy! Mabuhay!

Lomi and batchoy... both lovely fresh and flavorful broths with a variety of tasty additions...

Great family-style resto with classic Filipino faves. Breakfast all day, and loaded with families out for dinner. Only 1 server on, but his family pitches in to clear when needed. Cute baby, too.

This was my first visit at this Filipino restaurant and we were very impressed with the service and food. We ordered a number of items to try and they were very tasty. Portion size was decent for the price. The service was excellent. Staff checked up on us regularly and provided extra bowls, plates and cutlery as requested. My only complaint was the size of the restaurant. It is challenging to accommodate larger groups as the restaurant was very busy during the lunch rush. We were very cozy at our table of 7 people and felt like there was not enough elbow space. However, I think smaller groups of 6 or less would find this location very enjoyable.

I thought it was a burger place befoer looking at the menu. They do fish & chips, salads, wraps, burgers, burritos, fried chicken, and fries. This is pretty impressive I must say. Special mention. I just stood there and stared. The menu boards inside the restaurant run the entire length of the counter. Staff are friendly, though the ordering is quite slow. As Andrew M mentioned, the layout is indeed quite inefficient. There are only 4 small tables (8 seats total) for the entire place, along a wall. The rest of it is one giant kitchen. Best to do takeout to be honest. The fish and chips were pretty decent, but quite pricy. Not great value. Fries were honestly quite mediocre. I'd stick to the cheaper items such as wraps or burgers. Wouldn't mind coming back to try some of the other stuff at some point.

They're the best & extremely expensive. Chef knows his hold temps too! See pics. OMG I saw someone order falafel plate and they got huge, made to order falafel!!! My next visit is this!!! 2) Clean: The whole restaurant was clean (minus the table behind us who left). Nice open kitchen so you can see everything. I don't know if chef will kill me, but he offered us the staff-only handwashing station bc we came in filthy after a day of gardening. I don't know if this is offered to every guest. But people need clean hands & a toilet. This is why you won't get above 4* 3) Food: Chef offered me if I didn't love his recommendation, he would pay double. I ate 1 bite and told him to keep his $$. He offered me the Crunchy Chicken Wrap. It's SOOOO loaded w chicken & huge, made 2 meals for me. But next time I really want spicy chicken, or Angry fish. 4) Place: I give the place 3.5 stars...only bc there's only 8 seats (very busy), and no toilet. I was happy chef let us wash our hands but I think this was a one off. People need a place to wash their hands, despite staff only areas. Also people like to go to the bathroom when they're dining in. 5) Parking: you can park out back: they share space w Beefway, or park along Kingsway off hours. Chef was so communicative & generous in my order. My friend got the double burger, and we shared chili fries. Everything was top tier, even the chili fries. Just not chilli: just spiced beef crumble. But to all the fries haters who posted: you are SOOO off! These were twice fried fries (crispy outside, soft inside), plus the spicy dust is amazing! Edit: Downlow fries have better dust. Also...good sign: we came in about 10:15pm...they close midnight. They were packed with in-house diners, delivery drivers, and their own website delivery. You know a place is good when the stoner-hour is blowing up their delivery!

For food, we got their achari chicken from their tandoor menu. It was really good, we went for a medium spice level for it but I think we could have done hot. The flavours were really good and chicken was cooked very well! We also got their kathal tikka (which is basically jackfruit), it's so hard to find that in Vancouver but Hariyali did an incredible job! Everyone on the table were a big fan of it! Last night my 3 friends and I visited this awesomely eclectic, dimmed lighted little dive on East Hastings Street. Truly enjoyed looking at their decor of vintage animals and rock/heavy music. We had: Jackalopes Lager, Strathcona Pilsner and Pickle Back (Canadian Club Rye with a shot of pickle juice). My friend said the pickle juice made the Pickle Back surprisingly refreshing. The Rib Splitter: The blackberry bbq sauce ribs are insanely good. The meat just falls off the bone. The vegetables were seasoned perfectly and cooked to perfection. Loved the hot skillet that kept the mashed potatoes temperature hot/warm. Hands down, the best ribs in town. Bake-up the Dead: breaded chicken breast served with mashed potatoes and vegetables. The chicken was seasoned well and juicy. The house made gravy added another dimension and depth to the already perfectly cooked chicken. Veggie Burger: my friend said it was an excellent veggie burger in that the homemade patty was moist and very filling. Wouldn't miss beef eating this veggie burger. Bead pudding: 2oz of bourbon solidified this light and sweet dessert. My friends liked the bread pudding but I didn't as I usually don't like sweet bread. Hoping For another option on my next visit. Don't get me wrong, the food is good here. I ordered the gamjutang and seafood pancake. Having seen a recent post on Instagram and reading the reviews, I thought I finally found a match to my favorite gamjutang (from Damso), and didn't have to travel all the way downtown. Unfortunately, Damso is yet to be beat. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with the gamjutang here, but it's lacking. The bones barely had any meat to them, and it just lacked spice/onions. The bowl of rice they gave you was on the smaller side as well. The seafood pancake seems to have skyrocketed in price too. From looking at Google reviews of the picture of the menu, it seems the price increased by $10; it's now closer to $30. Anyways, what really disappointed me wasn't the food. It was the service. I came in shortly after 6:40pm on a Thursday. The first room was booked up, so the gentleman took me to the side room. It was a bit odd, as I was the only one in that room the entire time I was there (2 hours). I wouldn't be so annoyed if it wasn't the fact that barely anyone checked up on me. Initially in the first hour, they were still attentive; then after the food arrived, they forgot about me. I kept thinking surely, someone would check up on me from time to time; perhaps to refill my water, but then 30 minutes passed, then an hour. Finally after so long my server showed up again; I have no idea where she disappeared to. I quickly asked for the bill and packed up what I couldn't finish and left. I'm still willing to give this place a second chance, but they need to be more attentive next time. Overall the food was good, though lacking in some areas. In the end, I'll still recommend this restaurant if your in the area and want some good Korean food.
