JHK takes an analytical approach to the study of martial arts and teaches power and precision in addition to speed. Master Kim can claim a direct lineage to the early TKD masters, having been personally instructed by the founder of TKD, General Choi. I began my practice at JHK TKD in March of last year and feel like part of a family there. Classes are available several times per day, 6 days each week and my tuition allows me unlimited access. We're encouraged to treat the dojang as we would a second home, and I've always found the relaxed atmosphere to be welcoming and tolerant of all personalities, abilities, and walks of life. This is not your typical Kobra Kai, take-no-prisoners dojo, where muscular dudes walk around with their sleeves cut off. Women should be aware of the basic self defense techniques and this class is the best way to start on this path. It's truly a great class because it's hands on, realistic self defense course that practice through common scenarios like wrist grabs, hair pulls, chokes, etc. The class focuses on physical techniques you can use to break free of an attacker and escaping. It is not about overtaking your attacker, but getting away and running to safety. You will learn and practice simple self defense techniques that don't require exceptional strength but will get you out of any situation. I now encourage all women I know to take this class as it is not only a very useful class but also a fun class.

The teacher Yi tries to get 3 to 6 months advance from you and even if something as terrible as Covid happens, they will not refund for a single week. For years they will not give you new uniforms telling you that the shipment is stuck for over 2 years while the pants are upto your child's knees. It's a joke! He gave us a price quote of $145/month thereafter with a 6 month contract. Their classes are Tuesday and Thursday at 5p and Sat mornings, which unfortunately do not coordinate with our schedule but I was very pleased that they contacted us and were quick to reply and answer all of our questions. If our schedule becomes more flexible in the future we would definitely look to invest in Lee's for training.
