I've been with Framework BJJ Seattle for nearly 5 years. It truly is a family ("Frame-ily")…read moreatmosphere amongst the training partners. What an amazing vibe! There's no ego. There's no politics. There's just good-natured, intense-as-you-need-to-be, technique-focused, wholesome training. The flexible class schedule throughout the week is also a HUGE plus. Early morning classes? Check. Midday classes? Got you covered. Evening Classes? Absolutely! Weekend classes and open mats? Oss! Gi and No-gi? Definitely - both available multiple times per week, I should add. And, we also have a Women's & Non-Binary class! And if you are a beginner, the Foundations program devised by the seasoned instructors is the best that I've seen throughout my 8+ years of training in the US and in Asia. The curriculum covers what you need to know so that you can learn to handle live sparring at your own pace. Regardless of whether you are a newbie or a grizzled mat monster (or something in between), Framework is a professionally-operated, technically-sound, members-oriented, welcoming BJJ dojo that is sure to have what you are looking for! Come get some!

Coming from northeast…read moreside of Seattle I would say the only tricky thing is pulling into their drive way where they have available parking. If that lot is filled you can also park up top where the recreational park is. As a jiu jitsu journey man I have found what I like and what I try to avoid when I visit a BJJ club. The culture and energy at frameworks is hands down one of the best vibes I've ever experienced. The best part about this school is there are a lot of high level practitioners so you are sure to gain a lot just from the rolls. As mentioned earlier, framework has one of the best welcoming all inclusive vibes that I look for when visiting. They don't have a bro-ey cult vibe that can be associated unfortunately with some schools. Overall, if you want to learn jiu jitsu, whether you've trained for years or have considered it but are hesitant because it can be intimidating, I can assure you that you will feel very welcomed if you visit and train at Framework. I've been doing jiu jitsu for a lil over a decade, visiting and training at many schools so I'm pretty confident with my take over at framework. Thanks for reading!

I had planned a work trip up to Seattle and I usually try to find a school nearby to counter all…read morethe sodium heavy company meals and drinks that I expect on work trips. Midnight Jiu-Jitsu was nowhere near the offices I needed to visit nor my hotel. Honestly, what intrigued me was the non-profit model that Midnight had and they allow you a free week's trial, again a week is usually very generous by most school standards and usually for absolute newbs; it's sometimes a nice surprise not to pay for a drop-in or mat fee but you shouldn't expect it, it's a business, respect that. The evening of class, I tried to get there early, evening fighting through rush hour traffic. What I didn't count on was how f'ing difficult it was to find parking. I grabbed my gear bag and ran into class about 15 minutes late. I knew from their website that they gave permission to come late or leave early. As background, depending on the school coming late is anywhere from a minor faux pas to an egregious trespass. Despite knowing this, I was expecting to just sit out and just watch or knock out burpees or push ups. Instead, someone came over when there was a break in the class. I got briefed on what to do and was allowed to change in the back and join the class. Tom and Aaron were there but they just said to call them by their names, again depending on the school titles are a big thing. The class was fun, the rolls were challenging and I learned a couple things. Moreover, I stuck around until closing and got to just sit and chat with Aaron and apologize for my lateness which was totally brushed off as not a big deal. If I'm ever visiting again, I'm going to head back up there-it was enjoyable physically, mentally and socially.

I visited the website and filled out a short form to view the schedule, followed by a longer form to register for a class. Shortly after, I received a message from Alex asking a question that I had already answered on the form, which led to some immediate confusion. He mentioned a required screening, but before we could go through any actual questions, he asked if I wanted my class canceled. Without waiting for my response, he canceled it within two minutes. After further discussion, he mentioned that any hostility (I'm assuming this was me asking for clarification) would be met with a similar response to protect those in his studio who have been victims of violent assault. As someone who has experienced violent assault myself, I was surprised that the owner of a martial arts studio, who is used to working with people in this situation, would be so unwilling to answer questions from someone simply trying to understand what they're getting into. I'm curious about what hostility I presented and the owner was unable to let me know. I can't speak to the overall culture or community here, but this was a very odd and discouraging way to welcome someone new to BJJ. I'd recommend going to other studios with clear communication and warm welcomes.

The teachers here are amazing, they're not just there to coach, they actually jump in and work out with you, which makes the whole experience so much more motivating. This place has changed over time, but it still delivers a workout that's fun and keeps you coming back. I'm still mourning the loss of Blended (their smoothie and açaí shop), who doesn't love a post-workout treat that feels like a reward? Right now, that space looks like it's under construction, so I'm hoping they bring it back or create something just as great. They also moved the entrance further up the street, and the new self-check-in system makes things way smoother so no more awkward moments while someone looks for your name. As for the workouts, they've got spin, yoga, strength training, and Shred. Shred is like mat Pilates on steroids with free weights, resistance bands, and weighted balls. My favorites are yoga and Shred, both in infrared-heated rooms, so you'll definitely sweat it out. The vibe is on point with cool lighting and upbeat music that keeps you going (even through endless planks). Plus, their waiting area is surprisingly big and has a fun, modern feel. Parking? Super easy. There's free parking in the apartment complex this space is in, and if that's full, street parking is usually close by. Overall, Studio 3 still delivers, even with the changes. Now if only those smoothies would make a comeback.......fingers crossed for summer!
